  It's only one thing to say about the place: PARADISE!!!!!!!!! We (familiy with two kids) stayed there for 11 days, and had the best time of our lives. Hope to come back some time.

  Awesome experience! I cannot say enough good things about this location, the unit or the hosts Ray and Vivienne. I was there for two weeks, and had the most relaxing, fun filled time kiting, surfing and snorkeling right there in Spreckelsville at friendly beach. In the mornings we would walk the beach for a mile finding great shells and beach glass along a stretch that has natural dunes and beautiful tide pools and then snorkel back, taking in the amazing coral heads inhabited by colorful tropical fish, moray eels, octopus and my favorite, the sea turtles!  Then we would make breakfast at the unit, totally ample kitchen, eat it on the deck with it's spectacular view and then get ready take on the day kiting or sailing right there at friendly beach!  What's great is how close everything is from this location, Paia and Kahului, 5 mins away for shopping or dining out and easy access to the other side of the island. Really a great home base and Ray and Vivienne are great hosts, very accommodating and friendly who let you do your own thing and saved us both money and time with their local knowledge and aloha.  I will not stay anywhere else when I come to Maui and highly recommend booking this place to anyone looking for the perfect spot for an active and relaxing stay!   This is the second time we’ve stayed at Ray’s and each time we have had a truly great holiday. The apartment is very clean and has everything you need for self-sufficiency if you don’t want to eat out along with all mod cons in case you wanted to stay in tho with all Maui has to offer this will be unlikely. It’s a great base in general but particularly for the north shore with it’s beach halfway between Kanaha and Sprecks , the lovely town of Paia and Hookipa a few mins away by car. If you windsurf/kite or SUP then the outstanding thing about Friendlybeach is the location – you are a few yards away from camp one ( great location for all levels) and unless you stay in one of the local properties like Ray’s then you aren’t really going to be able to sail here unless you sail upwind from Kanaha or downwind from Sprecks. You can leave your kit at the bottom of the garden and carry it a whole 20yds or so to the water’s edge on the beach - you can be playing in the waves on the reef a few minutes after deciding to go! If you have to share the water with anyone there’s a fair chance it’ll be someone famous and much more talented! The beach is beautiful, clean and most of the time you are likely to have to share it with a couple of people if at all. Ray and Vivienne are great, laidback hosts and if there’s anything else you might require Ray will v likely sort it out for you without any fuss.

  Fantastic week-long stay. We arrived to find the suite impeccably clean, already equipped with a rental crib in the bedroom for our six month old, and there were two cold beverages chilling in the fridge (after 13hrs of flights and transfers, this was heaven). The efficient design gives the suite a very roomy feel and it truly had all the amenities that we needed and more. The most amazing feature of this place: a stone's throw to a wonderful, quiet beach. We noticed the planes in the beginning but then less so as we continued to settle in and the baby slept through all of her naps and the nights without issue. Great place, fantastic hosts. Would definitely stay here again. Thank-you Ray, Vivienne and Sevin!

  If you're even thinking about renting this suite, snatch it up before someone else does!!! My wife and I recently stayed at Ray and Vivienne's suite for 10 days. We've vacationed in Maui many times in the past, but this visit was easily our favorite! The suite was clean and comfortable, and it's impossible to beat the proximity of the beach. We had planned to see more of the island during our stay, but most days ended up lounging in the room or down at the beach reading and drinking piña coladas. We were so relaxed that it was hard to find a reason to leave the house! Ray and Vivienne were the perfect hosts. They were always happy to chat or give us some great insider tips on the island, but also gave us complete privacy when we wanted it. They cooked us dinner on our last night, and we ended up having such a great time that we missed our flight & had to take the next one. A sign of a great trip! Regarding the proximity to the airport... Yes, we did hear planes taking off, but it wasn't the least bit distracting. The noise is pretty sporadic throughout the day, and literally only lasts a few seconds at a time. I think the latest plane we heard was around 10pm & the earliest around 10am. Needless-to-say, we slept like babies. If you're looking for a secluded getaway away from all the tourist traps with access to an essentially private beach (some days we didn't see anyone else on the beach for hours at a time), this is the spot for you! We just got back a couple of weeks ago, and my wife and I are counting the days until we can head back to Ray and Vivienne's again.

  I have made this visit to Maui over and over again, never to be disappointed. As a kitesurfer, there is nowhere I would rather stay than at Ray and Vivienne's house. The house is lovely, with a ton of character, beautiful artwork, not to mention the fantastic hosts. The location is one of the only streets that I can launch my kite right in front of the house and have my own paradise to ride off into the sunset. The room was spacious and clean. Our hosts, Ray and Vivienne were friendly and more than accommodating. The whole family can find something do here. There was great snorkeling, wind sports, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, all just out our front door. In addition, the balcony to our apartment was great for watching the sunsets and kicking back with a beer. I would recommend this location to anyone coming to Maui for a visit.

