True World Bungalow - a Work of Art Inside and Out
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
A mile up a dirt road and twenty thousand miles from the cares of the world, the True World Bungalow is perfect for a relaxing getaway. Originally part of the Mojave Rock Ranch Resort, the bungalow is the epitome of “Joshua Tree Style”, in which rustic, artistic and luxury elements combine in unexpected and delightful ways.
As you enter the front gate, you will be greeted by the bottle wall fish pond and blooming water lilies in season. There are private patios in the front and back, perfect for sunrise coffee and sunset cocktails. The bungalow shares a five acre property with the owner’s home, and backs up to over 150 acres of desert wilderness, so you can literally hike out your door and explore a vast landscape of boulders, abandoned claim shacks and wildlife habitat.
The bungalow has two sunny bedrooms (one king, one queen), nicely appointed with down comforters, original artworks, plenty of closet space and views for miles. The custom woodstove (a work of art in itself) will keep you toasty on cool evenings and the sweet retro kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need to prepare a feast. Enjoy complimentary wi-fi, DVDs on the flat screen TV, or music from the CD player (or your iPod). In warm weather you can relax under the trees in the cowboy spa, laze in the hammock, or enjoy air-conditioned comfort indoors. And in every season you can count on star-filled nights, 50 mile views of Mt. San Gorgonio and Mt. San Jacinto and up close and personal encounters with a myriad of desert wildlife.
Joshua Tree National Park Visitors Center is 10 minutes away in the artists’ community of Joshua Tree, where you can also explore the galleries and shops and grab a bite to eat. Please feel free to ask your hosts for suggestions or to arrange special trips, from rock climbing, trail riding, guided hikes and night sky viewing venues to massage, yoga, and spa treatments and visits to local artists' studios.
Our calendar is always kept up to date so you can check availabiltiy before making your inquiry. Please call or email with any questions – we look forward to your visit!

Human art embedded in art created by randomness and probability distributions. Bravo on a most spectacular and deeply moving performance. Snow and wind added a nice touch to clouds, sun, rocks, sand and vegetation. The human element was brilliant and some of the best we have seen. I admit these words are inadequate, but I thought we would try to express what a wonderful and glorious experience we had that was all quite subtle and nuanced in so many lovely ways. Thank you from all of us and we will definitely recommend to others. PS - thanks for having Jimi Hendrix and BeethovenDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Comfortable, quiet, beautiful scenery, creativity all around - hate to leave. This was a perfect home base for our JTNP hiking trip. Had a fantastic week with so many new experiences, even rock climbing. Highly recommend "Cliff Hangers Guides" at JT Outfitters. Thank you for having us.Did you find this review helpful? We love your bungalow! Such a relaxing retreat from the outside world. Hiking with the dog, and without, in Joshua Tree National Park, scrambling over boulders, wow! Watching the stars at night, watching the sun come up in the morning or just listening to the quiet of the desert. What a remarkable place. The little touches of art truly make this place magical. We felt right at home. Would like to come a couple of times a year if available. Thank you for this spiritual experience of joy in nature.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Lovely home, full of artwork and personal touches provided by the owners. Despite a roaring February wind outdoors with windchill around 28 degrees (according to the ranger in the national park), the home warmed up nicely and was perfectly comfortable with a fire in the fireplace and high functioning space heaters. We loved the landscaping, and the decor; they are just as the photos show online. The owners respected our privacy completely, but when we needed a bit of help they were right there for us. I'd definitely stay in the bungalow again. Hiking in Joshua Tree National Park is not to be missed.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, pet owners, age 55+.

This was the perfect isolated Thanksgiving getaway. We were able to bring our dog and in-laws, cook meals together, hike, rest, and enjoy the scenery. It was blissfully quiet with awesome sunrises and sunsets. It is close to the park, but far enough away from neighbors for privacy. The entire house is art itself as well as filled with it. There is an interesting history and beautiful interior and exterior design. At truly unique stay that we look forward to booking again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

A beautifully kept place that was clean, quiet, private and surrounded by nature. We had a great experience there. There were 2 adults and 2 children in our group and it was just the perfect size. The owners were nice enought to leave us a bottle of wine that we thouroughly enjoyed.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

You have such a nice place! So artsy and handmade! This is the kind of house I want to live in when I grow up. Unlike the noisy, bustling city where I live, this place makes you feel remote and peaceful. I will look forward to relaxing and reading in the patio. I love people who are into handmaking things and art. Thank you so much for letting my family and me stay in your beautiful home!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is a most gorgeous & unique rental - I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone! It is close to Joshua Tree National Park, it offers peace & quiet and all the art is fantastic. It has all the basic necessities. The colours in the sky were amazing to watch in the early morning or late evening & the outdoor living spaces were just as much fun as the indoors! The bottle of wine on arrival was a nice touch too.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

What can I say that already hasn't been said about this nifty little desert gem? My girlfriend, myself and our 3 dogs recently enjoyed a sensational weekend there. Everything was perfect from the moment we stepped inside. The pictures truly do not do the True World Bungalow justice. The owners (who couldn't have been nicer!) have done a tremendous job designing and decorating this unique cabin. Whether you're looking to get away and relax, or go out for some fantastic hiking, this bungalow has it all! If I could give it more stars than just five, I would :) ENJOY!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About the owner: While living in New York, we first discovered Joshua Tree on a side trip after a Las Vegas convention. Business and family moved to Los Angeles and so did we, allowing us to spend many weekends in our beloved desert, just a short drive away. In 1999 we and our friends stayed in the Bungalow of the Mojave Rock Ranch, the resort that defined Joshua Tree Style. When this beautiful little home came on the market in 2003, we bought it (and its five acres) as our own weekend retreat. Three years later we sold our LA home, moved into our Joshua Tree Bungalow and opened the True World Gallery in town. Last year we finished a new home on our property, and we have opened up the Bungalow once again as a rental, renaming it the True World Bungalow. For us, the desert is the true world -- a place to live in harmony with the environment, and with our wonderful community. We welcome you as our guests, and maybe one day as our neighbors!
