The Hoff House sits just off the square in Stockton, Missouri 30 minutes from Bolivar (great antique shopping) 1 hour north of Springfield, Missouri (and Bass Pro Shop), 1.5 hours from Branson (Silver Dollar City and shows) and 2.5 hours south of Kansas City. The home sits just minutes from one of the top 10 sailing lakes in the country, Stockton Lake. Swimming, fishing, and boating of all kinds are also enjoyed there. The home is within walking distance from restaurants, banks/ATM's, coffee/gift shop, pharmacy, and a health food store.
The Hoff House is the perfect place to return for a BBQ, a game of horseshoes and drinks on the porch after a long day at the lake. It is spacious inside and out. There is ample room on the 2 acres surrounding the home for parking and play. The kitchen, dining room and living room are open so that the cook in the kitchen can be a part of all the activities. There is a 10 person harvest table in the dining room. There is 1 queen bedroom, 1 king bedroom, and 1 full bath downstairs. Upstairs, there is 1 queen bedroom, 1 bedroom with 1 double bed with 2 twins, 1 king daybed bedroom and another double bedroom upstairs with 2 more full baths. The large masterbath is upstairs and includes 2 pedastal sinks, a jetted hot tub, private toilet and shower. There is also a separate sitting area upstairs. There is an upper deck, a porch (great for coffee in the morning) and another deck with picnic table on the backside of the home overlooking a large grassy area. It's a wonderful place to sit and relax with friends and family.
Because of the spaciousness of the home the Hoff House has become a favorite destination for reunions, anniversaries, retreats, and annual family events. It's close proximity to the lake offers fisherman and boaters a home away from home.
The Hoff House is a historical Civil War era home totally remodeled in 2003. Many of the original attributes of the home have been maintained in the remodel. The original staircase and parts of the wood pinned framing are still integral parts of the home. The harvest table for 10 was built using wood from the original home. Wood from the original home was also used create ceiling beams giving the home a warm, inviting feel.
The Hoff House and the place that it resides offers a reminder of a time when things didn't move so fast and family and friends and the laughter that they bring were the entertainment.

The Hoff House was family central for a recent gathering. Lots of space for children and adults to spread out - it was extra hot and w/ drought conditions so we didn't spend much time outside -- but plenty of space there if the weather had coordinated. Beds were comfortable, kitchen better stocked than many, all in all a great value. Stairs to upstairs are steep by today's standards -- frail and/or elderly would likely find them challenging.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers.

My family and I loved the history and character of this home. It has a lot of space. It maintains the unique look of an 1850's home with updated amenities. It is super close to Stockton Lake which we went to for boating and swimming. I would recommend it for a large group or big family.Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My family and my siblings' families have an annual adventure during spring break. This year we chose southwest Missouri as our destination and stumbled across the Hoff House listing in our attempt to avoid all things "Branson." What a serendipitous stumbling. We loved everything about the Hoff House. My 13 year old niece said so simply how everyone felt, "This place feels like home." We all felt that which is saying a lot. We have 3 teenage girls and 2 small boys in 3 families. We had plenty of room to spread out and get ready everyday. I cannot recommend this place enough.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.

We absolutely loved the house and everything in it!! It was decorated beautifully and especially liked the plaques and pictures giving the history of the house and it's former owners. Your family is to be commended for preserving such a great, old house and for sharing it with us. It is a great place to hold a family get together and we look forward to renting it again in the future.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised to find the house "just what we needed." There was ample space to fit all 18 of us - four families - 8 adults and 10 kids ranging in age from 4 weeks to 12 years old (there were 3 three year olds and one four year old). The house was clean, beautifully arranged. I loved the little "touches" around the house like the antique sled, pitchers, pictures, quilts, as well the the "modern" touches. The washer and drying was definitely a much used item, as well as the waffle iron, and the 3 bathrooms. All the towels, and kitchen utensils were a great help!!! We thoroughly enjoyed Stockton lake, we went to the beach almost daily, and my son in law and grandchildren went fishing "a lot"! We were very sad to leave. The Hoff House defiantly felt like "home away from home"Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our family from Dallas, California and Kansas City met at the Hoff House for the Thanksgiving holiday this past year. Our home was not large enough to accomodate our bunch and we were delighted with the spaciousness of the home and the items available so that it was so little trouble to have our dinner prepared and served at the harvest table. My family was delighted and we are looking forward to possibly getting together this summer for some lake activities and are talking about renting a pontoon boat for our group. The house was super clean and I look longingly at it as I drive by but am looking forward to our next visit.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+.

The Hoff House is truly one of the most unique and interesting vacation homes I have ever seen. The rustic yet comfortable feel takes you back in time, and at the same time makes you feel right at home. All the space makes it perfect for family gatherings, but the amenities (jetted tub, cozy rooms) also make it ideal for a romantic getaway for the adults. In fact, with two floors, mom and dad can have the romantic getaway upstairs, while grandma and the kids have the family gathering down! Everything was clean, neat, and orderly, and the perfect mix of escape form city life and comfortable country living. The house is far enough off the street, and the town small enough, that you can feel private, but you are just minutes away from a premier sailing lake (not to mention fishing, tubing, skiing, caving, and more). Be sure to check out Bongo's Italian restaurant. I would unreservedly recommend this place to any and all looking to take an unforgettable vacation.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

We have had the pleasure of staying in the Hoff House on multiple occasions while visiting our American relatives in the Ozarks. We are always delighted by the country charm of the home and the decor gives the spacious home a welcoming cozy feel which appeals so much to our English taste. We thoroughly recommend this house as a home away from home for a week retreat or a home away from home when visiting the lake, friends or family. It's always tidy, cheery and has all the amenities you would need to self cater. Cheers to the Mitchels for always making us feel welcome and providing such a perfect place to reconnect with the Ozarks on our yearly holiday. Cheerio!
