Cucuron villa description
A charmingly and authentically restored 120 m2 provencal house set at the foothills of the Luberon National Park. Le Bastidon de Saint Martin offers modern amenities combined with authentic provencal charm. Carefully furnished to a high standard, the house is perfect for a family or small group of friends. The property is very well situated within a few minutes drive of the historic villages of Lourmarin, Cucuron and the ancient citadel of Ansouis crowned with a 1000 year old castle fortress and the Chapelle de Saint Martin. Marseille international airport is 45 minutes drive away and Aix TGV train station 35 minutes away. There is wi-fi internet connection and cable TV in place.
Both Cucuron and Lourmarin have world class Michelin Star restaurants, superb brasseries and cafés. The area has also been a French cultural and artistic hub for well over a century at the time attracting the great impressionist painters in search of “the perfect natural light” and also the well known French intellectual and writer Albert Camus who is buried in Lourmarin. The house is in close proximity to the wonderful chateaux and wineries. There is a visitor's guide in the house with details of contacts, locations and opening times of all the local wineries.
The house has views of the Mourre Négre, the highest point of the Grand Luberon to the north. The property is surrounded with fields of Grenache and Syrdah vines, working truffle orchards, olive groves giving rise to complete privacy yet within a few minutes reach of active village communities with markets and shops.
The property comprises threee bedrooms, one central bathroom with separate shower and bath. There is also a separate wet-room accessed from the courtyard with a shower, toilet and basin. Two of the rooms each have single beds, the third room has a queen sized bed. The rooms are tastefully decorated with locally acquired provencal style furnishings and art work. Travel baby cots are also available.
There is a wide and spacious open plan “salon” 11 m long encompassing the kitchen, dining area and living space with a central wood-burning fire place. The walls are simply white-washed in keeping with the local style and the floors throughout are of hand made rustic terracotta tiles. Just off the salon is a corridor with a small library and games for your enjoyment.
There is a well planned and fully-equipped kitchen and a library of cookbooks for your reference. Catering contacts can be provided upon request. The kitchen opens out in to a rustic courtyard with a shallow goldfish pond fed by a natural spring.
The living space opens out onto the gravel terrace perfect for “boules” matches and an outside table under muscatel vines. The terrace overlooks the property with banks of lavender bushes and an orchard comprising cherries, apricots, figs, apples, plums, quince, almond, walnut and olive trees. The view of the Luberon extends along the north side of the property.
There is also a shaded pine grove with a child play area, swings and slides and and climbing tower. Flanked on two sides with a natural stone decking, the swimming pool measures 10 by 4.5 metres. It has a level shallow end 1 m deep descending to 2m in the deep end. The pool is equiped with a safety alarm system.
The villa is perfectly located to explore the many attractions of this beautiful region and towns further afield such as Apt, Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, Arles, and St. Remy de Provence. Nice and the Cote d'Azure are 2 hrs drive away and the southern Alpine ski resorts around Barcelonette are approximately 2 hrs drive away.

This is a comfortable, nicely appointed house that was perfect for our family. The garden is particularly lovely, with a well-tended swimming pool and several fruit trees. The cherries, apricots, and plums were all ripe when we visited--and the kitchen was ideal for baking. The surrounding countryside is quiet and pretty; the house is surrounded by farms and close to several vineyards, all along small lanes that are perfect for walking or biking. And it's only five minutes by car to Cucuron and Ansouis and perfectly situated for day trips throughout Provence, including the coast. If we come back to the Luberon, we will stay here again.

Beautiful, clean and comfortable house, with a lovely yard and surroundings. Kitchen is properly equipped and the fireplace worked wonderfully to keep us warm during the chilly evenings. The house had books, including some children's books our daughters just loved. Isabelle, who opened the house for us and gave us the keys, was friendly and helpful. The beds were clean and comfortable and the wifi worked properly (after Isabelle took care of it...) We recommend this place warmly and hope to be back during warmer weather. Finally - we lost a piece of a puzzle on the floor... if anyone finds it, please give it to Isabelle and she will mail it to us.... Thanks!!!!

Owner response: Great that you enjoyed yourselves, the house and the area! Each season in the Luberon has very different experiences to offer - from the markets and festivals in the winter months through to the warmer weather and the pool in the spring and summer. We hope you return again.
We (two adults and three children) spent one relaxing week here in June. The house is cozy and tastefully decorated. The yard is extrememly spacious and private. We had fun playing with our children around all of the beautiful olive, cherry and plum trees. We enjoyed sitting on the shaded terrace looking out over the beautiful setting and swimming in the lovely pool, nestled into the yard. It was a joy to return to this house, the drive lined with lavender, after a day of hiking in the area or exploring the tiny nearby villages and markets. We hope to return!
