The house seemed nice in the pictures. When you get there, it's a bit run down. It could definitely use an outside paint job (which is fairly inexpensive & easy to do) because it looked shabbiest in the block. The pool and whirlpool did not look clean so we never went in. The whirlpool is misleading as we thought it was a hot tub when we rented it. It's not. It doesn't heat up. Just bubbles which didn't bother to turn on since we weren't getting in. Both bedrooms are upstairs although one of the two bathrooms is downstairs. So since we had two couples, one couple had to go downstairs to shower etc. Somewhat inconvenient, especially since the upstairs toilet wasnt working correctly the first night so we couldn't use it. All in all, I didn't feel the house was worth what we paid for it unfortunately. With a few changes it could be.

Owner response: Papa's Port is a 2 bedroom(both upstairs) house with an amazing location to the gulf. The house is older and the outside is being painted winter 2013-14. The renters notified me that the upstairs toilet was running the evening upon their arrival and it was repaired the next day. There are 2 full bathrooms, one upstairs (access from the master and hall) and one downstairs. The pool is serviced weekly by an impeccable pool company and the water usually looks wonderful. We were not notified that the pool looked unclean, as that would have been addressed immediately. I did contact the pool company upon reading this review to verify that there had not been any storms or issues and there had not. The picture of the pool can look deceiving, as there is a round sitting area with jets. However, this area is not separate from the pool and is not a hot tub. Unfortunately, a hot tub is not an amenity to the property.
good overall, somewhat disappointed

The Positives: great view, <100 yards to waters edge, great location of Gulf Trace, clean home, plenty of towels The Negatives: poorly equipped (no pot holder, no cleaners, no measuring cup, one dish drying towel, no scubbing pads to scrub pots/pans, no salt/pepper, no griddle for pancakes) , cable went out a couple of times, internet is spotty at best, and the router is in the adjoining unit. They were willing to reset it every couple hours. Looks dumpy from the outside, but inside was a bit better....needs paint! Had to hook up DVD player ourselves, remote didn't work. Lock box holding key to house is very difficult to open and close. We love to cook most meals and usually grill outside a lot, but only grilled once since it was old, charcoal grill. Overall, not sad that we rented here, but would look elsewhere next year. Price was good, but not that much better than nearby homes/condos. Love Grayton Beach and Gulf Trace....met lots of nice people. Still had a great time being outside in beautiful weather!

Owner response: The view and the location are truly fantastic. The kitchen was inventoried in July and apparently some items have gone missing. All items (hand towels, pot holders, measuring cups, scrubbing pads and a griddle) are being replaced as we speak. Unfortunately, on the rare occasion the modem/router has to be reset. However, during this referenced time period the cable company finally verified that there was area issue in service for approximately 24 hours. The wireless internet is normally without any issue. We will be placing separate routers in each unit to ensure that Papa's Port guest can reset if needed. The grill was purchased 2 months ago, but it will be re-evaluated promptly. The whole duplex is scheduled to be painted this winter as the salt air is brutal on the outside.

We had a wonderful experience at at stay at Papa's Port. We actually got stranded for an extra night and the owner was so so nice to allow us to stay for an extra night. We appreciated the kindness we were shown greatly and are thankful. If you want a quiet getaway in a wonderful beach home, then Papa's Port is a great choice.

The owner is very helpful when you have a concern. This unit is very roomy and a great price. It is always clean and has everything you need. I would recommend it to everyone. Our favorite restaurants in Grayton are the Hurricane Oyster Bar and the Broken Egg.

Great vacation spot
Great vacation spot
Papa's Port is a great vacation town home to escape for a relaxing vacation. The view of the beach is wonderful and having a pool is really worth it. The neighborhood is safe & quiet. Our teenagers loved riding bikes around the area. For the price, Papa's Port is a great place to vacation.

So glad I found this rental, loved it and hope to return. The location is ideal for those who prefer a quiet, homey vacation away from the crowds and high-rises yet near anything you’d need. Wonderful, peaceful neighborhood with its own beach and the most beautiful white sand. The house is in a prime spot, the view is stunning – if you can’t rent directly on the beach, this is the next best thing. You can fully see, hear, and smell the ocean from the porches. The duplex is a modest, old-style beachhouse, comfortable and unpretentious. The owners seem to be lovely people who truly care about the house, which has been in the family for years. Apparently they will be renovating over time, and their prices seem to reflect that the house has not been updated like many others around. If price matters to you, it’s hard to find better. I came for the ocean, elegance did not matter at all to me, and I was tremendously happy here, it provided everything I needed to live well. Further notes: Very comfortable king bed in an uplifting, sunny master bedroom. Nice, large flat-screen cable tv with internet access, can connect to your Netflix. HUGE covered parking area below house. You'll love the porches!

We only had a long weekend at the beach and this was the perfect getaway. Although Papa's Port is only a two bedroom house, it is actual very spacious. The kitchen, living room and a full bathroom take up the whole first floor and a set of steps leads you to the 2 bedrooms and a shared bathroom upstairs. My daughter and my son each brought a friend, and there was plenty of room for six of us. Also, there is not a beach house across the street (it must be protected beach area), so the view from the kitchen and decking is fabulous! Some of the wallpaper is starting to peel and the wood on the outdoor decking is getting old, but for the money, it was very neat and clean and organized. Easy, easy access to the beach and the cute Grayton Beach area (Starbucks is on 30A in Grayton). Our teens biked to Seaside each day, and it was a 3-mile bike ride from the house. Enjoyable stay!

This was our 2nd stay in this location. It is a PERFECT place to stay. You can sit and watch the ocean from the covered deck and the access to the ocean is just 1 house away. We will be staying there again.

We had a great time at this property! It's so close to the beach and at night you can ever hear the ocean from the bedroom. We love it. It's an awesome location for our family as we prefer a more secluded location away from the crowds. We LOVE Grayton Beach and plan on coming here again and again. This was our second trip to this location and we'll be back soon: )

About the owner: My husband's family built this home in Santa Rosa Beach years ago and have enjoyed it to the fullest. The beaches are amazing with the white sugar sand and memorable sunsets. Our family spends 2 weeks here every summer and it is the highlight of the year. I know that your family will love it too.
