Great Barrington cottage description
The Studio "Cottage" has an attached porch which is just screened in, but away from the wind, and built around a large tree, which in summer gives beautiful shade. The room of the cottage has all the major amenities, and is fancifully decorated in the round room of the bathroom. There is a shower, but no tub-it is a freestanding, round shower. In front of the cottage is a shared brick patio, with grill and large table and lounging chairs. There is a large closet (shared w/ owner) where bikes, or other equipment can be kept.
It is completely fenced in and in the summer, the yard, front and back, is redolent with the scent of many flowers and herbs. There is also a vegetable garden, which is free to pick from.

- This charming studio has a round walled bathroom, and a tall standing shower, and wildly decorated mirror in there, and there is also a large screened-in porch on the back- perfect for keeping the skis in winter, and sleeping outside in summer. It is near to the children's playground-so all you hear is laughter and wild screaming as they play! The cottage is simple to care for- and a great base for action in the Berkshires-- 15 minutes to Butternut ski area, 15 minutes to Lenox, MA- Shakespeare and Co.,and shopping-eating-playing-though the 10 minutes to Great Barrington- is even better-with the greatest number of restaurants and immense variety of food styles, plus we have a movie theatre (3 shows) and a revived showplace. We are also 10 minutes from Chesterwood Museum and the Norman Rockwell Museum-also a wonderful place to explore....moreless

Year Purchased: 1998
About: I am Ruth Adams Bronz, originally a Texan, but due to various colleges that I attended in the Northeast, I fell in love with New York and the Berkshires. I settled in Housatonic in 1972, and created an American Regional cooking restaurant in West Stockbridge, MA (4 years) and later took it to New York City (8 years). I then wrote 2 cookbooks with many true American ethnic and regional recipes. I also have a third book about the Gulf Coast cooking, written before the Gulf Coast disaster, and unfortunately, the majority of the restaurants I visited are literally -blown away. I will publish it as evidence of the quality of the foods in the South--a memorial --but hopefully will be part of a revival! I rebuilt the three houses on the property gradually over the last 20+ years, and I live in the one house in the middle, decorated with my favorite sunflowers on the side of the house. I love returning to New York, but I also love the quiet solitude of the Berkshires, and its wild changes of weather! My assistant Jennie and I are also available for catering, as we are both chefs (of some distinction).
Why Great Barrington:
I was helped by Alice Brock's mother who was a realtor (Alice's Restaurant)-- and I felt comfortable about the ease of reaching major cities and amazing beauty of the region and the great proliferation of the arts.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The cottage with its screened porch, is a little haven with a little more. It is wildly decorated in the round bathroom and scattered throughout the room, is many of the artistic touches that I designed. Everyone who has stayed at the studio has found a peaceful, and enjoyable time in this special space--which though in the middle of a village ( and right next to a children's playground) it is isolated and seems to exist on its own. The cottage is not far from Butternut or Catamount or Jiminy Peaks---all great ski areas. In the summer there is great swimming 'holes', hiking areas, and wonderfully inventive restaurants and shops, from clothing to antiques and auctions, and Tanglewood Music Center is about 15 minutes away.
