Sitting close to the top of Bear Cove Mountain, our guests enjoy our wonderful, like new, very private luxury mountain home...and its great location...in the very heart of the Smoky Mountain activities!!! Special features include a breathtaking view of the Smokies from most rooms including the screened porch and deck, a large deluxe hot tub on the screened porch (where you're safe from all the outside critters), a log burning fireplace, a beautiful cathedral ceiling in the Great Room, and an outdoor fire pit for those wonderful campfires.
In addition to the hot tub, the large, comfortable, screened porch has rockers, a teakwood table and chairs and even a comfortable daybed for those naps after hiking. The deck is great for relaxing with your loved one on the swing and enjoying the spectacular short and long range views, grilling out and dining on the umbrella table or rocking and enjoying the wonderful feeling that comes with being in the mountains.
But...the master loft bedroom, with it's queen feather 4-poster bed, and its incredible view...will make your Retreat in the Sky and mountain experience a vacation you won't forget!!!
Retreat is centrally located for ALL of the Smoky Mountain activities!! We offer a great location. Just minutes to Bryson City, the Gateway to the Smokies... the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad... Fontana Lake, a beautiful mountain lake where you can swim, fish, and rent a pontoon boat for half or the entire day... the Nantahala Outdoor Center for whitewater rafting, ziplining, horseback riding, biking, and fun restaurants... Cherokee, you can try your luck at Harrah's Casino... Deep Creek for tubing, hiking, and picnics...the Smoky Mountain Country Club which is a beautiful mountain course and open to the public....the Blue Ridge Parkway...where is there a more beautiful drive??? And maybe best of all... Ingles Supermarket is only five minutes away.

- WiFi (Wireless Internet) : Wireless Internet is available at the Bryson City library, Cork and Bean, Mountain Perks and at several other locations in town as well. In fact, all of Everett Street has WiFi.

- What makes Retreat in the Sky so special?? Maybe it's that the road in Bear Cove is mostly paved and you don't need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to reach it, or maybe it's that it's so convenient, only a few minutes to Ingles to pick up those limes you forgot, then maybe it's because of the privacy, it sits up high on the mountain all by itself, you would never have to see or listen to any other vacationers, but then maybe it's the view, whether you're inside or out, the view is everywhere and it's beautiful, could be the hot tub; most hot tubs are outside, yours would be inside the screened porch, you could use it rain or shine... maybe it's the comfort, feather beds, daybed for naps, pillows everywhere, maybe that's it, maybe it's having a deck AND screened porch, sometimes you could even want privacy from each other, or even maybe the outside woodburning firepit for marshmallows and fun. We love it all and we think you will too!

- The most exciting new activity has to be ziplining....our guests just rave about how much fun it is...take a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway... it is unforgettable...pack a picnic lunch (picnic pack for two at Retreat for guests use) and mountain gaze, and you must go to Highlands and Cashiers (great shopping and restaurants) and visit all of the waterfalls in the area, the Biltmore Estate in Asheville is only one hour away...you should plan to spend the entire day as there is so much to see, go for a hike at the Joyce Kilmer forest or Deep Creek, visit Dollywood and stop at all the outlets on the way, Win some $$ to take home at Harrahs Casino in Cherokee and enjoy a great dinner there as well. You will NEVER run out of things to do. Or, never leave, sit on the deck at Retreat in the Sky and enjoy the privacy, the wonderful view and each other!

Why the Owner Chose Bryson City
We fell in love with Bryson City the first time we visited. It is quaint, friendly and surrounded by beautiful mountains. We found the perfect spot to build our second home. It's close to the top of Bear Cove Mountain in the Smokies. Our view is outstanding. Retreat has a privacy that is hard to describe. Our first home is three hours away and eleven years later, with our car packed with all our stuff, heading for Bryson City and our Retreat in the Sky, we're still excited.... after all these years, we still can't wait to get there.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
Sitting on the swing on our deck...enjoying the beautiful view...is the ultimate in relaxation. Retreat in the Sky can only be reached by driving up the private road and then you drive up some more on our paved driveway. We are not on the road so no one can see us or drive by us. So you see, we also have the ultimate in privacy. We not only have a great deck filled with flowers and a beautiful landscaped setting, we also have several bird feeders and have counted over twenty five different varieties of birds that come to visit. We even supply the bird seed. We're only five minutes from Ingles Supermarket and only ten minutes from just about everywhere else.

