Beaufort house description
Beautiful, authentic 200 year old village house with a lovely south-facing view of the main square and the vineyards beyond. In the shadow of the medieval Chateau for which the village is named, Blueshutters Beaufort has been fully renovated with all modern amenities but maintains its original charm and character. Exposed beans and old terracotta tiles, niches tucked into walls and the softly winding stairs remind you of a simpler past and provide a traditional yet elegant southern France vacation experience.
Beaufort is tiny village of 160, with a good restaurant, daily deliveries of fresh meat, fish or baked goods, surrounded by vineyards and Castles. Only 30 minutes from the beaches of the Mediterranean, 25 minutes from the the ancient walled city of Carcassonne, Beaufort is in the heart of Cathar Country, 10 minutes from the Canal du Midi, a beautiful lake for swimming and the medieval town of Olonzac, which has everything you need to make your visit simply magnifique! The website doesn't do Blue Shutters justice. Well anointed and ample space for 4 adults. Great location for day tripping through the region and over to the Mediterranean. Highly recommended for those looking for a base of operations to play tourist. Lots to see and do within 1 hour of Blue Shutters.

Best vacation in years! Quaint and comfortable village house, perfectly located for day trips to the surrounding area. Owners have a very helpful book to take the guesswork out of where to go and what to do. We managed to see 10 of the 12 sights suggested - a reason to return.

Owner response: Our information book has become a popular feature with guests. We started with information about places to visit that are within a half hour of the house. We are now including other day trips that are a little further afield, as we do more exploring ourselves! We just added the great market day experience in Ceret which is the cherry capital of southern France.

About the owner: We are Canadians with our own television production and media training company. After producing 3 documentaries in France we realized that we wanted to be able to spend more time in what we think is one of the most beautiful areas of the world. In 2010 we made our dream come true.
Why the Owner Chose Beaufort:
After searching many parts of France we choose the Languedoc region for it's great vineyards, the mystery of the Cathar History and Castles and the 300 days of sunshine every year! We chose the village of Beaufort because it features a chateau that dates back to roman times and is therefore protected by strict rules which maintain its medieval beauty. The people who live in the area are friendly and helpful and appreciate the beauty of the area as much as we do.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
My favourite way to start the day at Blue Shutters is, after waking up slowly to the sounds of birds in the vineyard, walking one block to the bureau de poste to have a chat and buy fresh croissants or pain or chocolat for breakfast. Everyday there is also fresh baguette and some days eggs from the local farmer that are the most delicious I have ever tasted. I go back to the house make a cafe au lait and sit outside the front door and wait to hear the 'Hello hello' from the loudspeaker at the mayor's office, down the hill. After saying ' Hello Hello' the mayor announces what truck has arrived. As my french has improved I been able to figure out whether it is the man selling, fish, beef, chicken or yikes! horsemeat! Beaufort is a tiny village of only 160 people yet the world comes to me as it will to you.
