Location: West Yellowstone, Yellowstone Country, Montana, USA (30 minutes from Yellowstone Park on the Madison River)
Accommodations: Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 1 Bath (Sleeps 5-6)
Keywords: Cabin
This modern cabin has two bedrooms and a loft that comfortably sleeps six.
Located in the Madison valley, it literally looks out over the Madison River and is a short 30-minute drive from Yellowstone National Park. You will feel like the river runs right through the home. Enjoy this unique opportunity to spend time along one of the most famous Blue Ribbon trout rivers in America!
Just five miles from the Rocky Mountain continental divide, enjoy panoramic views of the Madison and Gravelly Mountain Ranges. From the deck you can watch Bald Eagles and Peregrine Falcons diving to rising fish in the river. Observe deer, antelope, elk, moose, Rocky Mountain big horn sheep, and mountain goats in their natural habitat, all within a few minutes of the cabin. Guests can walk out the door and go fishing or floating right from the house on the Madison River.
This cabin is my home-away-from-home and is offered March through November. The home has a tasteful, cozy, western style with beautiful wood walls and cathedral ceilings with large windows to enjoy the stunning views. The grand room features a modern kitchen and a living room with a wood-burning stove. You are welcome to enjoy a collection of my favorite books about fly-fishing and the surrounding area. The two bedrooms with queen-size beds on the main floor have outstanding river and mountain views. A massive ladder staircase leads to a loft with two twin beds that overlook the grand room.
The fully-stocked kitchen with dishwasher, range, microwave, and all necessary cookware is open to the dining area and living room. The dining room table will seat eight. Before dinner enjoy a glass of wine on the deck while watching the sunset on the mountains and the sound of the river in the background.
The deck, overlooking the river, is my favorite spot. Time passes quickly just watching the river sweeping by, seeing large rainbow and brown trout rise to evening hatches. In the morning watch the Peregrine Falcons diving for breakfast while sipping your morning coffee. The deck has a comfortable patio set and gas grill along with a bench and hooks to hang your fishing waders. A fire pit is available off the cabin deck that is great for telling stories around the fire and watching the stars light up the Montana Big Sky.
The cabin is located in the center of designated wilderness areas and national parks. America's first national park, Yellowstone, is 30 short minutes away. In addition to Yellowstone National Park, you will want to take time to explore Teton National Park, the Lewis and Clark Caverns and their historical trail, the traditional old west town of Virginia City, as well as some great local restaurants and old time saloons. I highly recommend the 20-minute drive to the Cliff and Wade Lakes for beautiful scenery, great fly fishing, and hiking. If you are a bird watcher, the Red Rock Conservation Refuge is about 45 minutes from the cabin.

Even if you are not a trout fisherman you will love this place. If you are a trout fisherman you will think you died and gone... Everything was just perfect: location, cleanliness of the cabin, trout fishing library, great sound system, coffee and condiments for your use, great cooking utensils, and wildlife in yard in the early mornings (in our case Pronghorn Antelopes), fishing at the back door (though I must admit we had a very poor week of fishing, and were certainly not alone), EVERYTHING. Gerry obviously knows what vacationers and fishermen are looking for in a trip. The Slide Inn Fly Shop just down the road has stories and gear that you need, plus guide service for those more affluent than my crowd. All in all, the place and the area can't be beat if you are looking for a fun western getaway week or more.

Flies & Lies proved to be the perfect headquarters for our party of 4 flyfishermen, ranging in age from 48 to 64. Centrally located to all the waters we wanted to fish, with the added benefit of stalking the evening rise just steps away from the cabin! Beautiful scenery, wildlife and stunning sunsets. Comfortable, clean accomodations. Photos don't do the place justice. Plenty of space to stretch out indoors & out. Owner was extremely helpful in answering questions and helping with our preparations. Highly recommend for a fishing vacation or relaxing family getaway. We will definitely call on Gerry again when our next trip rolls around!

Gerry's cabin was terrific. It is tucked at the western edge of a long narrow river valley, so from our deck we could enjoy the fast-rushing Madison River, take in the 180+ degree of mountains and watch the occasional eagle or osprey glide by. The closest mountain looked like I could hit it with a golf ball (and I suck at golf). But the distances are deceiving and a neighbor told me it was about 3 miles away. Speaking of distances, this cabin is 30 minutes from Yellowstone, which was a bit tiring after a day of touring. Yet, we agreed it was well worth it to be in such a nice setting, and away from the very touristy West Yellowstone town. The cabin was every bit "as advertised" on-line. The basic accommodations were great, and I also strongly appreciate the little things that Gerry includes like foil, sandwich bags, laundry detergent, etc. Especially given the eye-popping West Yellowstone tourist pricing, it was nice not to need to buy more than the basic foods to eat. Our family of four (two adult kids) were all comfortable and thumbs up about it! Gerry's list of local eateries also earned a thumbs up from us.

Great location. Very well appointed and stocked. Excellent fly fishing right from your doorstep.. This is not a typical rental...more of a second home. Could not have asked for more. Chad, Doug and the boys.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Flies & Lies Lodge July 22-29! The home is very comfortable. My family had a great time fishing, site seeing and just enjoying the view and the quiet on the deck. We feel so fortunate to have found the rental property on the internet and that it lived up to its promise of a great place to stay. After leaving the cabin, we went on to Jackson, but the whole time we were there, we wished that we could have spent our second week at Gerry's place. We appreciate the great opportunity to stay in the cabin and all of Gerry's help and advice that got us there.

Gerry, Thanks for a very nice vacation at your cabin in Montana. You have a perfect location in Madison Valley. The mountain views were spectular. We all had a good time and did alot of sightseeing, driving through Yellowstone, etc It was good to see my father having such a good time(he hardly ever takes vacation). Anyway, I will not get long winded but we sure did enjoy the vacation. We left Friday morning to catch our flight, and I left the key where it was. Maybe we can come back again sometime. Thanks, Aaron Payne
