Quinta Anabtawi Beautiful!

Guest: Chet (Brighton, UK)
Date of Stay: 03/31/12 Review Submitted: 04/06/12

Sat 31st Mar – Friday 6th April Riyad A great find! Riyad, you’re the best host we could have hoped for. Excellent company as are Riyad Jr & Glori. Everything was made easy for us despite our very poor Spanish. Quinta Anabtawi is an amazing place to stay. The accommodation is comfortable, the grounds unbelievable & the pool prefect. (If a little chilly) The highlight has to be Glori’s BBQ – what a great chef! We all agreed that it was the best steak we’ve had in Argentina. Local highlights: Piadina – Great pizza/pastatostados Belasco Baquedano – a great winery & gourmet tasting menu (& unbelievably inexpensive) Marcvelo’s wine tour – what a cool guy! The local village – Chacras de Coria is definitely worth a visit. Looking forward to catching up with you when you come over for your visit to England. Keep well. Chat, Gail, Amber, Zac & Yoz Oh yes, everyone wants to kidnap Homero!

Amazing Quinta Anabtawi!!

Dear Riyad, What a glorious 3 “full” days we have had in Mendoza thanks to you! Where do we begin… - We loved your Quinta – the grounds are awesome and the location is ideal for visiting the wine country of Mendoza. - Having you as a host is like having a personal concierge. - The tours you arranged were also awesome. - The Asado was one of the best meals we have had anywhere, anytime and sharing that time with you is a memory that we will cherish for ever. - As dog lovers we enjoyed having Homero around and helped us not miss our animals at home. - Your restaurant recommendations were spot on and we enjoyed them immensely. - This has been high light of our trip and we are already looking forward to returning and spending more time here. Thank you, Thankyou, Thankyou Bob, Norma & Nick Evans Lafayette, California, USA

Quinta Anabtawi Beautiful!

Guest: George (Canada)
Date of Stay: 02/09/12 Review Submitted: 02/16/12

Feb 9-16, 2012 Riyad, What can we say to describe this jewel of a resort and your hospitality. It started with the booking and the help you offered us and has ended with a fabulous asado! You are much too modest on your website about how magnificent the Quinta really is. A truly private resort with such unique amenities. We were here with our daughter and son-in-law so the guest house was perfect for the four of us. We so enjoyed trying at our own asados (twice) and even made pizzas in the mud oven one night. Thank you for making arrangements with Diego for our bike and winery tours, it was a fantastic day to enjoy the local scenery, wines and food. As my daughter said, one of the highlights of her life (only 27) was the lunch at Rucamalen you arranged for us. Truly spectacular. As for the Quinta, it was always an oasis whenever we returned from our day trips! The pool was always inviting and such a relaxing place to unwind from the day’s activities. This was a truly amazing family re-union for us and after the hustle and bustle of BA. We so loved this resort. Your own love for the place shows through the care and attention shown to the property. And of course there is loveable Homero, always there to greet us morning, noon and night. What a treat for a dog-loving family. We wish you all the best success for the future Your new found Canadian friends, George, Lynn, Shaina & Marshal Calgary & Toronto, Canada

Owner response:I just read your amazingly beautiful comments on my guest book. Thank you so much my friend! You just made my day. Again I can't thank you enough for staying here. I wish you very successful & healthy years ahead for you and your lovely family! Hope to see you soon, Canada? I will certainly call you if ever I go there.. All the best. Riyad

Mendoza? More than wine....

Guest: Sonia (Lima, Peru)
Date of Stay: 12/27/11 Review Submitted: 01/19/12

Riyad, my family and I are in love with this place. Since we came to south America more than a year ago, our lives have been more than hectic. Staying at Quinta Anabtawi was a welcome respite; we have never felt more relaxed or able to let our hair down than we do in this setting. My daughter quickly befriended Homero, although he was reluctant to accept her ferocious hugs at first. The wines are to die for.. My recommendations are: 1. Dolium – small, friendly and their wines are luscious. 2. Lagarde – super cute, close and beautiful fruity viogners. We hope to see you again in the future Besos, Rob, Sonia & Zoe.