  We've stayed at Ray and Vivienne's home so many times over the past 12 years, we've actually lost count! We simply wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. The hospitality they offer is is cheerful and welcoming, yet unobtrusive. They are there when you need them and otherwise, you feel like you have the place to yourself. If you need it, they are great at setting you on the right path for hikes, shopping and "ono grindz" (delicious food!). The house is beautiful and the suite is clean, bright and feels like home to us. We wish it was our home!! It's got all the amenities you could possibly need for a fun vacation... plus the wonderful beach, a quiet and relaxed atmosphere and the Aloha spirit our hosts exude every day. We love waking up every morning in this beautiful neighborhood, to the sound of Mynah birds, gentle breezes and the waves on the reef. It's a just quick walk down to the beach for a refreshing morning swim... And that's just the start of the day! It gets better from there. We thoroughly recommend Friendly Beach to anyone who is looking for a true Maui experience, wonderful hosts and a quiet and clean living environment. Aloha!

  The beach is beautiful the amenities are mostly adequate with the exception of the very small fridge and although we didn’t want the air conditioning the small unit in the room would not have cooled very good. I would also suggest replacing all the curtains or at least repairing them. They were torn and dirty. I think it would also be beneficial to have blinds or insulated curtains that can block out the afternoon heat. All that aside I really liked the place itself. Especially the snorkeling right out front. However, the proximity to the airport and the associated jet noise was horrible! Ray told me that the noise was not all that distracting and that it was only from 6AM - 10PM. WRONG! We slept horribly because of the air traffic was constant EVERY DAY ALL NIGHT! Perhaps it was military that are exempt from any curfew but it sucked! The noise at times shook the whole building and was very frightening. Maybe Ray and Vivienne have been there so long that they are accustomed and desensitized to the noise but I am from a big city and I really noticed it. Sorry but that jet noise is very incongruous to the Maui experience we were looking for. I would not recommend this location for that reason alone. BUZZ KILL BIG TIME!

  Owner response: We are deeply saddened by this client's review. But I need to correct several misleading statements. The ac units are the correct size for both rooms and works perfectly. Why did the guest not try it rather than say she "thinks" it would be inadequate. The curtains in the bedroom are a dark thick fabric and in the living room are of a more transparent type to allow the light and breeze to enter the space. The LR consists of 6 panels. It seems that some panels got damaged by catching on a door latch. At the same time, due to some heavy rain and wind they must have rubbed against a fly screen and become grubby. The suite is always spotlessly clean! Just like my Mom would want! The winds blow here almost year round and most guests are happy having the large screen doors open to allow the cooling breezes to blow through the suite. Each room has a fully functioning air conditioner and large ceiling fan for those who need some extra cooling. Insulated drapes are provided for the bedroom and for the living room for those who need them. Guests are informed of this on arrival. Had this reviewer let us know of these issues we could have dealt with it in minutes. The fridge is 10 cuft, perfect for the general room size but a FULL SIZE 25 cuft fridge freezer is also provided for guests use under the house. There is enough fridge space to take care of a family of 6 for a month!!! Why no mention of this fact? Planes DO NOT fly all night!!!! Or all day in the accepted sense of the phrase. I will instead quote another review who PERFECTLY summed up this situation. " yes it's close to the airport and you do hear planes (take off), but as they fly out in some kind of a scedule you hear 3 or 4 departures within half an hour and then NOTHING for hours. It didnt bother me as I did not hear them between 11pm and 10 am or so." The sound lasts for between 5 and 15 seconds each time. A situation common in varying degrees to most N.Shore rentals. During their 1 week stay the reviewer and her partner enjoyed and responded to our aloha and hospitality. They joined us and our friends for drinks on July 4th and had their large family over for several visits. They constantly expressed their happiness with the suite, home and location. In fact Vivienne jokingly said one day..."it looks like your family are moving in" to which the guest responded..."no they are not..but we might!" On their departure we hugged warmly.   We have been visiting Maui since the mid 80s and have stayed at several different places.Friendly Beach is by far the best we have stayed at. The home is beautiful. The suite is charming, clean and fully equipped with everything you could need.{we love all of Ray's art work decorating the walls too} The ocean views from every room are stunning. The home is located on a very private and peaceful road.The owners are very hospitable and helpful, pointing out the best {some secret} sight seeing spots,shops, restaurants etc. We are not windsurfers but we swim in the warm waters every day. We have now been back 5 times and hopefully will continue to do so for many years to come.This is Maui at its best. Highly recommended to all.
