3 friends stayed here 2 nights and this place was perfect. The kitchen had everything we needed and everything worked. The house was exceptionally clean. We enjoyed being so close to a public dock, especially on a starry night and we enjoyed our wine hour on the backyard patio. We want to come back!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

My husband and I stayed there with my brother and his girlfriend, perfect for the weekend! Exactly as pictured and perfect for what we needed. Nice open area from kitchen table to TV room - I think we had 10 people comfortably hanging out there before walking downtown for winter festivities. Back yard looked great (big, fenced)--just wish our dog could have enjoyed it. Overall, wonderful stay!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

My girlfriend and I stayed their during the 2nd weekend of September 2011. We were looking for a get-away near Clear Lake and this spot was exactly as advertised. The home was kept very nice and was perfect for what we were looking for. The backyard is fantastic as it is very spacious, although there is only a very small grill to use, but otherwise great for a small family or a group of friends. The home is perfect walking distance to the lake/beach/shops/restaurants/bars so plenty to do for all ages. The TV in the family room was smaller than expected, so hard to watch the football games, but we were out on the town most of the weekend. For the price per night, the home was everything we would have hoped for and more. We will definitely be back to this home. I would recommend this for anyone traveling with 2 couples or a small family.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

Three of us stayed at this lovely cottage for a week in July. It was very comfortable and provided everything we needed. It was air conditioned, which was a blessing, and there is a fenced back yard with lots of shade (and sun if you prefer) perfect for outdoor meals. The bedrooms were both upstairs, and the beds were very comfortable. It would be a great rental for a family with 2 kids, if they don't mind sharing the 2nd bedroom. There is a full shower/bath upstairs in the master suite and a half-bath downstairs. It was great having a laundry unit as well - my brother and sister-in-law were traveling very lightly and were able to "renew" their wardrobe once during our stay. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishware, cookware, and spices, and you can walk to the downtown supermarket pretty easily. The cottage is three houses down from the public dock, and our relatives were able to easily boat across the lake and pick us up on the dock. Great for quick cooling swims, too! We walked to downtown almost every day (nice easy 5-block walk) and enjoyed the coffee shop, restaurants, and shopping. Be sure to check out the Central Gardens of North Iowa while you're here - they're quite beautiful, and take a ride on the Lady of the Lake. We had a car rented, but really didn't use it much since everything was well within easy walking distance. The Surf Ballroom is within a couple of blocks as well. The owners / rental agents were very helpful and friendly. I've been to Clear Lake almost every summer since childhood, and though Grandma and Grandpa's lake house is now sold and gone, this cottage was a fabulous find. I will be coming back for more!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.

We spent a very comfortable & relaxing weekend at The Cottage. I met my college roommate there for a girls weekend, and we brought our bicycles. Little did we know there was a Blues, Bikes, & BBQ festival in town! The Cottage is so convenient - close to the downtown area and we walked (or biked) everywhere. It is charming and comfortably furnished and we found all that we could need. The decor is very simple and inviting and the upgrades were perfect! We cannot wait to find out the date for the blues, Bikes & BBQ festival next summer and return! Thank you for the perfect spot to stay by the lake!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: Having grown up in Iowa and knowing that I wanted to 'come home', I was looking for a lake community that would have a robust, active, yet small-town atmosphere. I found it in Clear Lake. This town features many events and concerts throughout the year. There is a beautiful downtown center with a pretty beach and sea wall walk. A City art museum added to its charm. For those of us who love flowers the City garden park is spectacular.
Why the Owner Chose Clear Lake:
Our cottage feels cozy to us, is close to the lake and the seawall walking path and is in a great location to participate in all the activities Clear Lake has to offer. Remember walking to the town square or green and buying an ice cream cone? Remember needing a quick item from the grocery or drug store--well, you don't have to get in the car and drive, it's all within walking distance. City Park is very close and is a beautiful place to sit and enjoy all the city center has to offer..
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Off season, The Cottage and Clear Lake both offer warmth and inspiration while enjoying the Winter Party week at the Surf Ballroom honoring Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens. Or come for the large, colorful winter kite festival and the ice fishing on the lake. There is fishing year round. The Christmas events with parade and fireworks are truly fun. Of course, there is no better time than Clear Lake on the 4th of July with its massive fireworks display.