December 6, 2011 Riyad, We had an amazing time at your Quinta, and wish we could stay (much) longer. The Bbq with Raul was delicious, and got pretty wild! Maybe next time you’ll have better luck at foosball. Lunch at Melipal vineyards was an experience of a lifetime; Food & Wine were unbeatable. We tried putting Homero in our carry-on, but he was too busy enjoying the sun. Eggs for breakfast from the chickens, fresh plums and cherries. What a treat! We can’t thank you enough and hope our paths cross again, soon!! All our best, Mario & Diedre. Rhode Island Manny & Jackie, Miami, Fl Matt & Glen, New Jersey

November 2011 Riyad, Thanks you for sharing your own piece of paradise with us. The wine, the food and most importantly the conversation was a cultural treat we will always remember. I think we were very close to arriving at viable solutions to the world’s problems. Late nights with bellies full of carne and red wine, we crawled into bed and dreamed dreams of peaceful villas and sun soaked vistas. Its cold and snowing at home in Canada and after our time here the prospect of “home” instills mixed feelings of anticipation and regret. It would very easy to fall into this lifestyle. The language, the customs are very compelling and had we come here in our 20’s rather than our 50’s, we may as well have never left! All the best to you! Come visit us! Bernie, Lynn, Katie Cox, David, Jacki, Claire Boileau. Pickle Lake and Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.

Owner response:Dear Lynn, Jacki, Claire, David and Bernie. I was busy at the Quinta mowing the lawns with 33C temperatures! I am black as a piece of coal! Thank you for the picture with Bernie. Loved it! I also heeded your calls for improvements. Got the plant out into the sun and replaced the bed in the studio with a much larger one. Next: find a better suited net for the soccer goals I am sure you'll survive the cold! I sometimes crave for some cold here All the best to you, and hope to see you again soon. Again thank you so much for staying at my place! All the best Riyad

Quinta Anabtawi

Guest: Liana (Santiago De Chile)
Date of Stay: 11/04/11 Review Submitted: 11/06/11

November 2011 Riyad, We tried to make it out here 5-6 months ago but were turned away at the border for not having permission to take our vehicle out of the country (Chile). Finally, here we are and we are so very happy we made the time to come – this time on a plane ?. We are probably the only “home bodies” you’ve had so we cannot make any recommendations on wineries, restaurants, etc. We came with our 16 months old son who was teething and a bit cranky so we decided to lie low. What we can say without any doubts is that you can stay on this property without leaving and still experience Mendoza!!. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. It is a very special, tranquil place. The chickens/roosters provided great entertainment for our little boy who wanted to go visit them several times a day. The pool was fabulous and refreshing. It was great to swim surrounded by such beautiful trees and lush foliage. The “casitas” were comfortable and had everything we needed. Plus we loved the smell of wood and stone inside. The BBQ was phenomenal. You are lucky to have Raul as a friend /family member. He is a very talented chef, even though he’s humble about it. By far the most delicious meats we’ve ever had. Homero, We always travel with our chocolate labs. Since they couldn’t come with us, it goes without saying that you were a joy to have around. Riyad told us not to feed you, but how could we not share with that sweet face? I hope you’ve enjoyed the bath we gave you. You are a sweet heart! Love Rob – Liana - William

29 Oct 11 Dear Riyad, great place you have here. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at Quinta A. It is a slice of paradise! Today, our last day, we spent the morning in Agrelo, and then drove to Mendoza for lunch. We made it back in time to enjoy a final hour of sunshine around the pool. It’s like the call - of – the – wild with all the birds. Our favorite hour of the day was always walking with Homero to all the corners of the property before sunset. He knows his land! Best of luck with the next phase of Quinta Anabtawi! John and Penny Denver, Colorado.

Amazing Getaway in Mendoza

Guest: krista (Washington D.C.)
Date of Stay: 09/23/11 Review Submitted: 10/05/11

We just spent a lovely weekend at Quinta Anabtawi and had the most wonderful time! The villa is located on a gorgeous piece of property with all of the amenities - gorgeous pool, gardens, lovely terraces, firepit and more. Both the villa and the studio apartment are very nicely appointed with complete kitchens and comfortable living quarters. This is a great place to go with a group - there are so many different areas to hang out. Also, we arranged to have the BBQ extravaganza on our first night - what an amazing experience! Raoul cooked the most delicious meats, all of the sides were local organic produce, and the wine and conversation were perfect with it all. The location was good - a great starting out point for the wine tasting trips we did all weekend. Finally, Riyad was super helpful in organizing our trip - a great resource - and he made us feel very welcome. We highly recommend staying at Quinta Anabtawi!

