We stayed at Daebreak for a week and absolutely loved it. The house was more than enough for 2 people, everything was very clean and updated We loved the open concept. Waking up to the sunrise every morning was really nice and having leisurely mornings and breakfast at home was such a treat. The house is located at the end of a road and very private. The ruins behind the house were much more extensive than anticipated and we felt like we were stepping into a different world when we went to explore them. Coral Bay is only a 5min drive away and we loved exploring the east end beaches, hiking and swimming, snorkeling and relaxing. We much appreciated the guides that were available at the house, as well as the beach chairs. We will definitely come back! Thank you very much. Our four night stay at Daebreak was truly amazing. First, Clark and Catherine were really accommodating from the moment we contacted them - they answered our many questions and once we landed in St Thomas, gave us detailed directions on how to get to the house. Clark met us at the house and showed us around to make sure we felt comfortable. Second, the house is gorgeous! The attention to detail in every room is astounding and clearly a lot of love and time has gone into making this an a beautiful property. For us, the bedroom was where we spent most of our time - the exposed wooden ceilings, the skylight, the picture window and the balcony were perfect! We spent four lovely nights there lulled to sleep by the atmospheric and refreshing breeze that blew in threw the windows and door every night. The kitchen is VERY well equipped and we never had to worry about things like salt or olive oil. The finishings on the stove, cabinets etc are to a very high standard and you feel right at home using all the appliances. They really have thought of everything. Clark told us that we should take the garbage out with us everyday and he was right - ants come by the dozens...Overall, the house is super clean, well maintained and beautiful. There are tons of guide books and maps which were indispensable to us! Third, the road to the house...yes, you do need a four wheel drive - its quite bumpy and can be rough in spots, especially if it rains but it is beautiful and the neighbors are friendly and helpful if you need anything. Finally, Daebreak was a little out of our budget but for anyone considering splurging a bit, go for it! It was worth every extra penny we spent over our budget. And we made up for it by eating at home. If you do decide to eat out, check out Aquabistro or Tourist Trap - both were excellent. Coral Bay is the best place to be on the island and we avoided Cruz Bay as much as possible. St John is amazing in general - we highly recommend the walk around Anneburg and Salt Pond Bay - and we cannot wait to come back. We will definitely plan our visit around when Daebreak is available and highly recommend it to anyone considering a stay on this island.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

My husband and I had a great time during our stay at Dae Break. The 2nd floor bedroom was roomy,comfortable and clean. In the morning we enjoyed having our coffee and breakfast on the back deck. It is shaded by a beautiful tree and is very peaceful and relaxing.The house was equipped with all necessities for cooking. Being supplied with good beach chairs was a major plus for me.The showers also had great water pressure. The only downside was climbing the dirt road to the house although I did get used to it. A four wheel drive is a must.The cable service was sufficient,TV's were a little too small,although we did not watch much TV We do plan to return in 2014. The owners did a nice job renovating without taking away from the cottage's character.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

