Fine Fishin! Yellowstone Riverfront, 5 Miles to Livingston
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Fifteen steps from the Yellowstone River rests our classy western cabin, the Calamity Jane, on 5 garden acres. The park like setting has perennial gardens, mature trees, rocky beach, lots of birds and wildlife. We are just downstream from the DePuy Armstrong Spring Creek and our fishing hole on site has been admired by many!
We are just 5 miles from historic downtown Livingston and many restaurants, theaters, antique shops
and art galleries. Bozeman is 25 miles to the west and Billings 110 miles to the east. Yellowstone National Park's north entrance, Gardner/Mammoth is 50 miles to the south.
Access is easy, 3.6 miles from I-90 and 100 yards from Highway 89 south, yet we are still secluded by careful planting and surround river sound! Views of the Yellowstone River, Absaroka Mountains and the canyon are super! Fishing is good!
The Calamity Jane is located on five park like acres with one additional cabin, a sheepherders wagon and one home. We have frequent wildlife and bird visitors. The sounds of the river and the bright star nights are soothing to many of our guests. Excellent views of the Absaroka Mountains and the Yellowstone Canyon abound.
Spangler's sheepherders wagon is used as an overflow bedroom for the adventurous. The wagon is an antique from the Dillon area sitting about 30 steps from the cabin. It has one double futon and a lot of fun cabinets.
Details: The Calamity Jane was carefully designed and appointed with a full kitchen, bath with shower no tub and a comfy queen bed. Fine, ironed bed linens and towels provided. A Weber gas grille waits on the porch with a great river and mountain view The cabin is stocked with breakfast materials; fresh farm eggs, bread, butter, milk, coffee, tea, 1/2 and 1/2 and fresh fruit and cereals. The cabin is very, very clean and meticulously maintained as are the grounds. Yard art, lounging areas, and beautiful flowers surround!

A quite retreat from a fast paced world. My wife and I have come several times, and without fail we leave relaxed and refreshed. The breakfast ingredients, flowers, and all the small touches make each visit memorable. The owners are friendly, and very helpful. We've managed to stay in each of the four seasons, each offering a uniquely special experience. We're always pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoy our stays. Without a double, if you stay once, you'll find yourself coming back again and again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The grounds were beautiful! We loved the deck over the water watching the fishing and familly boats go by and enjoyed the wonderful views! The studio was very cute and decorated in a tasteful theme of Calamity Jane. The studio was smaller than we expected and it would have been perfect for one person but it was cramped for two. The table next to the bed was so close to the bed two people could not pass at the same time. Beware that the bath is very small and the shower is almost unusable. We are not big people but the turning and bending for shaving is nearly impossible. I am only 5'3, 130 lbs. and had to get in and out to shave and rinse. I did like the fact that it was well stocked in the small kitchen. I have never given a negative review but feel you need to understand the size of this studio. Perhaps the other building on the property would be better if you have more than one person.Recommended for: Sightseeing.

Thank you for sharing this little bit of paradise with us! We found the cabin to be wonderfully cozy and well supplied. Bernie caught the biggest fish of the trip right outside the door! We wish you well and hope to return.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

A perfect combination of convenience and complete solitude. Left the window open at night to hear the river and waking up to the same sound in the morning. We had a great visit only to end much too soon. Last note - on the morning of our departure I hadn't fished in the back yard, so I went to the deck and looked out, much to my surprise there were two large browns popping up to flies! Must be a sign - we have to come back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Thank you so much for having, making, creating this wonderful space/place. It is truly beautiful and dances with light and sound of the Yellowstone River. My 15 year old son is hard to impress and has experienced many outdoor wilderness outings, but even he is amazed at the beauty and solitude.Did you find this review helpful? It's a cozy cabin located right in front of Yellowstone river. It would be a best site for fishing if staying in the right season.(when the river is low!) The owner was very helpful and the cabin was very clean and well-equipped. We really enjoyed the breath-taking scenery of the mountains.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

The past four summers, my sister and I have enjoyed our stay in the Calamity Jane cabin with all its charm and comfort. The daily personal touches - flower, fruit, breads and more - show what gracious hosts Dee Dee and Ursula are. We have enjoyed magnificent views, the sounds of the Yellowstone River day and night, along with such tranquility and peace - which makes Yellowstone River Cabins paradise in "Paradise Valley."Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

About the owner: Dee Dee Van Zyl is a professional actress from the west coast. She taught acting at Montana State University and enjoys directing and acting in Livingston and Bozeman. Initially this property was a bed and breakfast. Dee Dee loved cooking elaborate breakfasts and still does occasionally!
Why the Owner Chose Livingston:
We were dazzled by the close proximity to the river. The realtor then told me about the little brown bear that had been coming by to get a drink in the river. Now that we have been here for 16 years we
know that we do usually have a few bear visits in the fall when our chokecherries and apples get ripe. We have had many eagles(bald and golden), white pelicans, osprey, mountain lion, bunnies, badger, beaver, deer and otters. There is quite a variety of fish as well!
