This charming house was built in 1946, and was completely remodeled in 2010 with a minimalist and clean aesthetic. The kitchen features new marble countertops and maple cabinets, with brand new appliances and utensils. The new European-style bathroom is made of marble and limestone, with a large frosted glass window. A cozy reading room with leather chairs, wood stove and brick floors is the perfect place to relax. The bedroom is nicely furnished with Mission style furniture. New windows, a brand new heating system, and new hot water heater have been installed. There are beautiful beam ceilings (vigas and latillas) throughout the home.

The house was restored by two artists/gallery owners, and is tastefully decorated. We are well-informed about the Santa Fe art scene, and will gladly help guests navigate the area - upon request.

French doors in the dining room open onto the large backyard (1/6 of an acre), which has apricot and apple trees. The backyard is entirely fenced in, so this is a great rental for a well-behaved dog. The property is in a quiet, friendly neighborhood, near the local organic food-coop, and within easy walking distance to the Santa Fe plaza and Santa Fe railyard arts and shopping district.

There is a detached studio for possible inclusion with longer term rental, at an additional cost.

We came to Santa Fe to escape the summer heat in Palm Springs, CA. Because we have two small dogs, we did not want a condo. We found this great single family property with a huge back yard that was perfect for us and the dogs. This house is in an older, established neighborhood very close to the center of town. The neighbors are friendly and welcoming. The location was perfect for us - close to the action but far enough away to ensure peace and quiet. A drive of 5 minutes or less gets you to the Railyard (farmers markets on Tuesdays and Saturdays), the Plaza (Indian jewelry everyday), Trader Joes, Walgreen's, Whole foods, and more great dining places than you can immagine. We even extended our stay by another 3 weeks. The house is very comfortable and has a brand new kitchen with new appliances, a brand new bath, and a brand new washer and dryer. The owners, Mark and Betsy, are very accommodating. We enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend this charming home to our friends.

Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+.

          Owner info

          Year Purchased: 2007

About the owner: A Boston native, I have lived in New Mexico and operated my own stone business for 35 years. I am a sculptor and stonecarver, and together with my partner, own Rift Gallery, a well-respected contemporary art gallery in northern New Mexico. My partner is a ceramist who studied her art in Japan for five years, and we live with our dogs and a turtle in a small rural area in the mountains northeast of Santa Fe. Every summer for eleven years we have also hosted stonecarving workshops, inviting the best stonecarvers and sculptors in the world to teach intensive 7 day classes. This property had a single owner since 1964, and over the past three years we have remodeled it with great care and attention to detail.

          Why the Owner Chose Railyard:
We bought this house with an idea of remodeling it and using it as a 'vacation' home on occasion, since we live about an hour away in a very remote area north of Santa Fe. The location is excellent, within walking distance of everything, so it is extremely convenient. While the house is very near to downtown, it is also in a quiet well-established neighborhood, with friendly neighbors on a quiet street.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The large fenced-in backyard provides both privacy and a wonderful sense of openness. The serene decor (linen curtains, mission-style furniture, all-natural materials) is an important feature for those who don't like clutter or 'busy' decor. Everything in the house is new and clean.
