  We were fortunate to find Leigh & Cathy's property on VRBO and book it for our 40th Anniversary trip to Hawaii. We had never been to Hawaii before, and couldn't ask for a more perfect vacation! The condo is perfect - very comfortable with all the amenities you would want. The location was fantastic - you could see the ocean and look for whales from your lanai! The grounds at the resort were beautiful, the Expedia consultants and the staff at the Papakea front desk were very helpful. We would definitely recommend the Molokini Snorkeling excursion and the Road to Hana tour. Also, having the food store just minutes away made meals very easy. We cooked some steaks on the grill and were amazed at how clean the grill was. Having the washer and dryer there was certainly a plus. It was very difficult to leave and return to the real world. We're definitely going to try to come back, and would love to stay at Leigh & Cathy's condo again. We highly recommend it to anyone coming to Maui. Thanks for an amazing trip!

  We enjoyed our stay in this updated, well appointed and fully equipped condo at the Papakea. The amenities of the resort, the nearby restaurants and shops, and the quiet and comfortable condo all made for a delightful vacation. It was easy to work with Leigh and Cathy who sent all needed information in a timely manner and then checked to see that all was going well during our stay. We will be back!

  My wife and I stayed at Papakea Resort for our daughter's wedding in March this year. This was our first time on Maui and our expectations were more than exceeded. The resort grounds are beautiful and relaxing, the location is ideal for snorkelling and exploring the west coast of the island and has great access to local ammenities such as groceries etc.Leigh and Cathy were wonderful to deal with and very responsive to any small issues, making our stay in a little bit of paradise just a bit better! My wife requires use of a wheelchair and this unit and Papakea resort are easy to navigate and fully accessible. The unit is very clean, has a beautiful view of the grounds and the ocean, and it is a truly restful and reinvigorating spot. We have already booked our 2013 holiday with Leigh and Cathy and are looking forward to returning to their unit and to Maui time.

  We just returned from 12 days in this condo. Leigh and Cathy (owners) were very great to work with. Their condo was just as it appears in the pictures. We spent every morning having our breakfast on the lanai enjoying the view of the ocean and the island of Molokai. The air conditioned condo is equipped with all of the appliances, linens, dishes that one needs. It appears as a "new" unit and was very comfortable and clean with lovely furnishings We were within walking distance to a good grocery store and a fun restaurant (Java Jive). Also a small farmers market within walking distance too with delicious fruits and home baked goods. All in all, our trip was a wonderful experience and the owners were very helpful in every way.   We took our son to Maui back in 2010 as a graduation gift and stayed at another unit in Papakea. We enjoyed our stay at Papakea so much we vowed to return to this property. Papakea is a rare gem among the many towering properties that you will see along the Kaanapali shore. This quite, lush and beautifully maintained property is a breath of fresh air. While it does not have a beach front, you have an access to the beach at the neighboring property. Since all beaches in Hawaii are public everyone finds their favorite spot with no worries of trespassing. Nice! In one respect I think Papakea not having a beach front helps to keep things 'low key' and quite. :) The owners of this property have been a pleasure as well. They even helped us out with an extended check out time on the day of departure, so appreciated that! The unit was very clean, and nicely decorated. I especially appreciated the extras that came with this unit. Beach towels, 2 boogie boards, ice packs, basic spices are just a few that stood out. We left behind a couple bamboo mats that roll out. Place them on the sand before laying your towel out. Better yet, you can find free parking next to the Westin Ocean Resort where there is a public park off of Kai Ala Drive. We rented an umbrella and two loungers for the day (9am-4pm) for $40 from the Westin Pool Sevices hut. The best money we spent by far. It allowed us to stay at the beach the entire day without overheating and exhaustion. We packed a soft cooler in our luggage which allowed us to pack a lunch and drinks for days at the beach. Great property, great unit, awesome owners. Thank you Leigh and Cathy!

  We were at the Papakea for a week for the first week of August and we absolutely loved our stay in Maui.The condo was well equiped, had everything we were looking for, beach towels, boogie boards, icepacks, etc. All we had to buy was our food and drinks. The condo is well located, about 10-15 minutes from Lahaina, which is a very nice town to go out to eat and have drinks. The resort has free parking, two swimming pools and many chairs facing the ocean to watch the beautiful sunsets. There is no beach directly on the resort but there is one just next to it. The owners were very helpful and made it really easy for us, as it was our first experience with VRBO. We had a wonderful experience and definitely would rent again.

  After having spent most of the month at this condo, it was very difficult to leave. It became our home away from home.The owners are truly wonderful and take great pride in their unit .Everything we needed, plus more, was there in the condo.The decor and cleanliness was a delight and very well kept as the pictures indicate. Having the grocery store across the street is very handy and the ABC store through the parking lot gate was excellent. The concierge was very helpful and knowledgeable to book all our excursions. Old Town Lahina is such a cute little town to go to eat at or to shop.The market down the road on Mon,Wed, Fri had a great assortment of fresh fruits and veggies. Green sea turtles come right up to the beach area and feed daily by 5pm by the stone wall of the resort. It was a treat to see. We went to the awesome swap meet on Saturdays at the college and had a blast shopping. We also went to church on Sundays in Lahina. It is very easy to get around Maui. Papakea truly is a wonderful place to vacation.

  Had a fantastic first stay at Papakea! This condo was extremely clean and comfortable and had more than we expected, including boogie boards and a nice putter. We appreciated the updates and decor that wasn't overly flowery. We were very grateful for the AC, especially when we closed drapes for privacy which cut off the fresh breeze from outside. Beach access was only available from the resort next door, a few minutes stroll away. Papakea Resort had no usable beach- there was water up to the sea wall except at low tide when a narrow strip of sand appeared. Perhaps at other times of year the beach is more accessible (we were there first week of June). To view the sunset we also had to walk to the beach next door. 5 min walk from the resort is a great little fish market with the freshest fish ever, perfect for a meal made in the condo. West Maui has fantastic snorkelling, one our favorite activities while visiting the island that we reccommend to everyone. Owners of this unit were very helpful with the reservation process and I felt very comfortable with my first VRBO experience. We plan to keep Papkea Resort in our future travels!

  This newly renovated unit was beautifully decorated, clean, and had all the amenities one would need. Great location, where you can walk to Markets, Restaurants, and our favourite, Duke's on the Beach! The grounds are very well maintained, which enhanced our balcony view overlooking the gardens, palm trees and ocean. The owners of this unit were very courteous, honest, and helpful.Thank you Leigh and Cathy for your very comfortable accommodations. We would highly recommend this unit at the Papakea Resort. Hopefully the Graceful SeaTurtles will still be feeding at the seawall when you arrive.

  This condo has a great location in Maui and is for an excellent price. The Papakea grounds are very beautiful with an older community, 50+ age range, (there were a few younger couples and families) which makes it pretty quiet at night. This worked well for us since we were up pretty early each morning going to the beach or exploring areas of Maui. There is a pool, hot tub, and BBQ grills for grilling, which are extremely convenient. The condo itself is very well maintained, clean and modern. It was great to have a washer and dryer and a full kitchen. Grocery store and a place to rent snorkel gear are nearby along with a few other shops. We would definitely stay here again, especially for the price. The owners were great to work with, very timely with answering any questions we had, and made our first VRBO experience an excellent one.
