Beachfront Lake Erie Cottage
- Minimum stay:2-7 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Come visit us at Steelhead Run offering panoramic views of the sunsets on Lake Erie. You will find this one bedroom cottage to be quite comfortable offering all the utility of a smaller home. We have another cottage next door, see VRBO #427161. When you arrive you will find yourself nestled between Lake Erie and Chautauqua Creek on 7 forested acres. Both features can be accessed in less than a 200 foot walk from the cottage. On the beach you can spend time hunting for beach glass and driftwood, or take the half-mile walk along the beach to Barcelona Harbor area to enjoy a bit to eat, a cocktail, or even purchase a smoked fish at the fish market. Barcelona Harbor also offers a marina and a public launching facility to access Lake Erie. Do you want to go fishing? Take a charter out of the harbor, or try and hit the world renowned Steelhead fishery found in Chautauqua Creek. Don’t worry if Lake Erie is a little too rough on that day for boating. Make a trip to any one of the four inland lakes a short drive from the cottage. Chautauqua Lake is the largest and closest (5mi.) inland lake to the cottage. Chautauqua Lake offers many attractions available by boat that includes, The Chautauqua Institution, Midway Amusement Park, Long Point State Park, shopping, and numerous restaurant/bar establishments. There is truly something for everyone here.
Consider a wine tour if you’re looking to venture away from the lake for a bit. Lake Erie Wine Country, located in the largest grape-growing region east of the Rockies, extends roughly 45 miles from Silver Creek, New York to North East, Pennsylvania. At the end of 2011, it has become home to over 24 commercial and estate wineries. Other attractions within arms reach include Niagara Falls, restaurants, ski resorts, snowmobile trails, nature trails, golf courses, inland lakes, shopping, and a casino, most in less than a 30 mile radius. Additionally, one can find cultural stimulation at Chautauqua Institution. Here you can enjoy their symphony, concerts, speaking venues and theater performances.
We are located ½ mile from the New York State Thruway (I-90), Exit 60. From here, you will find that it’s a quick ride to and from the Buffalo or Erie International Airports.

We stayed at the cottage over Christmas with our dogs. The cottage was warm and inviting, very well built and in a quiet, private setting. Very comfortable beds, everything we needed for cooking was available in the kitchen. It was great to be right on the beach - although it was cold and windy, we walked with the dogs every day, they even swam in the lake. Fished every day in the Creek, had a fresh steelhead for Christmas dinner. Lots of good fishing spots within walking distance of the cottage. Westfield is a nice little town with restaurants, shops, and convenience stores, everything you could want. I found lots of beach glass and cool rocks to bring home. We had a wonderful time celebrating Christmas in this lovely place, hope to come back again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: It was nice that the cold weather didn’t keep from exploring outside. There is plenty to do and see here in the winter as you experienced. You guys are the first I have known of to have had a fresh steelhead dinner on Christmas. Nice job! Please do come back and visit again, Dave

Perfect getaway! The cottage was so private, cozy and immaculately clean. The views of Lake Erie and the proximity to the beach were great. We unfortunately didn’t have the best weather but we still really enjoyed our stay. The recommendations that were given for local restaurants and places to visit were very helpful, we loved the Bark Grill and Main Diner. We will definitely be back again! Thank you!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Yes, sorry about the weather. Thankfully, there is plenty to do and see around Westfield when Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate. Each cottage is professionally cleaned in between visits regardless of how well it is left. The ladies take a great deal of pride in what they do, and I am lucky to have them. I will pass along your comments; they always like to hear the feedback. Look forward to having you back, Dave

We really enjoyed relaxing at this great little cottage. The sunsets were beatiful and our dog enjoyed walks on the beach and chasing waves. Everything you need is provided and then some. The property is private and peaceful with fishing just a short walk down the beach. Hope to make a trip back for a longer stay next year! (sorry i forgot my lettuce in the fridge!)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Well, Thank You. Actually I do wonder sometimes if our canine friends enjoy the property more than us. I guess they need a vacation as well. Not a problem with the lettuce, the cleaning service offered it to the local rabbits. I do request that next time you forget the beer. I do have an agreement with the girls that I get to keep that! Hope you visit again soon, Dave

