Setting: Our heaven on the Bay
If you have not experienced the Cape Cod Bay during its changes of tide, it is hard to describe how enchanting it is. At high tide, the waves lap against the sand, like the ocean but more gentle and much warmer! As the tide recedes, the sand flats grow, with rippled patterns and tidal pools that reflect the sun's changing colors. Clamming, kite-flying and all manner of beach sports replace water sports for those hours each day, and families walk end to end or straight out to the sea, savoring the expanse of beautiful shapes and colors. You can experience all of this either down on the Bay (via your own beach stairs) or from the vantage point of your breezy deck. There is so much to do in the surrounding area - but you may be content to stay right where you are!
One more obvious and important feature: you are surrounded by freshwater ponds on the Cape - you can explore the hidden jewels in the woods or go 1/4-mile down the road to the large pond beach facility at Wiley Park, which includes a dock, lifeguards, a playground and bathhouse.
Green building - the start of a new era
Our family has summered on the Cape for 2 decades. When it came to replacing our charming old shack with a new home, one to which we can retire someday, we thought long and hard about the effect we wanted to have. We treasure the fragile Cape eco-system - so we used a geothermal heat pump and radiant water floor heat, Eucalyptus floors (a quick-growing tree similar in impact to bamboo - but a lot prettier!), dual-flush toilets, and solar panels that collect electricity and send it back into the local grid. We recognized that our spot high on the bluff gets a constant breeze, so AC was not needed, but our "air conditioning" is natural ventilation: high-powered fans in every room sucks hot air up and out the carefully engineered high windows, creating an airy circulation and saving energy! We have also entered into a 3-year coastal bank restoration project by removing invasive plants and replacing them gradually with native species. You will not find a more comfortable and stunning house anywhere - but you will also have the satisfaction of knowing that your 'footprint' has been greatly reduced by the green components of this vacation home.

This is one of the only places in the world where you can use the wide sand beach for soccer, clamming and kite-flying - then a few hours later, warm-water swimming and boating: the tides go out nearly a full mile twice each day, creating the world's biggest playground (and amazing sunsets)!
Nearby, the famous Cape Cod "ponds" (small freshwater lakes) provide an alternative swimming opportunity and a cool place in the woods on warmer days.
There are no words to describe the colors and atmosphere of Cape Cod: you simply have to visit it to understand - and to fall in love!
And only 30 minutes away is Provincetown - with its crazy nightlife, festivals, body art, galleries, restaurants, theatre, and unique local flavor. A town that never sleeps!

About the owner: We are dedicated public servants who work very hard, 5 children and 4 grandchildren (so far!) between us. So when we need to get away, we get AWAY! Here we can be in a very private spot, surrounded by nature's best, easy to get to from airports, and within reach of all amenities one would need or want, including a major city full of cultural opportunities, just 1.5 hours away.
Why the Owner Chose Eastham:
Our family has vacationed on Cape Cod for 20 years, and purchased a run-down shack on this perfect piece of land. In 2009-2010, we recreated the house, transforming it into a modern, green, clean, bright haven for our souls. This home will be our retirement home, so it has been built with an eye for every detail. Our Cape Cod spot is secluded and peaceful, while still being in easy access of shopping, socializing, night life in P-town, and even an easy drive to Boston when we crave the city.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
It is simply the most beautiful spot on earth. Comfortable, easy, never too hot, and becoming a gathering place for our growing family, which is all we can ask for!
