Our Unforgettable Family Reunion

Our lives were enriched by the magical setting of Ca’ Marcello. Jacopo’s gracious hospitality set the tone for our photo-book perfect family reunion with my husband’s Dutch family. The wrought iron gates set between two columns – topped with one statute holding clusters of grapes representing the bounty of the vineyards and the other holding a scythe representing the bounty of the land – opened to greet us, as if by an unseen hand. With its manicured gardens - anchored by a fountain with delightful statutes and pathways lined with giant terracotta pots, each with its own lemon tree – we entered a story-book setting and walked into history. What a privilege it was to live each day in our Italian home-of-our-heart, mingling our experience with ancient stories to stir the imagination. The unexpected touch of Jacopo’s hand-written note, tucked into a basket of fruit from the garden, inviting us to help ourselves to the vegetables, resulted in a large salad of freshly picked lettuce and sweet miniature tomatoes, with the added zest of anchovies, tuna, and feta -accompanied by crusty bread. The succulent pears were simmered in red wine and topped with whipped mascarpone and cream. A royal feast! The four-bedroom suite was spotlessly clean, inviting, and the thick towels were a welcomed luxury. The antique dressers with in-laid wood, elegant mirrors, velvet covered photo albums with metal locks, and a spinet - which was custom-made in Venice for the family composer, a contemporary of Vivaldi – resting in the grand living room of the apartment were some of the treasures. Early in the morning, paned-glass windows were opened; the shutters were unlatched and we greeted the new day. Have you ever seen a beautifully formed sculpture in its private niche, with manicured grass at its base? She was my companion during my early-morning swim; we shared the private garden. Its vine-covered pergola, sheltering the table and chairs, invited us to relax on a tranquil day. Exploring all the Ca’ Marcello gardens was a delight. Bringing our last night to a close with our evening ritual, we gathered around the tables that were placed outside in the left wing of the villa - its arches offering us an unforgettable view of Ca' Marcello - watching the moon appear in the night sky, savouring delicious Italian wine, and enjoying each other's company. Staying at Ca' Marcello is a treasured gift; the best place to begin each day as you explore the richness of the Veneto region nearby.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, sightseeing, families with teenagers.

My Husband and I spent our honeymoon at this amazing, Italian Villa. The stunning facade, elegance and charm made this time of our lives most unforgettable. We also will never forget the very warm hospitality we received and the life long friends we made during our stay. The grounds of this magnificent villa were also impressive as we wandered along the many paths through several of the gardens on this property. The botanical varieties and statues were an absolute treasure to the eye. The entire Villa, preserved as a historical landmark, will never be forgotten. The hospitality that we were privileged to receive will always be remembered and appreciated. We couldn't have had a better host than Jacopo. Not knowing a bit of the language, food or locale, he was more than thoughtful as he refused to let us starve and served us breakfast, coffee and the best lasagna dinner we have ever eaten, to this day. Not to mention the other delectable dishes he cooked for us, and the wine......made at their own winery! It is truly an impressive, enchanting place as we hope for the very best for the Marcello family. We will return. Thank you again, JacopoRecommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

This Villa Barchessa Apartment has it all! Our gracious and generous Villa hosts went out of their way to make our stay memorable. The time given to guiding us on day trips was invaluable. Our conversations with the owners about the history of their home and particularly about the great architect Palladio opened our eyes and hearts to the early days of the Venetian nobles. The apartment was very large and more than met our needs for sleeping, eating, and relaxation. It is a very comfortable place with 2 staircases and 2 floors.. Bedrooms and bathrooms are large and the entire apartment is full of beautiful furnishings with elegant touches. The location is very close to Padua, Vicenza, Castelfranco, Valdiobbiene, and Conegliano to name a few day trips. We highly recommend this Villa Apartment which easily sleeps 8 with lots of privacy between floors and individual room suites. Parking is easy and safe. We plan to return someday. .Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

No words can describe the wonderful visit to Ca'Marcello. From the fresh vegtables/figs/fruit when we arrived...to giving us juice./milk and drinks for the kids, for the arranging of the tours, to the clean pool, to walking in the gardens, to arranging a local dinner at a restuarant, to the tour of the house, to the cleanliness of the property, on and on and on. What an amazing place. Also, the hosts were wonderful. Great location to visit Venice, Padua, Dolomites, Bologna.Recommended for: Girls getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Dear Paul, thank you for your kind words... it has been a pleasure for em and my family to know you and we will always remember our time and lovely conversations together! Big hugs to you all and say ciao to Joe! Jacopo

