  My friend and I recently stayed here to look at homes and property. We found this home to be so special in every way and detail we had a hard time leaving it for our scheduled appointments. The variety of birds were amazing. We woke every morning to their meloudious songs. Striking red cardinals and tiny green birds combed the bushes and trees for food directly in front of the lanai table. The sound of our own running stream southed our sences. The stream empitied into the pond outside my bedroom. The sheets and bed linnen were of the highest quality and made you feel like a queen. I have never slept better or peaceful. Everywhere you look you feel the love and care of the creation of this home. I highly reccomend a stay here for anyone who is looking for the ideal vacation home with everything. There is a lovely beach 15 minuets away where anyone can feel safe to swim. This is the best of Hawaii.

  This truly is a vacation rental to treasure. It is secluded, beautiful, and so, so tranquil. The downstairs bedroom with the lotus pond just outside was the most peaceful place to sleep - we kept the doors and windows open and loved hearing the birds and frogs (even the roosters!). There is an outdoor shower and soaking tub that are both lovely - we got very used to taking showers outside and loved it! It's very private. The kitchen is remarkable and so well stocked - you don't want for anything. We are now staying at a rental on Kauai, and are wishing that we had scheduled our trip so that the stay on the Big Island was second, because this rental makes everything else seem not so nice! Kerstin and Atulyo are lovely hosts - available to answer questions but leave you alone as well. We will most definitely be back here - already talking about a 2015 vacation and we'll certainly plan on staying here!

  When my friend Connie and I entered the house, all we could say was "WOW"! This house is beautiful, inside and out! We all enjoyed the lanai, having coffee, hot chocolate and breakfast outside every day. The location was perfect, close to town yet entirely private. My husband and I won the coin toss and got the downstairs suite with the outdoor shower! We loved it!! The caretaker was close by and was available to take care of our every need. We are already making plans to return! Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful home!!

  This house was wonderful. The photo's do not do it justice. Everything about was top of the line. The grounds are immaculate with privacy and relaxation in mind.The owners were a pleasure to deal with. We plan on coming back. Thank you Kerstin for a wonderful stay. Boise Idaho

  You know how sometimes the pictures are far better than the actual place...well not so in this case. The cottage is amazing, very large, clean and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed cooking in the large kitchen and lounging on the lani. I highly recommend staying at either one of the Exter rentals. Their attention to detail is outstanding as is their organization and impecable communication with coordinating your stay. We can't wait to go back next year!" - Nipomo CA

  Everything the pictures promise and more. Spacious, private setting, clean, great kitchen and a wonderful wrap around porch with a large grill. The perfect setting to just get away from the daily grind, read a book and think. The master suite with outdoor private showers and tub creates a truly tropical experience especially with the cascading waterfall and lilly pond! Frankly, it made it hard to come home to an ordinary bath. Very romantic. We'll be back.

  Walking into the property for the first time, my husband and I couldn't believe our luck. We felt like we had found our own private Hawaiian paradise. The garden is tranquil, colorful and inviting. The interior is stunning, well equipped and well designed. The highlight of the property is probably the lanai overlooking the garden which we used throughout the day and for dining. We thought Hawi was a fun slice of old Hawaii with some good restaurants and even a great wine store. We do a lot of hiking and found the house to be an excellent base for exploring the island. The most telling recommendation I can give is that we were already planning our return before boarding the plane home.

  In my view, this home embodies the true essence of what HomeAway is meant to be...a vacation hideaway that is like a home away from home. My three daughters (ages 15, 13 and 11) and I stayed here for 8 nights. I truly cannot imagine a better experience. For those of you that truly love Hawai'i and all that it offers (but are tired of the tourist scene), this is for you! If you have never been to Hawi, it is pretty much as billed - a tiny town on the far north Kohala coast off the beaten path - but such a refreshing change from the crowds and big hotels that have come to typify the Hawai'i experience. What you see is what you get...and then some. I'm not sure that the pictures and description for beautiful pretty home do it justice. It is simply perfect.

  Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

  This home is even more beautiful and exquisite than the pictures show. The craftsmanship and materials is truly extraordinary. I feel like we are in a piece of art. The kitchen is stocked with all the very best accoutrements known to humankind. The furniture is lovely and very comfortable. In short I can't think of anything I would change. The location is quiet, private, and landscaped beautifully. The outdoor shower and tub is lovely. Everything is immaculate. Hawi is a cute little town. We liked the Bamboo restaurant. There are so many birds and butterflies around the house. We watched numerous humpback whales at Kapaa Park, 6 miles from Hawi. We do not want to leave.

  This is a stunningly beautiful home in a quiet setting. It was clean, comfortable, and the kitchen was fully-equipped. Of the three houses we've rented during vacations to Hawaii, this was definitely the best. The home is a showcase design with extraordinary craftsmanship and beautiful woodworking. We also enjoyed the regular visits from "Kizzie" the dog.

Cancellation policy:

Rental Rules CHECK-IN TIME is AFTER 3 P.M. HST AND CHECKOUT is 11 A.M. HST. NO Early Check-in or late checkout unless arranged with owner or representative of owner prior to arrival. This is a NON SMOKING unit. DAMAGE/RESERVATION DEPOSIT - A reservation deposit of $500.00 is required. For monthly bookings the deposit is $ 1000.00. This must be received within ten (10) days of booking the reservation. A $200.00 security/damage deposit is to be submitted with second installment of your payment. The deposit is NOT applied toward rent; however, it is fully refundable in cash on the day of departure, provided the following provisions are met. . No damage is done to unit or its contents, beyond normal wear and tear. • All soiled dishes are placed in the dishwasher and cleaned. • All keys are left with owner/ rental manager and unit is left locked. • All charges accrued during the stay are paid prior to departure. • No linens are lost or damaged. • NO early check-in or late checkout unless arranged prior to arrival. • The renter is not evicted by the owner (or representative of the owner) or the local law enforcement PAYMENT – An advance payment equal to $ 500.00 ($1000.00 for monthly rentals) is required to confirm reservation. The advance payment will be applied toward the rent. Please make payments via personal checks payable to: Kerstin Exter. The advance payment is not a damage deposit. The BALANCE OF RENT is due thirty (30) days before your arrival date, 60 days prior for monthly or longer rentals. CANCELLATIONS If you wish to cancel and do so 30 days (60days for monthly rentals) or more before you arrive, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel closer than 30 (60) days, you will forfeit your monies paid unless I can re-rent the booked time. Early departure does not warrant any refund of rent. MONTHLY RESERVATION CANCELLATIONS – Monthly renters must cancel sixty (60) prior to check-in. Monthly renters who make a change that results in a shortened stay must be made at least thirty ( 30) days prior to check-in. MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY – The maximum number of guests is limited to four (4) persons. MINIMUM STAY – This property requires a five (5) night minimum stay. If a rental is taken for less than five days, the guest will be charged the five-night rate. INCLUSIVE FEES – Rates include a one-time linen & towel setup. NO DAILY HOUSEKEEPING SERVICE – While linens and bath towels are included in the unit, daily maid service is not included in the rental rate. However, there is a washer and dryer as well as cleaning supplies and equipment in the house for your own use. We do not permit bath towels or linens to be taken from the unit, but we provide extra beach towels for your use. We encourage you to call us to set up a weekly or bi-weekly cleaning service with us, hourly charge for cleaning is $ 25.00 per hour. RATE CHANGES – Rates subject to change without notice. FALSIFIED RESERVATIONS – Any reservation obtained under false pretense will be subject to forfeiture of advance payment, deposit and/or rental money, and the party will not be permitted to check in. WRITTEN EXCEPTIONS – Any exceptions to the above mentioned policies must be approved in writing in advance. TRAVEL INSURANCE – We highly recommend all guests purchase travel insurance. All of the units are privately owned; the owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. The Homeowners are not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest.
