Lovely 17th Century Townhouse in the Historic Centre of Uzes

'Maison Sept' is a spacious early 17th century French townhouse, located in the historic centre of Uzès. It is approximately 100 steps to the Place aux Herbes, the lively central hub of Uzès – a beautiful large square filled with plane trees, a fountain and wonderful shops and outdoor cafes. It is also the location of the twice weekly morning market where you can stock up on local produce, cheeses, meats, flowers, spices, and regional crafts.
Maison Sept is located on a narrow, cobbled medieval street, lined with town houses on both sides. There is an art gallery and an antiques shop right across the street, and just a few doors down, a bakery - essential for those morning croissants. Two doors down on our side is a lovely inn with a wonderful restaurant.
You can enter Maison Sept through two doorways, one directly into the kitchen, a typical south of France entrance, and the other into a foyer at the side of the house. The house dates from the very beginning of the 17th century. Over the years it has been an inn twice, and has housed amongst its various occupants, a notary, a doctor and a maker of stockings. It has been expanded over the centuries and has been meticulously restored, combining ancient details with all the modern conveniences. It is an extremely comfortable and easy house to live in.
The kitchen is well stocked and modern, and contains all the requirements, whether you like to just make coffee, or cook elaborate gourmet meals. There is a gas cook top, electric wall oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave oven, blender and food processor, nice stainless steel All Clad cookware and several types of coffee makers (we know what’s important!).
At the back of the house, the living room opens onto a private walled terrace. It is cool and shady in the heat of summer, a private oasis where you can have breakfast or a lovely al fresco dinner.
An ancient stone spiral staircase winds its way through the 4 stories of the house. There are four bedrooms, two with queen beds, one with a double bed, and one with a pair of twin beds. The beds are extremely comfortable, and the rooms are furnished with French antiques and antique tribal carpets. Two of the bedrooms have balconies that open onto the courtyard below. There are two full bathrooms and a powder room.
On the third floor you can unwind in the family room, equipped with internet TV and DVD player. Off this room is a mezzanine that serves as an office and is set up with wireless Internet. You have use of the full laundry room, with both a washer and dryer. You are welcome to use the unlimited long distance telephone service to many countries worldwide.
Uzes is a beautiful, magical town to explore and enjoy. It is also a wonderful base from which to explore the region. There are many wonderful Languedoc and Provence destinations within a short day trip drive.

Two friends and I just returned from a week at Maison Sept, and it's hard to add anything new to the wonderful and thorough reviews already written. However, I do want to say that Maison Sept and its owners certainly live up to the excellent reviews, and the house was even nicer than we had anticipated. It's a beautifully decorated yet comfortable house in a charming little town, and a week's visit does not do it justice. We were torn between wanting to tour the area and just lingering in the Maison with a loaf of bread, great cheese, and the wonderful rose wines of the region. The wheels are already turning for a longer return visit next year with family!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: So happy that you were pleased with your stay. We hope that you will make another trip to Uzes with your family! We find new things to do every time we come, and the town is always changing.

We stayed at Maison Sept last summer, and had an absolutely fantastic time. The house was spacious, comfortable, clean, and beautifully decorated. The large kitchen was loaded with every utensil and appliance we needed to prepare scrumptious meals from local food, and all amenities in the rest of the house (e.g. washer, internet, phone, etc.) worked perfectly. Any questions about the house or travel in the vicinity were promptly answered by Suzy, the property manager. She was extremely warm and approachable, and was of great help in orienting us to the area. We loved our quieter days spent roaming the shops, galleries, cafes, restaurants and historical sites of Uzes, and we equally enjoyed travelling to many of the lovely local towns and villages. Some of our favourite places included Roussillon, Arles and Les Baux. We recommend kayaking to the Pont du Gard in summer, as this was an absolute highlight for us, and it is only about a 20 minute drive from Uzes! Other nearby attractions that we discovered included the majestic town of Lussan, and the gorgeous pottery of Saint Quentin la Potterie. We took a wine tour in Gigondas which was outstanding. We would highly recommend Maison Sept and the town of Uzes to anyone wanting to feel pampered in the south of France!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: So happy that you enjoyed your stay. Suzy, our wonderful manager, is one of the great perks of staying at Maison Sept! Hope you can come again Sara!

