Property description

This spacious lake front cabin has a beautiful, scenic view of the lake from two decks. Relax in the rockers on front porch from which deer, wild turkey, and raccoons are often spotted. You'll want to spend at least one evening roasting hot dogs and marshmallows around the campfire.

From the private boat dock fish for channel catfish, large mouth bass, crappie, and red ear sunfish. Bring your own boat and park it at the private dock. Or take the rowboat for a leisurely paddle up the cove. We also furnish two kayaks and a pedalboat for your enjoyment. Lake Malone State Park in Western Kentucky is known for its unusual sandstone cliffs.

The interior of the house is trimmed with antique barn wood on all three floors. It has been creatively decorated with antiques, vintage linens, and hand made crafts. A game room is located in the loft with a pool table and 1950's pin ball machine.

During your visit you will want to check out the 'museum' and Santa room located next door to the Stewart House.

The three bedrooms are located on the main floor and two have a breathtaking view from the treetops. Sleep in the Kentucky Room with the authentic Kentucky moonshine still which was raided by the revenuers, Mama's Bedroom, or the Butterfly Room.

Cook your breakfast on the 100-year-old wood cook stove, converted to electric. The lower floor also opens onto a very large tin roof covered deck - you'll be thrilled to see it rain! The den has a large fireplace to warm yourself by if your visit occurs during the cooler season.

All you will need for your visit is your clothes and food. The cabin is well-equipped with supplies. This peaceful, rustic, country cabin is the perfect escape for you and your loved ones.

Lake Malone State Park is a 788-acre lake enclosed by dramatic 50-foot sandstone bluffs rising above the water's edge and surrounded by hardwood forests. The 'easy rated' 1.5 mile Laurel Trail provides views of many rock walls, once used as shelters by Native Americans. The cabin is on the water with great fishing off the dock. The beach is nearby by boat, 1 mile around the lake by car but too rugged to walk the shoreline.

Within a short drive are Jefferson Davis Monument and East Union Quaker settlement. Bowing Green is one hour away with Beech Bend Amusement Park and Raceway, the National Corvette Museum and Lost River. Mamouth Cave is one hour and fifteen minutes away. Nashville, TN is one hour and fifteen minutes away.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2004

About the owner: I retired in 2008 after serving for 20 years as the local Baptist associational secretary. Prior to that I was a real estate salesperson and appraiser for 10 years. My hobbies are going to auctions, antique shops, flea markets and yard sales in hopes of finding a treasure for the Stewart House or our other vacation rental on Lake Malone, Little Cliff Cabin. My husband and I have two rather spoiled 3/4 poodle dogs, Quito and Domingo, from a former exchange student we had from Ecuador. We have 3 sons and 8 grandchildren.

Why the Owner Chose Dunmor:
We are both from Muhlenberg County and when our children left for college our large Victorian home was more than we wanted. We decided to move to Lake Malone State Park because we have always spent so much time relaxing and playing on it. We bought our present home so our children would be on 'vacation' when they came to visit. For about 10 years we got to know Mr. Stewart when he came to work on his vacation home located next door to our home. When he passed away we decided to buy his house and make it a vacation home for others because it would be something to keep us busy during retirement. It works out perfectly because we are available if a problem arises. It is perfect for our large family's Thanksgiving feast with the all night campfire and pig roast. Both houses are full with as many beds as our family and friends need.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Our guests tell me that they love staying at The Stewart House because it is different than their homes. The items filling and decorating the cabin are either old or unusual. It is for the family looking for a place they can get away from it all and enjoy each other's company with the knowledge that sightseeing is only an hour or two away. A great benefit of owning The Stewart House is meeting people from all over the US. We have had visitors from almost every state. People find it is a good meeting place since it is located roughly in the middle of the country. I also get to spend a lot of time searching for that perfect unique item for decorating. I have been told by visitors that they have spent a week and found some unusual item that they had missed. I love the special touches that Mr. Stewart put in it such as the staircase that crosses the windows because he forgot that he had to have a way to get to the top floor and the fact that so many of the construction materials were very old such as windows and the barn wood. It definitely has a personality all its own.
