Boothbay Harbor cottage description
Sweethaven Cottage is an adorable 1950s cottage in the town of Boothbay Harbor, ideally located for exploring and enjoying all that mid-coast Maine has to offer. We (the owners) bought Sweethaven in 2010 and have done extensive renovations, while maintaining its unique 1950s character, to make it a welcoming and bright haven in the most most picture perfect seaside town in Maine. The house is perched at the top of a dead end street in town, giving you privacy and quiet while only a 5-minute walk to the amenities of the harbor.
The kitchen sports freshly painted, original beech 1950s cabinets filled with new dishes, pots and pans and all the things you'll need for cooking a meal. There is a small dining nook with four reproduction diner chairs. In the living room there is a 37 inch flat screen TV with cable and DVD player, an retro AM/FM radio for morning news, a new large and comfy 3-person sofa and a 2-person love seat. A large picture window looks over the woods and ledge behind the house. The sun porch-- dubbed the 'treehouse' by satisfied customers-- is drenched with sunshine year round, and also boasts some of the best Maine coastal breezes during those hot summer days. On it there is a daybed for occasional sleepovers, two arm chairs and a small desk and chair. Outside there is a slate patio with table and chairs for 4 and there is a small deck with two chairs.
The bedrooms are painted in ice cream sherbet colors, with Laura Ashley quilts and brand new pillow top beds. The queen room has a closet and a dresser. The twin room at the front of the house has a closet and a dresser. The bathroom offers original 1950s pink bathtub (with a shower), toilet and sink. The washer and drier are located in the attached garage.
Cellphone coverage in Boothbay Harbor is spotty - Verizon works well, others do not. There is wireless internet connectivity at the house for your convenience.
Boothbay Harbor is a working fishing village with a vibrant summer community. There are numerous restaurants ranging from gourmet to traditional coastal deep-fried seafood feasts. Authentic lobster shacks abound up and down the coast where you can order steamed lobsters, clams and other Maine delicacies and eat them with a bib while gazing at the ocean. Other activities in Boothbay Harbor include whale watching trips, island clambake excursions, and deep sea fishing. Boothbay Harbor is charm personified and is located next to two of the other most gorgeous Maine coastal communities - Wiscasset and Damariscotta. Fall foliage in the area is spectacular!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Sweethaven! The house is very welcoming and provided all that it promised. The sunroom is wonderful, offering a cozy feel as well as a fantastic view. The proximity of the house to the shops is great! We have previously vacationed in other areas of Maine and have never before found a house that provided both the privacy we look for and the easy access to the town. Lindsey is extremely responsive and accommodating. So easy to work with!! This was truly a "home away from home" and a great place to vacation! I would absolutely recommend Sweethaven Cottage to anyone looking for a comfortable vacation home from which to take in all that Boothbay Harbor has to offer.

We rent a different house in different parts of Maine every summer. This was by far the nicest! So welcoming, clean and comfortable. The beds were hotel grade with wonderful pillows and linens (very rare in rentals). We really enjoyed the enclosed sun room with the daybed. It was bright and comfortable. We were able to eat outside and enjoy a beautiful view of the woods. The house is on a dead-end street which allowed our toddlers free range to run outside. The walk to town is 2 minutes and all of our restaurant experiences were wonderful as well. Lindsey left a binder with all the best restaurants and the various attractions for adults and children. Book this house! You won't be disappointed!

We have been calling Sweethaven Cottage HOME for the past week. The sun porch is so pleasant. We really enjoyed being able to walk into town in six minutes. Everything was clean and decorated so nice. We would definitely rent this again when we come back to Boothbay!

This place was great. I was taken back to my little CT childhood home growing up in the 50"s....but with today's conveniences. It was super clean, cute, comfy and had everything we needed .....including peace and quiet and good Maine seafood nearby. The wonderful sun porch with it's adjoining patio, all surrounded only by trees, was my perfect reading oasis. Also great be be able to walk to town (tho the short walk up the street was very steep so those with walking difficulties could find it tough. However, you can easily leave car at base of the hill and still enjoy the pleasant walk to harbor, restaurants, shopping etc.). Working with Melanie was a total pleasure...efficient and thorough. I would surely recommend a stay at Sweethaven Cottage!

Charming Boothbay Harbor Cottage
Charming Boothbay Harbor Cottage
Sweethaven is a beautifully decorated cottage in a quiet location within walking distance to downtown Boothbay Harbor, and just a five-minute drive to the grocery store, drug store and other other essential shopping. My husband and I have busy jobs and our stay was very relaxing -- just what we needed. My family especially loved the three-season porch; we spent every evening out there reading and talking. Our 13-year-old appreciated having her own room, and got good use out of the digital cable TV. Having the washer/dryer was great, especially when it rained one day and our jackets and clothes were soaked. The DVDs provided were a nice touch too. We watched a couple of movies over the course of the week. As a courtesy, try to remember to replace the laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, dishwashing liquid, etc., if you use it all up. The people before us didn't do this and we ended up replacing all of it -- which was fine really because we used it. Essentials like salt and pepper, sugar, butter, paper towels and some condiments are provided in the kitchen. There's also a coffee maker, microwave and electric kettle. We'd recommended this place for a romantic couples getaway or for a small family like ours. It's cheaper than a week's stay in a hotel downtown -- and much nicer!

Adorable is right!!

The pictures give a representation, but really do not do this cottage justice! The meticulous attention during the renovation is very evident everywhere you look. Leave you car parked here as the location is close enough to the harbor to be a pleasant walk and far enough to be apart from it when you wish. Its location on the hill catches a wonderful breeze and the dead-end location means it's quiet with no traffic. The owner was very easy to deal with and addressed all of my questions very quickly - and as a first time VRBO user there were many. The kitchen is small, but adequate for the 4 of us preparing simple meals. Although the table in the eating area was tight, we ate more often on the sun porch, which made us feel like we were in a tree house. There is no internet connection at the house, but you can pick it up in town. Boothbay has many, many wonderful places to eat. In particular you should try the lobster risotto and ravioli dishes at Ports of Italy. Wonderfully executed. Lobster Dock & McSeagulls were also good and for a very different - but delicious - change, go to Bet's for a fish sandwich and fries. Her hours are short and fish and chips are about all she has, but it is HUGE and really good. Atlantic Edge is good for take away lobster. We found Schooner Eastwind is good for a windjammer cruise and the guided harbor kayak trip is worth doing as well. Visit the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath if you like old wooden sailing ships. For an enjoyable visit to a BIG sandy beach, plan a day at Pompam Beach State Park. Although this was our first time staying here (we vacationed near Augusta for many years), it will certainly not be our last!! Given the location and property amenities, it was an excellent value. I think if you stay here, you will feel the same way.

Sweethaven is perfectly described. The cottage is comfortable, well-appointed and is situated at the end of a road which makes for a quiet retreat. It has been beautfully restored and equipped, very clean and bright, with a charming sun room. I am happy to recommend this location to anyone.

Wonderfully cozy cottage
Wonderfully cozy cottage
The owners have gone out of their way to create a bright and cheerful space for a stay in beautiful Boothbay Harbor. Loved its quiet location at the end of a dead-end street and yet in five to seven minutes walk, you are in the center of the town. Beds were very comfortable, and the furnishings up-to-date and tastefully chosen. The kitchen was well appointed although the small eating area could be a problem for more than four people. Exceptional value for a week's stay in such a popular spot on the Maine coast.