A great Christmas house
A great Christmas house

We came here for Christmas this year and it was exactly as we’d hoped. The house made for a perfect Christmas house – warm and cosy and full of character. The owners had very kindly left us a tree, which really added to the festive feel. We loved being just a hop from the central square and its apparently endless Christmas market. The weather was perfect – crisp and clear and barely a drop of rain. The house was fabulous – well-furnished and equipped, but its real beauty was the location. It was slap-bang in the middle of Uzes, with all its lovely shops and restaurants. There was a baker’s shop almost on the doorstep and gorgeous country walks down by the aqueduct. I would recommend it unreservedly, except that we’d love to come again and don’t want too much competition!Owner response: So glad you had a great time! We have never been to Uzes for Christmas ourselves, but it seems like it would be a great place for the holidays. Someday...

As someone who spends most of their time traveling to large cities, and staying at large hotels, this find was absolutely wonderful. Beginning with the idyllic entrance to the town, to the fabled streets leading to the home, was only surpassed by actually entering Maison Sept. The home had authentic historic French charm, with all the modern amenities of today. All rooms were beautifully designed, from the comfort of the living spaces, to the privacy of the bedrooms, to being able to enjoy the serenity of the region on the back patio. I was fortunate enough to meet the owners Natalka and Todd when I was there, resulting in unexpected pleasures in terms of their personal restaurant and tourist site recommendations. From leisurely strolls through Uzes, to easily reachable day trips, this is definitely the type of place where you can be as busy, or as laid-back as you would like. I truly had an exceptional time (and can’t wait to visit again!).Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Dear JBA, it was a lot of fun to meet up with you in Uzes, and introduce you to all the places we love. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay, and hope it will be the first of many!

This is a fabulous home in Uzes with lovely furnishings and everything we needed for comfort and relaxation. We met the property manager (lovely Suzie) in the town square and walked 3 minutes to the door where there was a bottle of wine, cheese, baguette, olives, and cherries and lovely fresh flowers to welcome us. We couldn't have aked for a more beautiful home or area. We wish we could bring Maison Sept back home with us. It was truly outstanding. The pictures really don't do the home justice. We loved everything. We stayed in five different places in Europe with our family of six and this was by far our favorite rental. Thank you so much Natalka and Todd. Absolutely perfect!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay at our home! We have had so much fun setting up Maison Sept, and it is a real pleasure to share the experience of living there with our guests.

Our family had passed though Uzes a few years ago and were charmed by it - so were looking forward to exploring it over a week in April. Maison Sept is perfectly located on a quiet pedestrian street near the centre of Uzes. Everything is an easy stroll from the house - we came back from both the Saturday and Wednesday markets with baskets full of great local produce. We felt like we belonged here - people in the town were so friendly and nice - and patient with our limited fractured French. The house itself has been carefully restored so it has all the charm of the past along with a modern fully-equipped kitchen and bathrooms. It even has a castle-like spiral stone staircase! It's decorated with both antiques and modern furniture and has a stylish, relaxed homey-feel. We used Uzes as a home base and took day trips to Montpellier, Avignon, Provence, Bezier and Isle Sur Le Sorge in Provence. We needed the electronic remote control to open the car barrier at the top of the street to drop off our bags right at the front door - and then parked our car in free spaces around the corner, and never had a problem finding one. We loved our home away from home in Uzes!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Uzes and Maison Sept. Those are all the things we love when we stay there too!

We decided to buy our home in Uzes because we fell in love with the town on one of our antiques sourcing trips and knew we had to spend as much time here as possible.