The Cottage is ALL that the description details. Well built, perfectly clean, very nicely appointed and supplied. I cannot add anything else to all the other reviews, they are all true and accurate. The location is fantastic; it has to be the envy of any other cottage. Personally, I would call this structure a Cabin but, with all of its amenities, the term Cottage suits it best. I came for the fall Steelhead fishing and was not disappointed at all. Not just because that the fish plentiful but because the Creek is RIGHT THERE!! If you forgot something at the cottage, you would not care because it will literally take you one minute to go back. The Lake is just steps away and the beautiful sunsets flood the kitchen table for dinner, or sit overlooking the beach in the bench swing. Plus there is a terrific yard area between the cottage and the beach. It was a perfectly relaxing week, bar none. The owner David stopped by for a chat, and I found him to be a very personable and genuinely friendly and accommodating. We talked about some common outdoorsman type interests and he even surprised me with the casual mention of a “celebrity” spokesperson he knew. But in town whenever I was asked where I was from and where I was staying, I said “New Jersey and at a little cabin right on the lake.” And from EVERY person I said that to, I got the same response, “Oh, your over at Dave Spann’s place, know him well.” And then I got great service. It seemed to me that David Spann was the real “celebrity” to know. Just to wrap-up, I am a 51 year old man who came with only his dog, for a quite week away from my daily business grind to simply watch the world spin without me, while holding a fishing pole in my hand and my dog smiling up at me. And this is the place where that came true. I’m still basking in the afterglow, once I snap too I am booking again for next year.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Andy, thank you some much for sharing the attributes of Steelhead Run. It’s difficult to describe our cottages without the actual experience. You summed it up nicely. As far as the celebrity thing, well that’s just part of small town living. I’m definitely not a celebrity, but really do enjoy Westfield. Our family is proud to share our piece of Westfield with whomever wants’ to share.

My name is Erin and I work for rue21. We are a nationwide apparel retailer located in western Pennsylvania. When looking for an ideal location for our Holiday photoshoot, this property stood out by leaps and bounds from any other on this site and in the area! Eagerly we made arrangements with Dave, the property owner to occupy both cabins for the week. Upon arrival, your breath is taken away by the untouched natural beauty of the property that is tucked into a quiet rustic setting. As you step out of your car you are inspired by the sounds of the waves crashing on the nearby shore, a mere 50 yards from your cabin's front porch. And just when you think the location can not get anymore beautiful, nightfall comes and the clouds roll away to reveal the night sky filled with stars...and if you, too, are a city dweller, this can certainly remind you of the greater things in life that you may not often have the opportunities to enjoy daily. In addition, the properties were new, clean and prepared for anything our hearts desired. All of these picturesque things were only the icing on the cake after working with Dave and his family to ensure our production crew's success while also shooting commercial photography on the property. Dave was more than understanding of our fake snow, christmas trees and holiday lights that were brought onto the set...even in early September! Being in the business for almost a decade, I can honestly say that it is truly rare to find those who will selflessly go out of their way to make sure your stay and production is flawless and accomodating, but Dave has shown not only me, but my crew, that there are genuinely great people who will open their homes and their hearts without reservation to help others in need. Without Dave, his lovely family and his beautiful property we would not have had nearly the success we accomplished in that brief week. Everyone can agree, we can not wait to come back and enjoy the setting for a little rest and relaxation again in the near future! We promise to leave the fake snow at home next time. With immense gratitude and appreciation, Erin Remaley & rue21 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ We also rented other cabin on the property for the week, #427161. I highly recommend taking a group and renting both properties!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank You Erin! Our experience was equally enjoyable and interesting. It is not very often that you get to observe a professional photo shoot. It was certainly a pleasure helping you to coordinate some of your activities while you were at Steelhead Run. We were very happy to understand that our property was more than suitable for the success of the photo shoot. Moreover, it was so nice to see a large group of young people work so well together. We were quite impressed and pleased with the mannerisms and character of everyone involved. Very professionally done! I commend you and staff on efforts made for a successful shoot. We hope to see some or all of you back to Steelhead Run in the near future. Tell everyone I said Hi, Dave

