Scenic Riverfront House-Quiet Stretch of Guadalupe
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
A picturesque waterfall runs across this quiet stretch of the Guadalupe River, creating a perfect place for wading on one side, and for exploring or just putting our lawn chairs in the river and relaxing on the other side. The location is perfect for using our kayak, and you can tube right to our back door. A favorite pastime is watching the river go by from the three-tiered, large riverside flagstone patio. It is also a wildlife magnet, with osprey and heron fishing here. Oh, and so do the fly fishermen, as this trophy section of the river is stocked with trout from November through February directly across the river. All of this can be enjoyed from the multiple layers of decks outside of this charming, well-appointed, and recently remodeled (2010) house with all of the creature comforts. The many activities of Canyon Lake, Gruene, and New Braunfels are also just a short drive away.
This house is on the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country between Canyon Lake and New Braunfels. It is the best of both worlds...you hear nothing but the sounds of the waterfall on this quiet stretch of the river, yet you are only minutes from the many Canyon Lake activities as well as New Braunfels' shopping, restaurants, and Schlitterbahn, the nation's best water amusement park. But with groceries, gas, and restaurants all located within a mile or so from the house, swimming, fishing, and use of our tubes and kayaks right off the back deck, there is no reason to go anywhere else. But, if you must, you are also close to arts, crafts, and antiquing in Gruene as well as over 240 stores at the famous Outlet Malls in San Marcos. And, of course, Austin, the live music capital of the world, is an hour away. It is even quicker to get to the many attractions that San Antonio has to offer, such as Sea World, Six Flags, the Riverwalk, and the Alamo.
This home was renovated in 2010. It has granite counter tops, tile floors, new appliances, microwave, washer & dryer in the utility room, comfortable beds, HDTV with cable, Wi-Fi, iPod dock/radio, central air & heat, new large flagstone patio with wide steps to the river, & plenty of seating in the living room, dining room, & outdoors.
We have a two person kayak and tubes for your use. If you need more, there are rentals at the end of the street. We have also put together a guide that has info on local attractions, restaurants, etc. and hints for getting the most out of the property and the river. For example, we list places you can tube/kayak to or places you can park upriver so that you can tube/kayak back home.
There are 3 queen beds, including one comfortable pull out bed in the living room.
Fishing: Fishing is a popular pastime on the Guadalupe, and the waterfall in our backyard is a popular spot for fish and anglers alike. Both the Texas Parks and Wildlife and Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited stock the river with trout between November and February, and the fish thrive in the cool waters of the Guadalupe, which was recently voted one of the top 100 trout streams in the US.

I really enjoyed my 1 week stay here, found it to be very quiet and relaxing. The sound of the river below the homewas soothing for the nerves. The home was very clean and just as described. I played 5 local golf courses which was quite a joy with the elevation changes (I'm from FLA). The weather was cool several nights and the fireplace was great. The home came ready with all the essentials and I recommend it to any couples or small families.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and immediately feel in love with the place. Easy drive from the Dallas area! Beautiful scenery, lovely house and the views of the river were magnificant. The soothing sound of the river flowing was extremely relaxing. We saw several deer across the field each morning around 6:50 a.m. My husband brought his kayak however 2 were available to use on the property, which I tried kayaking for the first time myself, LOVED IT! Extremely easy to get into the water right in front of the property. Alot of people fishing for trout and my husband caught a nice 20" one. In regards to the house itself, it was a home away from home! We brought things we thought we might need but didn't need them as the kitchen was well stocked with all the gadgets and applicances. We loved having a microwave, dishwasher and washer/dryer. It was nice having the "soaps" available for use as well. The beds were very comfortable and we were able to use the fireplace which made a romantic setting. The little extras were wonderful down to the Qtips in the restroom. We loved the information notebooks on the coffee table, very useful. Instructions for the different items in the house were very helpful. We did try the local barbeque place and Sweenies donuts which was very good. We cooked most of our food at the house. Enjoyed morning coffee on the 3 different sitting areas outside while watching the fish jump, deer and squirrels! I would highly recommend this place to anyone, we already have next years trip booked! Thank you for sharing your wonderful piece of Paradise!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

Our five weeks at the river house could not have been any better!!!!. The pictures do not do the place justice!!! The view is amazing!!! The owners have thought of everything you could ever wish for to make your stay pleasant. The home was spotless when we arrived. A fresh boutique of flowers were waiting for us on the breakfast bar which was an unexpected surprise!! Working with the owner is very easy. He returns emails promptly and accurately. We will definitely recommend this place to our friends. While we were there we were able to watch the stocking of the river with trout which was very interesting. Watching the fisherman and wildlife each day was great. We actually watch two hawlks build a nest in one of the trees right in front of the house. It was fascinating to watch how they went about their project. We will definitely be returning to thie "little piece of heaven"!!! Phillip CarlsonDid you find this review helpful? What a wonderful way to spend 7 days over the Thanksgving holiday. Complete with early morning fishing, mid-day kayaking, afternoon naps, evening games and nightime moon-gazing this was the perfect holiday in the perfect place. Chris and Amanda have thought of everything. One need only bring something to wear, something to eat and drink and of course, something to fish with. The sound of the river will soothe all that ails you. In fact, the only problem with this retreat is that it is difficult to leave. Thank you for sharing this slice of heaven.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us. Your home has it all. Beautiful scenery all around and best of all is the waterfall. So relaxing to watch and hear. The tubes and kayaks provided make it so easy to just jump right in the river and float and paddle immediately without any hassles. We saw all types of wildlife while paddling up river. After a lot of fun during the day, the beds are so comfortable, We easily caught up on much needed rest. We hope for another visit in the future. I also want to thank you for allowing us to bring our dog. She is such an important part of our family. She had a great time playing in the back yard, taking walks and riding in the kayaks. We enjoyed visiting Mrs. Bush's Pie Shop for some sweets.(Pecan and Key Lime Pie). Delicious. She also makes treats for dogs. Our dog loved them. We also enjoyed some great Italian food from Gennaro's Trattoria. There bread is awesome.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We chose well!. My husband and two sons rented this wonderful home for a week. We thoroughly enjoyed the back yard area, the rapids, kayaking and just relaxing on the lower deck near the river. It was nice to sit and watch nature. Chris was wonderful to deal with and was very patient with all of my questions. I highly recommend this home and will definitely be making a trip back.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We had an excellent time at the cabin. The view and the patio were both very relaxing, with a waterfall right outside the backdoor which provided a wonderful backdrop for the weekend. Accomadations were as advertised and the cabin was plenty spacious for our group. The location also provided easy access to town for food and supplies as well as quick river access. We did run into one brief problem - the tube rental spot nearby refused to take us with our own tubes! We were able to find a helpful person with a truck, but the owner of the tube place was very rude. However, that did not detract from our weekend nor should it detract from this rental!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

The property was very nice, loved the openess of the kitchen, living and dining rooms. Very clean, had plenty of towels and kitchen had everything you needed to cook with. It was very nice and quiet sitting out on the various patio's in the back yard, just enjoyed kicking back and listening to the water. The owner was very informative and helpful with a information about the local area, things to do, restaurants and stores, ect.... We cooked at the house, but enjoyed kayaking the river, went over to Canyon Lake Dam and walked across it, and around part of it. Also enjoyed a nature trail over in that area across from the dam. Really enjoyed our stayRecommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
