Treehouse Oceanside Studio, the Perfect Spot for Two!
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Four generations of the island-based Black family have owned and loved this special oasis by the sea, presided over by the oldest and largest banyan tree in Puako. A well-received addition to the beloved Beach Banyan compound, the Treehouse is a cheery upstairs studio cottage seemingly slung between the graceful banyan branches. Looking out to a mesmerizing scene of ancient lava rocks and ocean waves, the Treehouse provides a unique blend of timeless island lifestyle and modern-day creature comforts. It’s a perfect hideaway for couples looking for a dreamy oceanside retreat. Access to the ocean is next door at the public path rather than through the yard of the larger Beach Banyan on property, and easy half-minute walk.

We gave a gift to our son and daughter-in-law of a week in the Treehouse. It was such a beautiful experience for them. The studio was clean and bug free and decorated in a perfect contemporary Hawaiian style. All the amenities that one needed were there. They loved it and were most thankful to have a gift of a second honeymoon after 20 years of marriage. They will be back, I am certain of it.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

I miss this place so much! We are already making plans to come back. The snorkeling is amazing with turtles every day. I also saw a bat ray and a spotted eagle ray this year! Spinner dolphins came by one day. We spent so much time on the lanai just reading, eating, and lounging with the constant breeze and sounds of the wind and ocean to soothe us. The hospitality of Robbie, Mary, and their friend Holly was unmatched.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

For two former long-time residents of Oahu, having rented all kinds of accommodations on every island in the chain, our first time in Puako exceeded all our expectations. This small community is totally residential, no hotel development, very quiet, relaxed, with lots of things to do and see on the Big Island, and a good selection of better than average restaurants nearby within 10-25 minutes driving time. Year round there is very little rain on the N. Kohala Coast, with great swimming and snorkelling at nearby "Locals" beach. For your basics Puako has a friendly, well-supplied General Store. For two octogenarians, the Treehouse worked perfectly for us, and the steps up to it were a piece of cake. Unit had everything we needed: comfortable King bed, ample closet/storage areas, comfortable area for our meals and nightly domino games, all necessary kitchen equipment, shared washer/dryer downstairs, TV, CD, Wi-Fi. Unit was spotless when we arrived, and overall well--maintained. Rental agent, Two Papayas LLC, very friendly and full of local info. We can highly recommend the Treehouse for couples of any age, and we shall be back!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The Treehouse is clean and well maintained. The bed is comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with good utensils, sharp knives and good pots and pans, cleaning supplies, etc. The booking agents, Mary and Robbie of 2 Papayas are extremely helpful. They even arrange to have your kitchen stocked with the foods you want prior to your arrival. The location is great; just steps from the beach. Puako's shoreline is largely a shallow rock ledge with lots of tide pools - which are a favorite hangout for turtles. One of the best features of the unit is a guide book put together by Mary Fox listing numerous places to eat, shop, and play; places that do not appear in commercial guide books. Her personal comments let you know that she has been to every place she recommends. Follow her advice - she has excellent taste; be sure to get chicken or ribs from the houli-houli boys as she recommends! We would recommend the Treehouse to any couple. We recommend using Mary Fox and 2 Papayas to anyone looking for accommodations in or near Puako; we will be doing so again in the futureRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the treehouse in early February and we were DELIGHTED with this rental. The unit was just as described and pictured, perfect for 2 people. The place was immaculate, and had everything we needed, and then some. It was great that they provided beach chairs, coolers, and boogie boards so we didn't have to buy or rent those. We saw turtles and whales every day, and spotted a pod of dolphins one morning. We even met the owner of the property one day, and it was so nice chatting with him, hearing the history of the property. While the other unit on the property was rented, we used the path at the end of the yard to access the beach, which was so convenient. The property managers checked in upon our arrival and made sure we had coffee and some breakfast goodies to enjoy our first morning on vacation. That was SO helpful as our flight was delayed and we arrived quite late, too late to stop at a grocery store on our way in. Restaurants are a short drive away, Cafe Pesto and Roy's are always favorites of mine, and didn't disappoint! If you are a resort/condo person, this is not the place for you. But if you delight in the idea of total privacy, no elevators, easy beach access, and not running into the same loud tourists day in and day out, rent here! I've done the resort thing in the past-once. For the last 7 vacations to Hawaii, I've been renting private units like these, and it's 100 times better, in MY opinion. Not to mention, Hawaii can be pricey, so saving a few dollars here and there on meals lets me spend my money on activities instead. Robbie and Mary took care of all my requests via email before our arrival, and everything was in order when we got there. I can't wait for our next vacation to the Big Island. As sad as I am to leave, I always know I will be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a great experience at the Treehouse. Puako is laid back with plenty to do and see. We especially enjoyed the turtles and snorkeling and nearby beaches where we used the boogie boards and beach chairs that were provided at the Treehouse. The Treehouse was nicely equipped to make our own meals and relax after a day of being out and about. The King bed was comfortable with a good mattress. Great ventilation. Nice being up high. Mary and Robbie are well organized and helpful. Many thanks for a wonderful stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My heart ached for the Treehouse after my husband and I left! Our stay there was such a wonderful surprise. The constant sound of the ocean, snorkeling together with the turtles every morning, relaxing on the lanai in the afternoons, sunsets from our seat on the lava rocks, dinners and music at the nearby Blue Dragon restaurant.... Can't wait to come back! Mary's personalized attention was so great. Thanks so much for making our vacation wonderful!Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

We just returned from a long-anticipated two-week trip to The Big Island. We stayed in the Treehouse the second week and Puako was a great base to explore the west side of the island. Treehouse is just about perfect for a couple. Comfy bed (wife really liked the pillows) fairly well equipped kitchen, decent bathroom. Puako's tidal pools and sea turtles are an easy walk away and the provided beach chairs/coolers/umbrella were appreciated. The cottage is not air conditioned but we didn't mind too much. Our late November travel dates worked out with the temperatures being under 85 during the day and pretty steady breeze in the evening to keep us cooled off. I am not sure we would have been as comfortable if the trade winds had died, but we are "hot natured" people and need our A/C! This may or may not be a consideration for you. Overall a really nice little place to stay and well located for exploring the Kohala coast. Booking agency (2 Papayas) made us feel welcome and provided lots of good advice as well as giving us a "puppy fix" when we needed it. Mahalo for that Mary!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.
