Isla Holbox lodge description
The Holbox Beachfront Lodge is well known to world travelling fly fishermen that pay over $3000 a week to stay at the lodge each summer and fish for Giant Tarpon. While there are still Baby Tarpon in the winter months of October through March, the lodge is also available during these winter months..
Our winter guests seek and find an intimate experience at Isla Holbox. The property will definitely give you your own private lodge feeling. The beach is a few paces from your front door where the warm, shallow, water waits for early morning swims or cooling breaks from the warm Mexican sun. You will be two blocks from the village Zocallo and your westerly beach strolls will be largely alone.
The island is truly captivating and has the opportunity to be one of your favorite warm weather getaways. While the lodge might fill perfectly the needs of some families or groups or reunions, it will be the island that remains in the memories of our visitors.
The lodge is perfect for a Family, or Corporate Group, or Reunion that requires modern accommodations for 6 to 10 people and private gathering venues for discussions, presentations, and just hanging out. The lodge features 5 oceanfront rooms, each with modern bath with tiled showers and 2 comfortable beds. Wi-Fi is available. And an outside shower is available following your swim. The manager can also arrange special anniversary or entertainment events that might fit with your plans. Custom arrivals, departures and adventure activities can be pre booked and co-ordinated by our manager.
All meals will be on your own in the nearby restaurants. There is no kitchen available. The village has a distinctly Italian influence that shows up in many of the restaurants. The dining experience varies from sand floor cantinas to 4 star hotel dining---and everything in between. An average dinner is about $15 to $20. The island has been a fishing village for as long as anyone can remember and thus the seafood bill of fare, led by local Lobster, is excellent. Luciano will help guide you to the best restaurant choices.
Aside from the primary activity of relaxing on the beach, the main adventures of the island are visits to the Flamingo populations of Bird Island, Horseback riding on the beach, Kayaking in the lagoon, Parasailing, Tarpon and Snook Fishing and visits to the nearby Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza and Ek Balam. All of these activities can be pre arranged or co-ordinated for you by Luciano, along with golf cart rental (the only wheeled vehicles legal on the island). We can give you contact numbers for private van service from Cancun or the Cancun Airport.. It is also possible to contract for a private plane to bring you directly from the Cancun airport to the island.
The rate to rent the lodge as described above is $375 per night with 4 nights minimum in the low season (May through November). This charge is for 5 rooms--10 people maximum. the high season rate (June, July, August, September and December is $750 per day for the five rooms. it is possible to rent less than the whole lodge. Rates for the Christmas season (December 15th through January 5th) is $1000 a day for the exclusivbe use of the lodge. Meals are on your own at many restaurant options within a two block beach walk. The local eating experience is considered one of the best features of the island.
To get to the island you can arrange a taxi or van transfer or rent a car which you can safely park at the end of the road in the ferry town of Chiquila. The ferry ticket is $8 and departs every hour for the interesting 30 minute ride to the island. Upon arriving at the island, take a golf cart taxi ($5--the only wheeled vehicles on the island), for the 5 minute ride to the Holbox Fly Fishing Lodge. Luciano will be there to greet you.