My son (from South Carolina) and I just recently stayed in this Lake Erie Cottage in Westfield, NY. Although I live in Erie, PA, it felt like I was in another world! So peaceful and relaxing, cozy and comfortable. The owner was warm and welcoming with unique mementoes of our cottage experience! We had such a good time that we are planning to come back next summer!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks Teri - I enjoyed your company and seeing you and your son share memories at Steelhead Run. It really makes us feel good to share our property with people that appreciate it. Hope you can make it out to see us soon. Thanks again, Dave

What a wonderful place! My family had a great time playing on the beach and in the lake just steps from the house. The cabin was cozy, so well stocked and CLEAN. The sunset views from the living and dining rooms were breathtaking and the breeze off the lake kept the mosquitoes away. Restaurants were within walking distance along the beach and the smoked whitefish from the fish market was just as good as I remembered from childhood vacations in Westfield every summer. Portage Pies was an awesome discovery and with all our visitors, we went through 3 pies, all delicious. I highly recommend this cabin!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much! Old memories and new findings in Westfield; glad Steelhead Run was helpful in coordinating that experience. Hope to have you back soon.

We enjoyed this lovely little cottage so much! Everything is there for you from the i-Pod dock to pots, pans and salt and pepper! Loved watching the birds and looking out to the lake as we rocked on the rocking chairs on the deck. Most of the time we had the beach to ourselves, just an occasional passerby. The location is great, close to shopping and restaurants, though we rarely left the property. There is lots of space in the clean storage shed where we stored our beach chairs. We found the cottage and property very neat and clean. The photos are very nice but really can't show the wonderful detail of the craftsmanship in the cottage. The owner is extremely helpful and we thank him and his family for sharing this little slice of heaven with us!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Wow! Thank you for the complements, and terrific review. Also, we really did appreciate your patience and understanding while we finished construction of our new neighboring cottage. It was nice to see that your children made time to visit and that you were able to spend some time with them at the cottage. I really did enjoy our many conversations, and the time you shared with us at the campfire. We really look forward to your return visit with us.

My wife and I arrived after dark on the coldest day of the year and were welcomed with a warm, cozy cottage. Very comfortable and there was everything we needed. In fact, there were probably even more supplies than are listed. Access to the lake is very easy, and the beach is great. Took a couple long walks and found beach glass, beautiful stones. Our excursions were limited by the ice and snow, but it's a beautiful location any time of the year. Close to wineries. Easy beach to kayak or canoe off of. Highly recommend this place.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Glad you we able to encounter and enjoy a winter experience at our cottage. Thank you for the nice comments. Dave

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: This property has been in our family since the late 60’s. My wife and I built a home on here in 1998. This is where we continue to raise our children, Anthony and Morgan.
Why the Owner Chose Westfield:
We chose to build here to provide visitors with actual beachfront access. Much of the Lake Erie shoreline is elevated high on bluffs making it quite inaccessible. While staying here, you will find access to the lake very easy and the beach to be quite extensive.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Whether you’re an experienced steelheader or beginner we can accommodate you. We have teamed up with Chrome Run Guide Service. Any anglers new to the fishery can take advantage of learning expert techniques necessary for landing steelhead. Call now for special rates on fishing packages. Remember, Chautauqua Creek is in the middle of 'Steelhead Alley' where anglers can head in either direction to fish other streams. Chautauqua Creek has one of the largest catch rates of Steelhead in 'Steelhead Alley'. It has been calculated that fishing success equals 2.5 fish/hr. of fishing effort.
