  I was able to communicate easily with Henry via telephone and e-mail prior to my arrival at the Mango House. I booked this apartment almost a year in advance so Henry worked out a nice monthly rate for me which was greatly appreciated. The photos and description of this very modern apartment are accurate. Henry and Maruysa live above the two listed rentals and are very friendly and helpful. My two main criteria when traveling were immediately met with a comfortable bed and hot shower. My first few days I utilized one of the boogie boards, a beach towel and beach chair spending some time in the sand and surf and grabbing on-the-go food. It felt so good to just stretch out and relax after a long day. About day 10 my travel companion met up with me and we were off to tour the island! We took a helicopter tour; snorkeled with the mantas; took a Mauna Kea summit tour; tried the newest lua’u on the island at the Mauna Lani, called “The Gathering of the Kings,” spent a day in Hilo, island hopped to O’ahu for a visit with my brother during Easter; and did some sport fishing. It was during this time that the kitchen became invaluable. I had long drank the coffee that Henry had provided to get my eyes open the day after my arrival but it took no time to fill the fridge and cupboards. There is a Farmer’s Market close by in Kona with free parking (go early and you will have no problem); Keauhou Shopping Center is close by with a KTA Grocery; Post Office; Long’s Drug; Movie Theater; Subway and several other shops. Wal-Mart is also close with a Safeway and Natural Food Store. With these choices, we had no problem staying fully stocked. Some of our non-excursion trips included going to a 4D Theater, viewing petroglyphs and watching for whales from the shore all at Mauna Lani resort; going to Waimea; visiting a few of the many coffee plantations and going to the City of Refuge (also great for snorkeling). Two things I would recommend is that 1) If you go to a lua’u, upgrade if you can, it is well worth the additional $25; 2) If you are going out sport fishing make sure you find a captain that will take you to the buoy. It is an all day trip but this is where you are most likely to hook up with something. All of this as my report, I would 100% recommend the Mango House or its counterpart. This was a wonderful place to return home to at night with the cool breeze and comfy bed and no hassle of parking.

  If you want clean, relaxing, quiet, convenient, all amenities, fresh air and beautiful views, then this is where you should stay. The location was perfect; close enough to Alli Drive, Costco and best beaches to get there in just a few minutes but out enough that you could sleep with the sliding door open listening to the birds and crackling palm trees. We loved having breakfast in the fresh morning air out on our private patio. Comes with everything you could need for your entire trip. When we did end up packing a little too lightly or needing a few odd things the owners were right there to graciously help out. Couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. Beats staying in a condo or hotel where you have to listen to doors slamming and people talking all the time. Packing things to the car for the day is only a 10ft walk from your door. We will definitely return her on our next trip to the big island.

  This trip was our fourth visit to Kona. When we were planning our trip and looking for places to stay, we were looking for some place to stay with a more residential feel this time. That's when we found the Mango House listing. The 1/1 was perfect for our needs. We stayed for two weeks and found that the description and location were exactly what we were looking for. Henry was very conscientious in communicating with us in advance and gave us written directions that made it easy to find the condo. On the day of our arrival, Henry was there to greet us in person and gave us a brief introduction to the property. The description and pictures of the property are all accurate and the views of the evening sunsets from the room are amazing. The kitchen was suitable for all our needs and we appreciated the convenienece of being able to prepare our own meals. As an added bonus, Kona offers several farmers' markets with fresh fruits and vegetables that you can stock up on. There are plenty of things to see and do on the Big Island, and the room is well stocked with lots of informational brochures on sightseeing and adventure type excursions and activities. We found Henry and Marusya were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. So, whether you're looking for a short term rental or a base for a longer term stay, we would highly recommend the Mango House! Oh, and we love Kona so much, we decided to purchase a condo there.

  This was our 2nd stay at the mango house and the owners have upgraded the unit with another tv in the bedroom and remodeled cabinets in the kitchen! We had great weather and we really feel we found a great place to stay in the kona area... Thanks again for the free night for returning guests! Alana

  We booked this place quite in advance, so I might of forgotten what to expect when we arrived. It's a house with a studio apartment, a one bedroom apartment, and Henry and his wife live upstairs, who are the owners. They are very friendly, they are full of suggestions on what to see or do, very talkative couple, very sweet and helpful. We stayed in the one bedroom apartment, it was very nice, it had tons of room, it was clean, the kitchen was great, the king bed was comfy, the shower was a bit small, but great for just one person, and the view was always amazing. The hot tub was great, the only thing with that was that you didn't have a view, the bush just needed a trim so you can watch the view from the hot tub. Great living room space, and the televisions with the cable television was awesome. The only thing with that was the bigger couch, tended to slope quite a bit in the middle, making it a bit uncomfortable to sit in. This place is close to everything, which was unexpected. we would definitely come back. Out of all the great things about this place, the only thing that was unexpected for us, was the the thin flooring. Meaning you can hear a lot of noise from upstairs, talking, walking around, etc. It's like, go to bed early and expect to get up early, but hey you are in Hawaii, take charge of the days you are here. If you expect to sleep in all the time, and stay up all night this might not be the place for you.