we found everything we could want in this lovely home. the property managers were very firendly and accomodating. everything was exactly as described. widows all around gave us beautiful, refreshing breezes and the wraparound deck is the perfect setting with beautiful views. we enjoyed watching the sunrise from the deck outside of the bedroom and the bed was most comfortable. although 4 wheel drive is a must, the location was perfect - close to our favorite beaches and resturants. we would definately book this house again for our next vacation in st johnOwner response: Danielle, Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful review! The perfect place for a relaxing vacation. We spent 9 nights at Daebreak. Found everything you would possibly need at the house. The outdoors spaces are awesome. Lots of privacy. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway. The outdoor shower is the best and the new deck space is perfect. The Jeep was a good call we had no problem on the road to the house. With so many things to do close by it worked out great. Left each day with the cooler and chairs provided to check out a new beach. Catherine was a great help with any questions we had. It was nice to know she was only a phone call away. Sue and Dave you are so lucky to have such a great place. We had the best vacation at Daebreak. The house is beautiful and the outside shower is amazing. You are close to bars and resturants but far enough away for peace and tranquility. The sounds of the crickets/frogs at night put you to sleep! The house is clean and has everything you can need. We picked up food and cooked breakfast every morning before packing a cooler and heading to the beach for the day! I can't wait to go again, I miss it already!! We enjoyed our stay here at Daebreak immensely!! The house is exactly as pictured here, tastefully decorated and immaculate. We enjoyed the view from the Master every morning with our coffee, and our teenage girls loved that they had Wifi and cable TV, which they couldn't live without. The girls slept on the pull out sofa together but could have easily each had their own space with the futon on the sun porch. We enjoyed the outdoor shower and the new bathroom, and the ruins to explore so close by were really a treat. The wild goats and donkeys visited us so close up...as well as the sugar birds at the feeder! We loved being so close to Skinny Legs and Aqua Bistro, and Love City had all the essentials we needed. The coolers and beach chairs made life so easy, and the beaches here were all spectacular and within 20 minutes drive. We had a 4 wheel drive jeep which we recommend for the dirt road that leads to the property (as well as the steep and curving roads of St John in general). Best Car rental in Cruz Bay was very accommodating. We can't wait to come back again someday!! Thanks for sharing your home, it was lovely.Did you find this review helpful? Our family just returned from 8 blissful days spent at Daebreak. The home was absolutely perfect for us, a family of three. The owners had just completed a new outside bathroom adjacent to the home to go with the outdoor shower. It came in very handy. The property manager was quick to respond to our questions, both initially upon our inquiry, and throughout the rental process ,until our arrival on island. As the sun comes up over the hill that runs down toward Coral Bay, the home is bathed in morning light. The kitchen is great-everything you might need, down to coffee grinder and blender. It was a pleasure to use the kitchen and we ate breakfasts in, on most days. Next to the kitchen is a small living area with a pull out couch. Our 12 year old daughter slept on the pull out quite comfortably, directly under a ceiling fan. She also appreciated the wi-fi. She used her iPod to facetime a donkeys visit to the villa to a friend at home. The upstairs consists of one bedroom and a bathroom. The ceiling is beautifully wood framed and tapers down to the sliding door that leads out to the upstairs deck. The deck is a great place to sit with a drink in the late afternoon, after a day at the beach. The sun slips behind the house and in the afternoon we would sit in the shade, looking into the heart of Coral Bay. In the evenings, the breeze comes through the front of the house through the sliders. The winds can get strong overnight. The downstairs deck wraps around the house and leads to a gas grill that we used as well. The access road to the villa is a dirt road with lots of potholes and rocks, I would recommend a 4WD. You're 20 minutes from the north shore beaches at Maho, or 20 minutes to Salt Pond or the East End. We enjoyed the restaurants in the Coral Bay area. Great burgers at Skinny Legs, breakfast and pizza at Donkey Diner were a favorite. Lunch at Miss Lucy's with friends was a treat, and cold beer at the Tourist Trap after a steamy day at Salt Pond Beach hit the spot. We recommend Shipwreck Landing for a dinner. We didn’t know whether we would like the sleepier side of the island, but it was exactly what we needed. We hope to return in the future. To Coral Bay and to Daebreak. We just returned from spending about 9 days at Daebreak. It was the perfect house for us and had all the ammenities we needed. The outdoor shower was fantastic! We spent our days hiking and snorkeling, renewing and recharging our batteries ( so to speak) and having this house as a base worked out great for us. This was our fourth trip to St John, and our first spending time in Coral Bay. Using this house as a base, we explored much more of the east end of the island, as well as the coral bay/salt pond/lamshur bay area. I'll be recommending this property to friends who will be traveling to the island in the future. I'd also recommend a renting a jeep( awd is needed) and kayaking with Hidden Reef Eco tours. Hidden Reef eco-tours did a fantastic job with our snorkel tour!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

I had the great pleasure of being able to stay at "Daebreak" for the whole month of October and I must say I would have stayed longer if that had been possible. I needed a break from a very busy and hectic life and this was the perfect answer. The house is perfect in every way and the location is just right. It is the last house on the road and sits well above its nearest neighbor which only adds to the privacy of the property. The ruins just above are a great place to visit and if you read some of the history behind the "Great Carolina house" ... well .. one can invision what took place here so many years ago. I came here by myself to relax, rejuvenate, and explore St. John. I must have hiked just about every trail available and went snorkeling at most every bay I could hit. I did some still photography and under water filming. The under water video work has been especially rewarding. Cathy and Clark made sure all my needs were met and went well out of their way to make this "getaway" possible for me. They are truly new friends added to my life and I thank them for all the help. I am looking forward to a return trip sometime next year and would recomend a stay at "Daebreak" for anyone interested in perfection.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

About the owner: David and I found this beautiful island by accident. Our first visit was in 2003, and we never wanted to travel anywhere else. The beaches, snorkeling and hiking were far above our expectations.We are from New England and felt we found our Caribbean paradise.We traveled many times to St John always dreaming someday we could have our own place. David is a general contracter, and when we heard about a small Fixer upper we fell in love. We worked for months renovating the home ourselves with alot of ups and downs.We decided to name our home Daebreak after my mom who recently passed away, her nickname was Dae.Now complete, we are so happy we can now share our home so others can enjoy this beautiful island. It truley is a dream come true!!
