'Rocky Top' Log Condo with Views!

If the 'camping' you enjoy most includes plush carpeting, cable TV, full kitchen and a comfortable king sized bed, and if your idea of 'rustic' means a view of majestic mountains out your many-windowed living room, then you will enjoy being a guest at our Rocky Top Vacation Home Rental.
In addition to the above, our modern log housekeeping 'cabin' offers the cozy comfort of all wood interiors and a wood pellet stove. Private BBQ grill and picnic table allows you to enjoy outdoor dining, and gliding cedar porch charis are a comfortable alternative to 'sittin' round a campfire'.
The first floor contains the kitchen, living/dining, bedroom with king bed and bathroom. The upper floor has a bedroom with king bed and another full bathroom.
The kitchen is equipped with full sized electric range, full sized refrigerator, microwave oven, coffe maker, and all the dishes, pots, pans, etc. that you should need. Towels and linens are provided, too. I always tell my guests, if there's something you need that's not there, if I have one, you are welcomed to borrow it. We live right here on the premises, so we are available to take care of your needs.
We have a lovely, private setting, but are still convenient to town, being 1/4 mile north of the town limits - close enough to walk to restaurants and stores, but far enough to be 'away from it all', with the Crystal Lake Trail as close as your back door.
Haven't been to Lake City? Well, if the Colorado vacation you dream about includes a remote, historic mountain town nestled in a valley of breathtaking mountains, clear alpine lakes and gurgling streams, then you won't be disappointed with Lake City. Founded as a mining town in the 1870's, and now a Colorado Historic District, Lake City is considered one of the undiscovered gems of the Rockies. Located at the junction of two scenic byways, it remains surprisingly unspoiled by commercialism and 'glitz'. It is a jeep -lovers and flyfishing-lovers paradise, as well as shops, restaurants, live theater and concerts, museum, and did I mention mountains?? We have 5 '14ers' right here in our county!

Our family has stayed at Rocky Top Lodge for the last six summers and we can't wait to return next year. The condos are well appointed, very comfortable, and are in an absolutely gorgeous mountain setting. The kitchens are completely equipped. The grounds are kept in emaculate condition and huge deer visit regularly. It's a great place to have as home base for all the activities around Lake City. We highly recommend Rocky Top.Recommended for: Families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We came up for a week and brought our daughter and family. It was perfect for 4 adults and 2 kids! Plenty of room, very comfortable beds, sitting areas, and roomy. Best place we have stayed in the mountains and we have been coming to Colorado for over 30 years to fly fish in the summer and fall (and used to come in winter to ski). Could not be better!Recommended for: Girls getaway, people with disabilities, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your kind review. It was a pleasure having you, and will look forward to seeing you again in '13!

Rocky Top has been my family's favorite vacation place for many, many years. The condo is always well maintained, clean and feels like home. The location is convenient and the grounds and views are just beautiful. The owners have become like family and are readily available if you need anything. It is a welcoming, comfortable place to enjoy all the activities of the area - hiking, fishing, four-wheeling, off road adventure or just savoring the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of Colorado. I highly recommend Rocky Top as your vacation home away from home.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, families with teenagers, adventure seekers.

There are many beautiful places to visit in Colorado, but our favorite is Rocky Top Lodge in Lake City. We usually spend a week there each summer to escape the Texas heat. The cool weather, peaceful setting, wonderful sightseeing in the mountains and great trout fishing in the area have a strong pull on us. The units at Rocky Top are very comfortable, spacious, and fully equipped for relaxed living. We especially like sitting and reading on the large covered porch. The owners are very hospitable and helpful in giving information about what to see and do around Lake City. The town is a fun place to shop and the restaurants are very good. We have been coming back to Rocky Top for over 20 years. I especially enjoy the trout fishing and my wife loves to relax and enjoy the area. Our stays there have always an annual highlight for us. We highly recommend Rocky Top Lodge.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We have never wanted to own a vacation home because there are so many places that we want to visit in the US, Canada, and overseas. We rarely return to the same place in consecutive years. However, Rocky Top Lodge is the exception. We have missed only one year since we accidentally found it 15 years ago. Now, a year would seem "broken" without our two weeks in July at Rocky Top. Why is Rocky Top so special? The lodges are very comfortable, exceptionally clean, fully equipped, well maintained, and located in a beautiful and interesting area. Everything is prepared to make our visit memorable. The most special part of our time there is not the facilities or the location, it is our hosts, Bob and Linda Inge. We could write a book on all the ways they have blessed us. They are honest, conscientious, kind, admirable, humorous and loving -- without even trying. It just comes "naturally". Bob is a wise and practical person. We ask his advice before every new activity, place, or situation. Back to the "place". There are many special touches. Linda provides and attends to beautiful flower baskets around the lodge. We enjoy the "wood pellet" heating stove (a picturesque extra because the lodge has very comfortable electric heat). Bob keeps the "grounds" clean and beautiful. We enjoy the front porch, the outdoor grill and picnic table. The Lake City Area is beautiful. Our favorite activity is looking at wild flowers from a rented Jeep. The area is laced with ATV/Jeep "trails". Our favorite areas for flowers are American Basin, Yankee Boy Basin (near Ouray), and the area around Crested Butte -- information is available at tourist offices. The Alpine Loop Jeep trail winds through beautiful 14,000 foot mountains -- the trail itself goes above 13,000 ft. The jeep trails are safe and the views are spectacular. Bob will tell you where to go and how to get there safely. Hunting and fishing are popular. A lot of beautiful scenery is accessible by a standard car. Highway 149 goes south from Lake city, by spectacular Lake San Crystobal, over the continental divide, through high mountain meadows at 10,000 feet, past beautiful Clear Creek falls, with views of the Rio Grande headwaters and Bristol Head's sheer rock cliffs. Route 149 continues south to Creed, an interesting town with old silver mines, spectacular cliffs, arts & crafts, and a summer repertoire theatre. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Blue Mesa lake are 50 miles north of Lake City. Enjoy!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: This is one of the reasons we love doing this - the people! While we don't become fast friends with everyone who stays here - after all, many guests want their privacy and alone time - we enjoy every type of person, and always hope to make everyone welcome and comfortable.

Owner info
About the owner: When we first visited Lake City in 1982, we knew by the end of the week that we wanted to make it our home. Being native Texans, but rarely able to enjoy our beloved Rocky Mountains, we asked the kids, 'how would you like to move to vacation?'. Our oldest was 3 at the time, but already a real adventurer, so no problem there! We didn't know at the time if Bob's paper conservation business would survive the move, so we decided we would not only build a house for ourselves, but would also build for other vacationers like ourselves, who might prefer a nice, modern log vacation home to stay in while enjoying the ruggedness of the mountains. So, the next year found us hammering, sawing, drilling, and freezing, as we built our home and guest cabins, and we've never regretted a minute of it. We hope to provide you with the kind of mountain experience we always enjoyed, and we consider it a privilege to be your hosts during your Lake City stay.
