Newport apartment description
HEART OF NEWPORT. WALK TO THE BAYFRONT.
We have two apartments. Both have two bedrooms. The suites include laundry facilities and fully functional kitchens and living areas. The larger unit has a view of the bay, while the smaller unit walks out into a beautiful garden.
The units are beautiful and comfy. Hayward House is a perfect getaway. NOAA travelers welcome, just 5 minutes across the bay. It is located right above Yaquina Bay in Newport, Oregon, in a very private home on a quiet nature space, complete with trickling stream. Dine and shop on the bay front boardwalk - sit by the green space or fireplace and relax with a book - watch the spectacular sunset over the bay and bridge from the shared upper deck while the boats sail in and out of the bay.
Lots of festivals throughout the year, come for the fun.

Very Helpful and Welcoming!
Very Helpful and Welcoming!
Our stay at the Hayward House was very nice. We had 6 people staying in the small apartment, which was more than they usually have, but it worked out great. Suzanne and Joe are personable and have a wealth of information about the ins and outs of Newport. The apartment was very clean and well stocked. The one downside about the small apartment (downstairs) is that there isn't a view of the bay, while there is from the large apartment (upstairs). We recommend staying there!

Owner response: It was lovely having you all and so glad it worked out for you. Thank you for your wonderful comments, and yes, view from the larger apartment is the best! Please come again. Suzanne
We were made to believe from a previous review that this was family friendly, however, it was made clear to us through e-mail and when we met the owners that they do NOT usually allow kids and had made an exception! The location is good in terms of close proximity to Yaquina Bay and shopping/dining, HOWEVER it is down (and therefore up on the way back) a VERY steep hill. We also found it tedious and difficult to get out when we were driving, to get onto the main rd was not easy. We did not feel it was very private (you have to walk past their office window to get to the door of the suite), also, we could hear their discussions and movement around upstairs very clearly. This made us feel like we had to keep our (young) children quiet, not very relaxing! It is also quite dark as there is a huge deck the whole length of the floor above. It sleeps 4 and yet there were only 3 bar stools around the kitchen counter/bar, I am assuming it is therefore mainly geared up for summer rentals when renters can eat outside on the bench? It could do with a small table and chairs in the main living area. The grandfather clock, which chimed loudly every hour between about 8am and 10pm was very annoying! I agree with the previous review that the entrance through the shower/utility room is not great, difficult to all get our shoes off and bags in. The suite was well stocked in terms of towels/bedding/cooking utensils etc and it was VERY clean. Overall, I would recommend it for a couple without kids or group of friends wanting a base to explore the local area.

Owner response: It is with disappointment that we read this review from our guests. We strive very hard to please everyone to the best of our abilities. Our website though, states that it is not suitable for children due to the adjacent green-space, nearby creek, hot tub and as well as the glass art and antique furnishings in the unit. We repeat that to the people who still inquire and have children. Sometimes we agree to having children in the unit after talking with the parents, as some children are old enough and can be properly supervised. There is a walkway alongside the home to the private entrance which might seem steep if one wants to think so; we have had many seniors stay with us (one was over 70 years) and this is the first complaint about this. There is also a large deck, the one that is used for viewing the bridge and bay! There is an office adjacent to the unit that we use for a day or two around the end of the month but we never used it when our guests were here. We have a no shoe policy for the unit and it is easiest to go thru the bathroom when coming and going. The sound of people between the units is no more than what might be encountered in any condo situation (muted and distant). We have more stools, they just need to ask (they were in the storage room next to them). We tell everyone that if they need anything just to ask. I think the biggest disappointment for our guests was the weather. It was near 100 degrees inland a few miles away, but socked in with fog here at the coast for most of their stay. From what I could tell (as I only saw our guests when they arrived and left) they stayed mostly indoors with the blinds closed. We have had wedding groups, musician families, reunions and anniversaries and all these parties thoroughly enjoyed our place. In our phone conversations leading up to this rental, they were persistent and also unable to find other accommodations (it gets busy here in the summer). We tried to please these guests by renting to them when we shouldn't have even though they assured us everything would be fine for them. They were very quiet and left the place clean (except for the hot tub which might have been used as a bath tub). As far as their driving abilities, I can not help them if they had trouble getting out onto the main road. I am at a loss here as to this, and how to help. We shouldn't have rented to them, so due to this we will no longer consider anyone with children under 16 years.
Our family of five, with three small children, recently stayed at the Hayward House. We visited on vacation and preview the community in consideration of relocating. Joe and Suzanne did an excellent job of ensuring our comfort during our stay. They are great company when you want it and quiet neighbors when you don't. The furnishings were all very nice, with comfortable seating, beds, linens, and a functional kitchen with everything you need. The yard is very well kept with some amazing flowers and open spaces for the kids to play. The stream next to the yard creates a nice green space and natural background, giving you a feeling of quiet seclusion in the middle of town. Our young kids did well playing here, but we did keep a close eye on them with the proximity of the stream and steep hill. The only difficult aspect of our stay was that the only door with a key led through the bathroom/mudroom area. With five of us, this could be cramped space when removing shoes and carrying in bags. Because Joe and Suzanne have converted a portion of their home for vacation rental, they are the only neighbors, and the appartment is entirely secure. We really enjoyed getting to know them, and they are very friendly and respectful. For especially private people, this may feel awkward. But enjoy it! The company is great, and the local knowledge can't be beat when you need a pointer on where to shop, eat, or relax. Our stay included Independence Day and we can confirm that the view of fireworks over the bay is quite good. The few trees in the back create a "frame" for the scene with a great view to the show. We walked to the bay front for shopping and dining. The hill down the the water is a great workout, not too long and just steep enough to get you breathing deep. The hot tub is very clean and was a welcome escape after the kids went to bed. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return to Newport again soon. We will definitely be looking for available time at the Hayward House. Thanks Joe and Suzanne!

Lovely home in quiet neighborhood with a view of the bay...
We traveled to Newport to find a new home, having recently sold our home in CA. We stayed 2 weeks at Hayward House and enjoyed every minute. It was like staying with family without the problems. Joe and Suzanne have lovingly restored and rejuvenated their large sprawling home overlooking Yaquina Bay. Everything you could want. Squeaky clean, modern kitchen appliances, towels, linens all first rate. Lovely master bedroom with a comfy queen bed and plenty of closet space. Private entry with a large hot tub right outside your door. The home is located in a residential neighborhood in a "green belt"..you are surrounded by nature including a babbling creek, lots of flowers and birds...very, very relaxing. This is not a property for young children because of the terrain and unfenced yard. Teens would enjoy it. Cable TV is included and there are all the board games you could want. But, there is so much to do in Newport and the surrounding area, that you will want to be out and about most of the time you are there.