Ca Marcello is a beautiful old Venetian Villa that gives you a real sense of how life must have been when all the villas were thriving. The apartment accommodation is great. We stayed there with our 3 children (ages 6, 4 and 2) and their grandparents. The kitchen was a little small but all we needed. The beds were very comfortable, there are plenty of bathrooms which are all very nice. There is plenty of room and it feels like a real home away from home. Even though it has stairs it is quite child friendly for very small children. We could lock them in so they couldn't get to the stairs. We had to close the windows to keep them safe but this wasn't a problem. The patio area down on the ground floor was so pretty to sit at and eat every night. The pool area is fantastic and quite closed in to keep kids in your sight. Plenty of grass for some ball sports too. The gardens of the villa are absolutely gorgeous and the owners allow you to walk around them whenever you want. Our children ran on the grass nearly every day and loved the space. The highlight was the owners, they were so lovely. They made us dinner on the first night, bought us heaps of fresh food out of the kitchen garden through the week and baked a cake for us. They were so attentive making sure everything was perfect and never got in our way. Really fantastic hosts. Carlotta gave us a tour of the main house, her family home. It was so interesting and made the stay even better. I'd recommend this place to anyone!Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Dear Anna, I'm afraid I wasn't at home while you were here (I was on a sailing week to have some rest!), but my mother told me how nice you had been to her and how glad she had been knowing you. She also wants to give a great hug to Glenys, a special grandmother of three beautiful kids! Best wishes, Jacopo

We were the guests of Jacopo and Carlotta for 6 nights and have fully enjoyed our time here. I stayed with my two grandchildren and they could play very safe in the garden and in the swimming pool. To show them more of Italy, we drove to several cities nearby, everyone of them unique and charming, and we took the train to Venice, a very comfortable and easy way to get there. During the week we heard piano playing during the day from the villa, where young people were working on a masterclass and on one of the last nights there was a concert of all these promising young talents. A luxury for us, just a few steps away in the big hall of the beautiful villa. The apartment itself is very tasteful with old furniture, comfortable chairs and good beds. Paintings everywhere. It was a hot week, so the airconditioning was very welcome and we could sleep well. We were surprised with an overwhelming lunch and all kind of attentions, least of all the delicious chocolate cake! Thank you for all your hospitality and kindness to share this beautiful place with us. I will surely come back with my husband who couldn't be there this time, because of his work obligations. Greetings from Elvy, Cederick and Saskia!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Dear Saskia, your kindness was unique, and seeing how joyful you were with your nephiews has been touching for us. I'm already waiting for you and your husband to come back... new cakes will be ready just for you! Big hugs, Jacopo

Dear Marcellos, What can we say - our group members have expressed our feelings very eloquently. Your warm welcome into your home made our stay very pleasant. Jacopo's attention to our needs was appreciated by all, and Carlotta's desserts will long be appreciated and remembered by the children. The dinner that the chef cooked for us was the highlight of our family reunion for both the locals and the Canadian contingent.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Villa Emo
"Villa and park visit. In the open countryside, its grand and sober architecture transforms a traditional farm into a real “Palazzo”, the interiors are beautifully decorated by frescoes of G.B. Zelotti, one of the best collaborators and friend of Palladio. Completely restored in 2005, this villa is considered the perfect Palladian project of a Renaissance country villa. www.villaemo.org"

Villa Cornaro (Unesco)
"Villa visit. The two-storey portico of this Palladian Villa had a great influence over the American Architecture, it is the only villa by Andrea Palladio to have inside the statues of the most important members of the Cornaro family (including the famous Queen of Cyprus Caterina Cornaro). Owned by an American couple who discovered and fell in love with it during a visit in the early ‘80s, this villa will surprise the visitors with its elegance and pure beauty."

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1550
About the owner: I was born and grew up in this villa. First of all through my family’s care and teaching, and then in a conscious and individual way, I was charmed by these incredible surroundings permeated by tradition and a warm welcoming feeling. After having spent 10 years away studying and working, in 2002 I decided to come back here, to my home, and put all my efforts in keeping alive its splendour and making it visible to our guests, hoping that they will feel the emotions that I felt and continue to do so.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
The Venetian villas are more than 4.000 houses, built between 1450 and 1700, and Ca’ Marcello is one of the few which is still lived by the original aristocratic family. The private park is 90.000 sq. meters and is rich in old-century trees, statues, flower beds. Going for a sunset stroll or for jogging in the early morning is like walking in heaven. During your stay, I'll be glad to accompany you through a private visit of the main building to appreciate the real Italian lifestyle and share our love for this beautiful place. Our family deeply believes in the great difference between being guests and being clients, and the first one is the way we like people to feel while having their holiday here.
Regarding the concept: The Barchessa apartment is the only guesthouse in the whole villa, independent and perfectly positioned (in one of the arcaded wings, called ‘Barchessa’). All the bedroom windows overlook the main Italian style garden and the villa’s façade.
Amenities: Several vegetables and spices can be freely picked up daily from our private kitchen garden. Dinners can be self-arranged by the guests, but can also be cooked by a private chef and served in the garden, everywhere the guests want.
Surroundings and activities: the property lays in the middle of the southern Veneto region. This means being a few minutes away from all major interesting destinations in the area: Venice (35 minutes by direct train), Padua (40 mins by car), Bassano and Asolo (30 mins), Verona and Lake Garda (90 mins), Cortina d' Ampezzo (120 mins) and all charming villages and Palladian villas.
Scenery lovers can visit the natural park of the River Sile, where also boating and kayaking facilities are available. Private visits to local cellars and wine producers are possible to taste the famous 'Prosecco'(50 mins from the villa).
Daily boat trips on the Brenta River are easy to arrange to enjoy the stunning landscape and Palladian villas from Padua to Venice.