  This was our second visit and we enjoyed it greatly. Returning guests get one free night and that's just an added bonus to an already reasonable rate. The unit was clean, comfortable, quiet and has plenty of tv entertainment for viewing after a long day at the beach or hiking. There are good beaches nearby and easy access to most places. If you're unsure where to go or what to do the unit has plenty of maps and other suggestions for restaurants, beaches, etc. Or just ask the owner, Henry, who's always been helpful, friendly and willing to give advice. Highly recommended!

  29 Dec 2012 to 26 Jan 2013 Rita & Ed from Saskatchewan, Canada We found the Mango House through VRBO and booked it 10 months in advance. DO read all of the previous reviews, and view Henry’s video, and you will have a very accurate appraisal of this one-bedroom suite. The unit is well stocked with items including a hair-dryer, first aid kit, coffee grinder and maker, and rice cooker. HOT water was always available. There is lots of closet and cupboard space, and has a relaxed ‘at home’ feeling. A thoughtful addition, are the nightlights provided in the bathroom and the kitchen. The unit is bright with east/west facing views, and there is a wonderful cross-breeze. Henry (the owner) and Marusya live upstairs. Henry was available to check us in on our late arrival (at night), and completed a thorough orientation the next morning. He provided a nice touch, having two fresh oranges, and a gift packet of Kona coffee on the counter for us. They are very friendly, and helpful. Should you need anything, Henry will take care of it right away. This one bedroom unit is definitely spacious enough to stay long term. Also, should you be travelling with friends, or with additional family members, Henry has an adjacent studio suite. The neighbourhood is quiet and quaint with lots of birds, and yes, even turkeys! The Mango House is definitely an excellent choice for location, value and service. A few additional comments from our stay in Kona: if you have plans to go to the higher elevations, or to Hilo, do bring along a rain jacket, umbrella, and warm clothes. The highlights of our stay on Big Island included a tour of the Greenwell Coffee Plantation, a Blue Hawai’i helicopter sightseeing tour of the island, touring Hilo and the Hawai’i Tropical Botanical Gardens, the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, a snorkel trip with Fair Winds and their Manta Night Dive!   We are a family with #4 adults. At arrival reception was excellent (host very available) and apartment was very clean, large and fully equipped. Location is quite close to the airport and, even if on the hill, beaches are easily reachable by car. Other tours are possible with short trips. Markets and shops are located close to the apartment. We strongly recommend this location for Kona stays.

  We were first time visitors to The big island, Hawaii which says that we had limited knowledge of the place and activities around. We got fair amount of knowledge about the place from the owner. We had a great staying here. The house is very near to all the beaches in kona and 3 miles away from downtown and 10 miles from airport which was an added advantage. The house was great with all the amenities provided like snorkeling gears, paddle boat, binoculars etc. We stayed there for 6 days and had a great time enjoying the view from the house. For me, this came out to be the best place to stay. Thanks to the owners for the wonderful welcome and experience.

  “Mango House” was our perfect home as we enjoyed the magnificence of the Kona Coast with all its little shops and gorgeous beaches just miles from our home. This, our first visit to Hawaii, was to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Henry made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. I truly can’t think of anything that could have been added to this lovely home to make our visit more complete. We woke the first morning to a view of the ocean from our king size bed. We picked fresh vegetables to add to our first breakfast before we headed out for a walk around the lovely neighborhood which had rock walls sporting an abundance of colorful flowers pouring down the sides, and wild turkeys crossing the path in front of us. Our car was parked just steps from our front door and many convenient stores were just a few miles away. After one of our days at a nearby beach where we enjoyed snorkeling, all gear and beach supplies had been in our closets waiting our use, we came back to a cool and tastefully decorated living room to relax in front of a 42 inch TV. We aroused to experiment with cooking different dishes in the well- stocked kitchen and convenient barbeque. Closing the evening with a visit to the hot tub or sitting on the lanai and browsing through the many brochures, books and maps provided, invigorated us to plan our following day, our visits to the submarine and an unforgettable luau. Spending evenings watching the sun set is something that cannot be captured on a post card. Our house was always cool and relaxing and the closets and cabinets were well stocked with kitchen and bathroom supplies. It's evident that Henry has spent much time perfecting his line of work. We sensed that it was not merely a job, he loves people. I’d love to be able to fully express how welcoming our host and hostess were. We indeed made new friends, and we plan to stay in the same warm and cozy “Mango House” again.
