This townhouse was completely remodeled in 2011 and the owner is picky about it being spotless for guests! The Bird's Nest at Summerhouse has it's name from it's location adjacent to Matanzas State Park where the sanderlings nest along with many other sea and shorebirds. The oceanfront sights and sounds and the soothing blues, yellows and whites make for a restful retreat. Take your coffee to the patio and watch the pelicans and dolphins playing in the water, the dune bunnies munching their morning grasses, and the tortoises strutting out onto their sandy porches. After a beachwalk and shelling you can swim in the ocean or the lovely pool or dress and drive into St. Augustine and check out the historic museums or take a trolley ride around town.
The Bird's Nest has lots of details and amenities to be sure you are comfortable. Let us know if you want to fish, play tennis or racquetball so we can provide you with the equipment. The kitchen is fully equipped with attention to detail (the owner is a home economist) and there are lots of extras like nice linens, beach towels and chairs, movies, games and puzzels for your enjoyment. Special robes are provided for guests use.
Plan to relax and enjoy this beautiful setting that is the best of all worlds: near historic St. Augustine, next to a nature rich state park, and looking out to the surf from the Master Suite and over the Intracoastal waterway at the spectacular sunsets from the guest bedroom!
Note that the location is also not far from Marineland (about 2.5 miles) that has afternoon dolphin shows and where the Creature from the Black Lagoon was filmed, The Alligator Farm where birds and alligators gather, Disney is about 1.5 hours away.

This oceanfront condo is on the barrier island to the historical town of St Augustine, Florida, the oldest city in the US. In 20 minutes you are in the old town on the waterfront which has great restaurants, antique shops, the old fort and a fun off and on trolley that you can enjoy while you hear the history of the city.
A variety of cruises are available from the city marina including a pirate ship, sunset or moonlight sails or an educational Ecco tour. Charter sails are also available at Comanche Harbor north of town. Among my favorites is the Sunday Brunch cruise on the Sundancer out of Palm Coast Harbor about 10 minutes south of the condo. This two and a half hour cruise up the intracoastal waterway is relaxing and beautiful with an elegant brunch. Dolphins, Manatees and sea birds follow your journey.
On Anastasia island is miniature golf, bicycle rentals, kayak and canoe rentals, the fishing pier and the famous Alligator farm that now has a zip line over the gators. The natural bird rookery at the farm is amazing and a magnet for photographers.
About 5 miles south of the condo is Washington Garden Oaks State Park, a beautiful botanical garden on the intercostal waterway on one side of A1A and an amazing rock formation nature display on the ocean side. You can take a picnic lunch and eat on tables right on the waterway and enjoy watching dolphins and sometimes manatees playing within 20 feet of you. The rose garden is just one of several areas that you come across on the winding pathways of this lovely tropical garden.
There are 5 golf courses in the area including the World Golf Hall of Fame at World golf Village about 25 minutes from the condo. The 5 story IMAX theater is also there and has movies for adults and kids.
Two large outlet malls on either side of I95 make for a fun day of shopping when you get tired of the sun. These are about 20 minutes away.
Year Purchased: 2010
About the owner: As a retired University of Florida professor I have traveled the world and taught in several other countries as a Fulbright Scholar from the US State Dept. Having walked on many beaches in the world, I continue to marvel at how lovely this place is and find that it always renews the soul. The people of Thailand taught me the most about being a host and making sure that staying with them was a memorable experience. When I purchased this condo in late 2010, I wanted it to be a place that people would love and return to for relaxing vacations, so I've spent a good deal of time thinking about what was needed and how it would be used. I love to walk the beaches and read on the patio and cook up favorite things. I hope you will enjoy this place as much as I have.
Why the Owner Chose Other St. Augustine Beach Properties: When I first saw Summerhouse at the end of Anastasia Island I was fascinated by the garden style property and the wonderful location near the State Park. I love walking around the end of the island with the Atlantic on one side and the quiet mouth of the Matanzas River on the other where all the birds gather. The shelling is great! The garden style property with winter heated pools also attracted me. St. Augustine is also a draw with it's history, art gallerys and lots of music in the local seaside restaurants.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo: Staying at the Bird's Nest means seeing beautiful sunrises over the Atlantic out your bedroom window or from your living room patio, catching big golden moonrises on the full moon, seeing dolphins play in the surf, and enjoying all the amenities of home with a fully equipped kitchen, special linens and even fresh robes for your convenience.
Beach towels and beach chairs are also provided. Movies, puzzles, games and books are in the unit along with DVD player and flat screen TVs. Each of the two bedrooms upstairs has its own bath and the half bath can accomodate those who sleep downstairs on the queen sleeper sofa. There is a desk for your laptop in the living room and another in the guest bedroom. High speed direct wire internet and free local and long distance phone calling is yours to use. One fishing rod and reel is available to the fisherman and tennis racquets to those who request them. Take a bucket and head out to the beach early for the best shelling!
