We're Back for our Wedding Weekend... absolutely perfect!
We're Back for our Wedding Weekend... absolutely perfect!
I may as well copy and paste my last review from my Engagement weekend August of 2012 because this trip was just as enjoyable and amazing as that one was.... maybe even better. Let me start by saying that if you're looking for a luxury condo or house in Frisco, this is not for you... and that's a good thing in my mind. Both groups I have purchased the house for the two different weekends I've gone out there have said how amazing and "cozy" the house is. It's got a very mountain "ski lodge" type of feel to it. It's very "homey" and you'll love it if you're not looking for or expecting the Ritz Carlton. We loved using the hot tub and playing horseshoes. You are so close to Main Street you don't even need a car. Walking distance to Boatyard, Tuscato, Ollie's, Johnny G's and the Brewery to name a few places we love there. "Van" is the on-site maintenance guy and he's really helpful and awesome to hang out and even have a beer with! Both Mike and Amy are great owners and have done a great job laying out some simple check-in and check-out rules for guests to follow so that the home remains in great condition for the next guests. I'm sure we'll be back for the next adventure in Frisco! Thanks again guys! Best, Nick

Perfect "Retreat" for my Engagement Weekend
Perfect "Retreat" for my Engagement Weekend
I couldn't be happier with the Mardei's Retreat in Frisco. While trying to make my decision between this place and another, both owned by Mike and Amy, they told me on the phone based on my group and what we were trying to get out of the weekend, to stay here. They were 100% right. Our group loved it. It is VERY cozy and definitely has an old fashioned cabin feel to it which we loved. It was clean upon arrival and everything was in perfect order. The house is labeled and there are instructions for everything from Check-in to Check-out and everything in between. We LOVED being so close to Main Street. I think it took us all of 4 minutes to get to the Brewery and all of a minute to get to the bagel shop on our street. The hot tub was great fun and very clean (keep it that way if you stay there... it's nice for those who use it after you)! There was plenty of room and the front yard was a perfect place for our group to just hang out. I would DEF recommend this place to any group looking for a laid back place with plenty of rooms, parking and proximity to everything in Frisco. Thanks again Mike and Amy. We will definitely stay here again in the future if a trip warrants it!

Functional, but overpriced
Functional, but overpriced
The house is quite cozy (read small) and definitely does not have high-end anything. And, while it would be fine for us, given the price, we expected more. The rooms are smalls, the beds were not very comfortable, and the deco looks like it is from the 70s. It has some mountain cabin charm, but we have rented a house in the area every year for the past decade and I can comfortably say that it is seriously overpriced. The final detail leading to the fair rating was the endless lists of "house rules" left by the owners. I don't know if they have just been burned so many times before, or what, but it was outrageous and left us with a bad taste in our mouths. From the rules, you would think it was a museum or something.

Owner response: Wow, we didn't see that coming. Especially 10 mo later and no complaints during the stay. Yes, during The Holidays everyone's prices are higher. To accommodate their party of 14 we were still cheaper than a hotel/ motel room option. Who wouldn't choose cheaper plus have a private home with 7 bedrooms/ dining room/ living room/ kitchen/ HS wireless/ 8-person hot tub, and be all together, on a quiet corner lot in the center of Frisco? After 18 yrs, we've found that there are some who want a 5-Star property, yet aren't willing to pay the 5-Star price. This is an old Mtn home with tons of charm and character. This party booked after viewing all of the pictures on-line and a virtual tour, plus reading a detailed description. All of our furniture was purchased after 2000 when we bought the home. There are some vintage/ antique pieces. The beds are all pillowtops, most have additional down mattress pads and/ or 4" foam, too. What to do: when one prefers hard and the next prefers soft?? All are outfitted with warm flannel sheets in the winter. Aaah! Most of our guests appreciate our guidelines or understand why. They like knowing what to expect. This is an extremely popular rental year round and with the ability to sleep as many as 23, we try our hardest to keep it clean, cozy, comfortable and functional for the next arriving guest. We take this job of renting our large home very seriously. We aim to please everyone, but unfortunately it's not possible. We are sad when we cannot. Many thanks to our loyal customers. Many of you are now friends. We hope you, our new guests will enjoy and appreciate this property also. Please come and make some memories, Amy & Mike
I have stayed at the Retreat 5 times and with Mardeis another three. Everything was excellent. The locarion of the Retreat is ideal for skiing and Frisco is a lovely town with plenty of amenities. The photos were accurate as was the details of the house. I would not hesitate in recommending Mardeis to anyone. We travel from England every year to go skiing so it must be worthwhile.

Cozy and comfortable
Cozy and comfortable
This is a great place for a family get together, girls weekend..etc. We found ourselves in need of a place on short notice, contacted the owners and they were so amazing and accomodating. When we got to Mardeis Resort, we couldn't stop smiling. It's like a big cabin in the woods yet, just a block to downtown. LARGE kitchen and dining room. Huge living room, and I know they say 7 bedrooms..when we had got there we lost count! Each one is adorable and comfortable. There are at least 2 that are full family suites. We were so impressed. Yes, some of the furnishings are a little tired but, on the other hand, everything is very clean, and comfortable. A bit like going to your grandparents cabin. THis is a great place for summer or winter. Close to everything, but far enough away that you know you're on vacation. Nice deck and hot tub as well. This one is definitely worth a visit. You won't be disappointed. Take your bikes, ride to the marina, through downtown, or up to the new Frisco adventure park for great biking experiences for all levels. Kitchen is fully stocked with basics as well as about any kitchen appliance you can imagine. Great place. There were 6 of us and, we had so much room...it took us a while to find each other! Thank you again for a wonderful stay!

Owner response: We love it when guests appreciate this property as much as us. This mountain home has been in the family since 1985 and we take great pride in accomodating 6 or as many 23 guests. It's great for family reunions in the summer or multi-family ski trips in the winter. If you want 7 private rooms and that cozy mountain feel at an affordable price this is the Home for you.

Year Purchased: 1999
About the owner: We purchased this home from my family, in 1999, who had run it as a Bed and Breakfast since 1984. We continued to run it the same until 2000. We decided to rent the entire house, instead of room by room, as a Bed and Breakfast. My wife and I both left our Professional Careers; Mike in Financial Planning and Amy as a Registered Nurse. We raised our 3 children in the wonderful Mountain town of Frisco, and it was one of the best things we ever did.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
Frisco is in the center of 5 world class ski resorts and has a wonderful Nordic center. In the summer, this property is only one and half block to main street, and 5 blocks to the new Marina on Lake Dillon. Being in the center of the county, it is also the center of the over 60 miles of paved bike paths, and all the hiking tails.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
If you wanted the, 'Colorado Cabin in the woods' feel, you will enjoy this home. Cedar siding, large redwood deck with 6 person hot tub, and surrounded by mountains on all sides. Being only one and half blocks to main street all the restaurants, bars, and shopping is just a short walk away. The free bus stop is only about 4 blocks away. In the winter it leaves every 1/2 hour for the ski areas, and in the summer allows for bicycles to be transported.
