Escape to Nature and Peace!

We built this home as our retreat--a place where two executives could quiet their minds and relax together. A place for our two college students to get away from academic & social pressures and be at one again with nature. This home was built for you too. When you arrive at nearly 3,000 feet above the sea, you smell the clear pine-filled air. You hear the mountain stream that runs on the side of our property. You see forests of hemlock and the surround of rhododendron that envelopes the home. You feel the whispering wind that starts high in the trees and becomes a part of you. If you love privacy & quiet as much as the outdoors, stay. Rewind and restore.
When entering Whisper Lake, you are greeted with a long, picturesque, winding drive over the Horsepasture River and up into the mountains. Our home is located on a quiet cul-de-sac and was built with excellence in mind. It is warm and inviting--filled with luxurious amenities, comfortable places to settle, and accented with rustic, one-of-a-kind furnishings, cabinetry and unique Appalachian artwork. It has an open floor plan to assure mingling, yet many places that offer seclusion--each with scenes of nature filling the rooms.
Walnut floors, pine walls & ceilings, expansive windows, natural stone and granite bring the richness of nature in. A wood burning fireplace warms you in the living area, a gas fireplace adds romance and warmth in the master suite. Views of the mountains in both the master and guest rooms soothe you at night and help you awaken in the morning. Each room is decorated with deluxe fabrics and have extremely comforting beds. The young at heart will enjoy any of the three beds in the bunk room with tranquil forest views. And, if you can't let go, there are TVs with DVDs in each bedroom and the living room, plus internet/wireless access with a desk to support your work.
Outside, the deck runs the length of the house with access from the master, living room and guest room. It has a large portion covered, with sturdy hand-made sassafras furniture, and is a place to stare at nothing or to finish a book. Coffee, cocktails, snacks or meals are only enhanced when attached to the mountain air and the view from this deck. Whether the sun is shining or the rain is dripping, this will be your favorite place!
There are so many places to explore, hills to walk, close access to state parks, waterfalls, the Blue Ridge Highway, Cashiers, Highlands, Asheville and more. Golf, tennis courses and riding trails are in abundance and surround Sapphire Valley. You will not be disappointed if you stay at our mountain retreat. You will go home both relaxed and refreshed!

Beautifully appointed! Our third time staying here. Come with family (six of us). Love the fireplace and porch. Like cooking out on porch and going out there early in morning with our coffee. Love master bedroom and shower. Owners always have the house ready for us. We will continue spending our mountain fall get away here.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Our family chose to spend Thanksgiving 2011 at this house. I can' t begin to tell you how great it was to deal with the owners. They were very easy to deal with answered emails promptly. It's obvious the moment you enter the home, that this is truly a home, NOT your ordinary rental. Everything was top notch, including the furniture. We had everything we wanted and truly enjoyed our stay!! If you are looking for a home that is a cut above the rest - look no further!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, people with disabilities.

My family and I ventured to the North Carolina Mountains to view the beautiful fall colors. Our stay could not have been any better. Our accomodations at the mountain home were spectacular! The home is nestled in the Sapphire Valley region just outside of Cashier's. What a great area, what a great view, what a great home. The home is very classy and upscale. Great bunk-bed room for our boys and a huge master suite for mom and dad. You are just 10 minutes from Cashier's and about 25 minutes to Highlands. There is great hiking, beautiful waterfalls, wonderful lakes and great weather. Highlands has great shops food and fun. Your time will fly by because of all the adventures you will have. Kristin (the owner) is fantastic to work with. Anything you need is there. This home is now saved on the favorites on my computer and we plan on returning as soon as possible. If you are looking for a fantastic getaway, look no further, this is the place you have been looking for. Book you stay and start planning, its well worth it!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My husband and I just spent a week in this wonderful home, enjoying the local waterfalls. This home was very comfortable and has everything you'd need to enjoy a relaxing vacation in the NC mountains. The kitchen was well appointed and the furnishings were very comfortable. The large back deck was great for enjoying the cooler mountain mornings and evenings. While visiting the area, we enjoyed not only hiking in search of waterfalls, but enjoyed dining at the restaurants around the area. Our favorites in Cashiers were The Orchard (for a nice dinner) and Cornucopia (for a fun outdoor eating experience). Also don't miss the great cheese selection at the market at Cornucopia. In Highlands, we enjoyed the Oak Street Cafe. We would recommend this home and area for anyone looking to relax in the mountains and take in the beautiful views.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

My wife and I spent a week here in mid-June. Coming from hot and humid Atlanta, the weather in Cashiers (highs in the 70s) was a delightful relief. The house has a spacious back deck with a beautiful view that is perfect for relaxing with a good book or enjoying a picnic. Grab an early evening cocktail and enjoy a gorgeous sunset while reveling in the peace and quiet. Inside, the house is spacious and comfortable. Loved the whimsical decorating that fit perfectly with the theme of a nature retreat. The owners have thoughtfully provided just about everything you could need for a vacation trip. There is a fully stocked kitchen, washer and dryer, jetted bathroom tub, and even a Wi-Fi connection. In terms of access to outside amenities, the house is in a great location. There are several good places for hiking and waterfall viewing nearby. For those looking for a somewhat challenging 3 mile hike, I suggest the Rainbow Falls trail in Gorges State Park (about 10-15 minutes away). There are several excellent restaurants in nearby Cashiers. And yes, the wood-fired pizza at Sapphire Mountain Brewery is that good. There is also a very nice Ingles shopping center for all your grocery needs. By the end of our stay, we really didn’t want to leave and would definitely stay here again on our next visit to the area.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

We spent a few days in this lovely home and found it a delightful get-away. The home is spotless, warm, inviting, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The owner was very helpful to point out nearby walking/hiking spots, restaurants, shopping, and could not have been more hospitable! They asked what we were interested in doing in our time in the area and we could not have had a better time. Our time here rejuvenated us to return to our home and jobs renewed and refreshed. We look forward to a return visit!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, people with disabilities.

Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: We are a family of four--all hectically involved with daily life in the Atlanta area. The mountains are the best fix we've found that forces us to slow down!
Why the Owner Chose Cashiers:
We left the Midwest for the sunny south and from our venturing, soon fell in love with the North Carolina mountains. We decided to start from scratch rather than purchase a finished home, working with a builder who desired perfection and uniqueness as much as we did. The tranquility is all we need. The access to the Blue Ridge mountain vistas, shops, restaurants, golfing, scenic day trips, hiking, local artistry and the sweet, honest mountain personalities are all perks we've come to depend on.
