Harbor Country Vintage Log Cabin Hideaway, Short Walk to Beach
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Ours is a sophisticated tranquil hideaway just 75 minutes from downtown Chicago yet a world apart. We have priced it very competitively to make your stay affordable to a small family or two couples.
Totally renovated and beautifully decorated, this historic log cabin sits on heavily wooded acreage yet is just a short stroll to the beautiful beach at Stop 39 on Lake Michigan.
This is a charming, antique-furnished home with three bedrooms and three full baths. The home, which features a large deck with separate seating and dining areas, is extremely private. A screened porch in front offers another quiet area for relaxing with family or entertaining friends.
With all the comforts of home, this gem features a new, modern kitchen with gas range, dishwasher and microwave; two flat-screen TV's (37' and 24'), DVD player, stereo and high speed DSL service, W/D, central A/C, Weber gas grill and also a charcoal grill, and original fieldstone wood-burning fireplace. We recently added the second flat screen TV as well as a second DVD player in the lower level. We also made our home Wi-Fi enabled.
An easy 1-1/4 hour drive from downtown Chicago, this home is situated just five miles from the Lighthouse mall, the zoo and the Blue Chip casino of Michigan City, as well as the beautiful harbor, galleries, shops, Four Winds casino and restaurants of New Buffalo, MI with the cultural attractions of Three Oaks, MI just a few miles further.

This charming cabin was full of pleasant surprises. The location in the woods with a beautiful deck was private, yet convenient. The owner was very kind and accommodating. All supplies were provided and amenities were more than adequate. The furniture was comfortable and attractive. The rooms were clean with beautiful windows. The a/c and fans worked well. We stayed for a week and would not hesitate to give the place our highest recommendation. We would love to return someday.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

Our family of four had a lovely time here. The house is beautifully furnished -- simple but very friendly. The beach is close by and the walking around is very peaceful with many friendly neighbors. We felt so comfortable we wanted to stay another week!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

We had a wonderful time here and look forward to the next visit. The home is beautifully decorated and so comfortable. The location is ideal--woodsy and private, and a short walk to a great Lake Michigan beach. It would be a great escape for anyone from the Chicago area. I highly recommend this vacation home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

Our family, my husband, myself and our three kids - ages 17, 9 and 7 - had the most wonderful time spending a week in Michiana. Our usual family vacations are spent skiing in Vail which is always exciting and fun, but not the most relaxing. This trip was so relaxing and just easy! The beach is a short walk, the home is welcoming and comfortable. There was plenty of room for all to find their own space. The screened porch was awesome and we spent almost every evening playing games with the kids or sharing a glass of wine without them! New Buffalo has some great shops and places to eat. We also rented jet skies and tried the beaches in New Buffalo. But our favorite times were just spent sitting on the beach, both during the day and in the evening. It was a wonderful vacation and we can't wait to spend this Summer there again - this time for two weeks!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

We rented this most charming house after Labor Day 2011, It had everything we could have wanted, both indoors and outside on the lovely deck, screened porch and garden. It is such a comfortable and welcoming home, light and cheerful, with lovely furnishings and a well-appointed and well-suppled kitchen and other amenities. It was cozy, yet spacious enough for overnight guests without compromising our privacy. We used it as a base to explore Harbor Country--the beaches, nearby towns and nature trails. It was also just a short hop to Michigan City when we wanted a movie or shopping. Finally, the owners were extremely helpful in familiarizing us with the house and answering any questions we had. We would most definately recommend this property to friends or relatives.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

Last summer, my husband, son and I stayed at this lovely home for 3 weeks. The house is very comfortably furnished, more like a house than a "cottage". And, despite being only a short walk from the beach, there's a great sense of privacy because it's totally surrounded by trees. We used the huge back deck for almost every meal. The owners were responsive and attentive, but not at all intrusive. A great find. Highly recommend.Owner response: Thanks, Moira, for the glowing review...will you be joining us again this year? Best regards, Harry.