Thank you so much for sharing your mountain home with us. The cabin had everything you could possibly need and it was as comfortable as being in our own home. The pictures do not come close to capturing the complexity of the view ... we never tired of it. It was a wonderful place to celebrate our 12th anniversary. Can't wait to visit again. PS - Sandy was a joy to deal with and everything went perfectly smooth.

This is the most fabulous place in the world to relax, and enjoy life. The beauty is breath taking, the view is unimaginable , to wake up to in the morning. The house and grounds are just awesome, cannot say enough for the landscape. Thank you for time well spent in the mountains, hope to come back soon.

It's a shame that internet pictures can't come close to describing the awesome experience of "Retreat In The Sky". The views are priceless and the home is beautiful, cozy, warm, and artfully decorated. What a great "couples retreat"! We felt at home minutes after walking in. And, when we did decide to travel back down the mountain, Bryson City and the surrounding areas offered countless activities, excellent restaurants, and more adventures. We would certainly recommend this beautiful "retreat" for anyone wanting to experience a truly lovely setting in the N.C. Mountains. We will certainly return if the opportunity arises. After years of looking at your site on the internet, we have finally made it here! Our days have been filled by exploring this beautiful area --- from Asheville to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, from Cades Cove to Highlands, and to Jimmy Mac's --- but some of our best memories have come from experiencing the immediate pleasures of mountain dining at your cabin --- breakfast on the deck with hummingbirds wizzing past, lazy afternoons reading on the screened porch, ceiling fans whirring. Dusky evenings swinging on the porch swing with the sounds of birds hidden from view. Nights in the hot tub (yes, we did finally discover this pleasure!) looking at dusk setting in. Thank you for making us feel like your house guests and sharing your very special home with us.

The Retreat far exceeded our expectations. The location at the center of the Smoky Mountains, Nantahala and Cherokee Forest is superlative. The view is spectacular. Each day is different. We anticipate views in the future. We plan to stay here each time we visit this wonderful corner of North Carolina. I'm going to recommend the Retreat to my family too. The accommodations and provisions here are unprecedented. What a gorgeous spot!

Sandy and Ty, Just wanted to tell you once again how much we enjoyed our stay at "Retreat". The leaves were in full color; a fantastic sight. We had breakfast at Everett Street Diner two mornings. What a treat! Walked off all the calories on the Deep Creek and Road to Nowhere trails. The best part of the day was sitting on the deck or porch enjoying the scenery, even when it rained. We're so glad you're going to continue sharing this jewel.

We had a wonderful stay at "Retreat In The Sky" but it was all too short. The cabin is extremely secluded and has a very cozy, "homey" feel. We spent most days trekking about and came home in the evenings to the comfort of the retreat to recharge for the next day's adventure. On the way home we talked about how we should have just taken a day to lounge around the cabin and do nothing but relax. I guess there was just too much to do in the area! Bryson City is a great location because it is central to so many good attractions. We drove the Tail Of The Dragon through Deals Gap into Tennessee and circled back on the Cherohala Skyway. If you are a motorcycle or car buff this is a wonderful drive that is full of beautiful scenery and very twisty roads. It gets rather crowded on the weekends so I would suggest you go during the middle of the week like we did. I actually enjoyed it a lot more than the Blue Ridge Parkway. One day we visited Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest and hiked to the giant Poplar trees. The trails had suffered some damage from previous storms so part of the trail was closed but it was still worth the trip. We also spent some time in Franklin and Waynesville checking out all the shops. Our only regret is that we did not have long enough to explore eveything as fully as we wanted. This place is incredible! These pictures do not do it justice! We honeymooned here and it was the perfect choice! Waking up surrounded with mountains is amazing! We definetly recommend this place to anyone who loves the beautiful landscape that God made for us to enjoy!
