Our secluded, panabode, log cabin on ten-plus acres has a pristine waterfront setting, yet can be reached in less than half an hour from Vancouver by float plane. Tucked into the edge of thick, West Coast forest, it is only steps away from the private wharf which incorporates a sitting area with choice of sun or shade.
The waterfront is low bank with several private beaches. There are very productive oyster beds off these beaches and rocky reefs. The property offers spectacular views of Blind Bay and the open Pacific Ocean (Malaspina Straight) plus nearby Texada Island. In summertime the crystal-clear water is warm enough for swimming or any other water sport one can think of. This place is for those who want to experience nature on its own.
The cabin can only be reached by boat, water taxi, or a 25-minute float plane ride from Vancouver International Airport. This property offers sheltered, deep-water moorage and ample opportunity for ocean kayaking, boating, swimming, diving, and fishing.
THINGS TO DO: This place is for nature lovers. If you are looking to others for entertainment, Nelson Island is not for you. Outdoor comforts, such as lounge chairs, deck table and seating, sun umbrella, barbecue, etc. are all provided. Grocery shopping, postal service, banking, etc. is best done from Powell River via Saltery Bay, where we have moorage in the marina. Nelson Island is strategically located at the mouth of the Jervis Inlet, which is a fjord that reaches far inland into the remote British Columbia Coast mountains.
The world-famous Princess Louisa Inlet can be found at the eastern end of the Jervis Inlet. These inlets, which have some of the deepest waters of British Columbia (over 600 meters deep) can be safely be explored by use of a small boat; again it is possible to charter water taxi’s and float planes as well.
Nelson Island is located in a position from where many of the Sunshine Coasts marine parks can easily be explored, either by kayak or by small boat. Equally many of the provincial parks can be reached by road. A short drive (20 minutes) in the direction of Powell River puts you in the heart of an interesting freshwater canoeing excursion area on the Powell Lakes: please refer to separately identified web links below.
In discussion with you, we can offer or help you with further options for kayak, boat, and vehicle rental. |
