Arezzo villa description
Il Castello is a country villa situated on a beautiful hilltop (700 mts asl) on the border between Tuscany and Umbria region. The estate dates back the 17th century and has been the summer residence of the same owners who have always loved to spend time all together surrounded by flourishing nature. So, it is an ideal location for large families and group of friends and it may appeal to all those looking for beautiful surroundings, peace and quiet.
We may accommodate up to 12 persons (4 double rooms, 1 twin room, 1 single room and 1 suite with two rooms and private bathroom). The villa is simply furnished in a rustic befitting an old farmhouse, with cotto floors and the original style exposed cotto ceiling tiles and wooden beams. Original furniture and wrought iron beds (width 1,50 mt). Spacious living/dining room is situated on the ground floor with open fire place and direct access to the garden where there are tables and chairs to enjoy your meals outdoor. The first and second floors have private entrances. On each floor there is an equipped kitchen and two bathrooms with showers or bathtub.
At disposal of the guests a private swimming-pool (12x5 mts – generally open from May to the end of September – may vary depending on the weather of the season), situated in a panoramic position surrounded by the natural beauty of unspoiled countryside. The pool area is equipped with deckchairs, tables, hammocks, ping-pong, refrigerator and barbecue.
Dipped in nature, Il Castello is the perfect refuge for all those who wants to relax but also a good starting point for sightseers. Far away from tourist crowds, yet it is very well located; from here you can easily reach places of interest in both Tuscany and Umbria such as: Cortona, Arezzo, Siena, Florence, Perugia, Gubbio and Assisi. Lake Trasimeno with beaches, water sports and enchanting islands - accessible by a short boat trip - is within an hour drive. For longer trips Arezzo has excellent rail links (ie. Rome is just 1 hour ride!),. The nearest village is at 6 kms, where you can find supermarket, bars, post office (a bank and a pharmacy are at 12 km).
Housekeepers live in a depandance near the villa and with their discreet presence they can be a reference for some service you may need (extra cleaning, meals...).
Guests are invited to relax on the extensive gardens and by the pool, enjoying meals outdoor and resting under the shade of a tree reading a good book. Breakfast, lunch, and evening meals can be prepared; barbecue by the pool, both served or self catered - whatever takes your fancy.

I've visited Tuscany during the summer months five times in the last five years. One thing that always surprises me is the heat of the Italian summer. The higher elevation of this villa brought cooler evening temperatures that were much appreciated. Of course the days were still hot, and I sat out by the swimming pool for days at a time. The pool, built into the top of a rise, is magnificent. The best aspect of the villa though, is the night sky. There are so many stars. The estate and the villa itself have the sort of historic quality you'd imagine in a Henry James novel. The caretakers, Sara and andrea, are also wonderful and very fluent. They are friendly, funny, and happy to be doing what they're doing. They're also very capable with the logistics of getting to and from the all the sights. I've rarely felt so rested, relaxed, and spiritually healthy as I did after staying at the villa.

About: I deeply care about this estate since it has been my family residence for centuries - it was built by one of my ancestor at the end of the 16th century. Summertimes at Il Castello are amongst the best memories of my life.
