Owl's Head house description
A stay at Schooners Landing will surely make your vacation one of your most memorable. Located on over five private acres with 300 feet of shore frontage in the charming village of Owls Head, just minutes from Camden, Rockport, Rockland, museums, shops, restaurants and lighthouses, our home affords you a perfect destination for a family gathering or a get together of friends. With three levels, everyone can have their own space yet share memories laughing and visiting together. There are water and lighthouse views from every room.
Enjoy the many summer festivals or come for the 4th of July and sit on the deck and take in the fireworks going off over the harbor!
The house, completed less than 10 years ago, is classic shingle-style architecture with three stories containing approximately 5,500 square feet of living space with large oversized rooms. Windows and decks take in the spectacular sunrises, passing sail boats, lobster boats pulling up their traps just off the front deck and lighthouses. Rockland harbor to the north is home to the country's largest fleet of tall masted sailing ships and many pass by the house each day. The house sits at the end of a 750 foot long driveway. A small stream runs year round through the property through evergreens and apple trees. The house is private yet not isolated. You enter through an antique leaded glass and oak door and as you stand in the large entryway, to your left through double glass doors is the formal dining room with seating for eight with a side door to a pantry area and the kitchen. The library/den is on your right. Straight ahead is the kitchen with a large eating area, granite tile counter tops, sitting area, television, gas log stove with antique oak mantle, side-by-side refrigerator, dishwasher, five burner gas cooktop, electric convection oven, instant hot water dispenser, KitchenAid mixer, over 50 cookbooks, microwave, small wine refrigerator, lobster pots, etc. and everything else you need to cook a gourmet meal, a curved window looking out over the lawn to the water, and a six foot round table from Windsor Chairmakers in Lincolnville, Maine. Also straight ahead on the main floor is the living room with an antique marble fireplace, writing desk, two large couches, brass telescope and sliding doors out to the curved 40 foot wide deck with great views of the Rockland breakwater and lighthouse, Seal Rock and Penobscot Bay. Also on the main floor is the master bedroom. It has a king size bed, sitting area with upholstered rockers, windows on three sides with wonderful views of the water, two walk in closets and two baths; one with a Jacuzzi tub, the other with a steam shower. Also on the main floor is the laundry area, the library/den with oak bookcases, desk, printer/fax and a couch to sit back on and look out over the water and enjoy a good book. There are over 650 books at the house.
The second floor has two oversize bedrooms and a large sitting area with large television, VCR, DVD player and book case. Each bedroom has a king bed and a twin bed. Each bedroom also has its own bath with marble floors and oversized marble showers. Both bedrooms and the sitting area have lighthouse and water views. The second floor also has two decks, one with ocean views and one facing west with a seating area perfect for sunbathing in the afternoon or watching the sunsets.
The lower level has a fourth bedroom with a king size four poster bed and built in bookcase with television, DVD, VCR and stereo and windows all with water views, a large game room with pool table, Foosball table, antique bar, mini refrigerator, futon, two arcade games, round table for playing cards or doing puzzles, bookcase, electric fireplace, stereo and plenty of windows with water views and a double glass door opening to a stone patio with a swing and plenty of seating. Also in the lower level is our lodge room (a replica of a long cabin living room), an acoustically designed home theater with two levels of seating, a 65 inch high definition television with surround sound, DVD player and stereo. Lastly, on this level is a full bath with a two person whirlpool tub with 14 air jets and marble shower with a rain shower.
Enjoy walking along the rocky shore looking for seaglass or launching your kayak. We provide bicycles, golf clubs, fishing poles, tennis rackets and plenty of outdoor games. Enjoy a walk through the grounds or play Frisbee golf on our 9 hole (5 goal) Frisbee golf course. We love children and provide dozens of thing to keep the little ones occupied, such as children's movies, children's books, puzzles, games, toys, etc. If you have infants or toddlers, we provide cribs, a high chair, baby monitor, strollers, playpen, car seat, bed rails, etc.
There is also a caretaker's apartment available above the three car garage for an additional $650 per week. This apartment has a queen size bed, queen size sofa bed, its own small kitchen/eating area and bath. The apartment has two televisions, a stereo and views of the water.

We rented Schooner Landing for a family reunion weekend; including dinner for 22 Saturday night. The house was amazing. The location was spectacular, the house cozy and the rooms beautiful. Everything about the weekend was magical. Even in the middle of a major snowstorm, the house was toasty warm and inviting. The views from every window were incredible. The game room downstairs provided hours of enjoyment for the teenagers and the living room was a great conversation place for adults. The owners were also so easy to talk to and were available all weekend for questions. I would highly recommend renting this house if you're looking for a spectacular spot in mid-coast maine! Schooners Landing - a rare gem
Schooners Landing - a rare gem
Our group of 7 has traveled together far & wide, both in US & abroad, but we all agreed that Schooners Landing surpassed all the rest, by far. We truly appreciated the inherent beauty of the house and location, the wide range of amenities and the superb craftsmanship[ throughout. But the most outstanding feature was the generosity, effort and meticulous attention to detail Paula & Michael have expended in successfully anticipating any and every need or desire of their guests. They are the ultimate hosts - and to have accomplished this in absentia -WOW!! Our only regret was that our stay was limited to just one week. Nonetheless, we were able to make a significant reduction in the local lobster population (the kitchen was well equipped - even to the satisfaction of the professional chef in our group), and dining at Prima was a treat.

This was the most fabulous vacation we have ever experienced. We had the opportunity to spend two weeks with two different groups of our children and grandchildren. Schooners Landing is a beautiful home and contains everything that you could possibly need. We will definitely return in the future.

We are in love with Schooners Landing. Without a doubt this was the finest rental we and 6 friends enjoyed and we have been renting as a group every summer for over 10 years. The house is gorgeous inside and out, the location so beautiful - an incredible view and wonderful ocean breezes. We enjoyed the area’s great attractions: shops, restaurants, ferry rides, Puffin cruises, lobster and great breakfasts at the Owls Head General Store. We had plenty of room in the house and every room was beautiful. The kitchen is fun for group cooking! We will return to Schooners Landing soon. Thanks Paula and Michael for all the many ways you made our stays over the past 2 years memorable.