Riyad Again Thanks for our great stay at your villa! Your gracious "welcome" at midnight after a delayed flight; "emergency" supplies; wonderful recommendations and numerous emails regarding our stay were truly appreciated. Villa was wonderful! Huge outdoor area with our "fotball" (soccer) family tournament; the outdoor firepit by the studio was great at night with a glass of Malbec on a cool evening was delightful and fabulous asado with Raul and you was a highlight of our Mendoza visit. We need to return either as a group or individually in the near future. The guest book was filled with "our visit was too short..." whether your guests were staying 2 days a week or several weeks! It was a unique "escape" and a beautiful place to stay. Many Thanks for allowing us to share your home for a few days! Will highly recommend your Villa to any of our friends traveling to Mendoza! Riyad was wonderful setting up our wine tours; our spectacular lunch at Melipal (unbelievable!) and with all our inquiries. If visiting Mendoza would rate 5 Star the Villa, Riyad, Rual, Homero without reservation for groups of 2 to 8 in the villa and studio. Many Thanks to our gracious host!

Date of Stay: 12/11/10 Review Submitted: 12/12/10

December 11, 2010 When writing the date above, I had to think hard about exactly what day it is today. This place is exactly that kind of place – where you lose all track of time. It’s the perfect vacation destination. Sarah, Tony and I spent only four nights here, and it pains us to leave. I so enjoyed the Eden-like gardens and the fauna is fabulous too. I ate cherries and plums every morning, and visited Thelma and Louise hoping to find eggs (only one, alas). Homero always trotted behind, checking the perimeter. We spent one whole day visiting wineries with Marcelo, our knowledgeable driver. We trusted him to come up with an itinerary, and he did not steer us wrong. We toured four very different “bodegas”, though all were stunningly beautiful: Catena Zapata, Achaval-Ferrer, Melipal and Carinae. We had a five- course, five-star lunch at Melipal overlooking the pond. I highly recommend it! We spent another day in Mendoza city, doing a little shopping and a lot of waiting in line at the ATM. We lunched leisurely near Plaza Independencia, came back here to nap and swim, then a late dinner at Francis Mallman’s 1884. The restaurant is gorgeous and the asado almost as god as Raul’s. And Raul! Everybody wants to pack Homer into their suitcases, but I’d take you. You are a master at the parrilla. Riyad, I don’t have enough words or enough space to thank you for making this experience so easy and so pleasant. Gracias. We’ll be back!

Riyad, The Quinta exceeds all expectations. My stay here with Holli and Tony will remain a highlight of any of my vacations, and I will absolutely be back. Pictures truly don't do the Quinta justice. You can easily lose your fellow travelers during some quiet hours of reading in one or another relaxing place on the property. The fire and outdoor kitchen area are ideal for enjoying evenings of wine with friends. The pool area is wonderful. The work and care you have put into the Quinta can be seen in every element. Please thank Raul again for our night of asado. This vegetarian certainly broke a lot of rules that night :) I had tried Holli and Tony's meals at Don Mario and Francis Mallman and while both were great only Raul had me going back for seconds!!! Your recommendations for restaurants, and Marcelo as a driver, never disappointed. When I make it back I hope to do 2 days of wine with Marcelo. The empanadas from across the street are amazing. (future travelers I advise walking over during your first day and getting your order in right away, she may need 48 hours). The proprietor also has reasonably priced produce, juices, soda, beer, etc. Riyad expect me sometime during harvest 2012! And give Homero a big hug for me.

May 14, 2010RiyadThank you for such a wonderful stay at Quinta Anabtawi! Although our stay was short (too short) we have enjoyed every minute of it! Your home is so beautiful, the pool, the guest houses, the landscape - it truly is a labor of love and you can see it in every detail of the house. We especially enjoyed our evening firing up pizzas with you by the fire pit, with great wine & conversation. The guys had a lot of fun playing ping pong with you & look forward to a rematch :)I really appreciate all you have done to make our stay care free & memorable. I know I asked a lot of questions via email & you helped me with all of them. This was truly what we needed to relax after flying end to end of Argentina in just a few days. On top of your gracious hospitality, we had Homero, who helped us not miss our own puppies so much. What a sweet, friendly lovable boy he is. I wish I could take him home with us. I hope we didn't spoil him too much!Thank you so much for welcoming us to your home, we hope to return again, and would love to welcome you to our home in Dallas if you ever travel to Texas!Thank you for everything!Sabrina, Beau, Jenny & Neal.

April 30, 2010.Leaving at the end of our too brief stay, with many memories of this unique place. Such a luxury to have so much space to ourselves, and enjoying the autumn weather has been a great treat, here at the Quinta and out and about. We shall not forget the wineries (especially spectacular lunch at Ruca Malen), our drive up into the Andes, or the great asado here last night. Thanks to Riyad for all your kind attention - and for suggestion of a last minute trip to the hot spa at Cacheuta, well worth while. We'd love to see how the next stage of your plans for this place work out. 2009 Xmas Traveling with children is always unpredictable. This time my eight year old provided the surprise when he developed an infection in his gums over Christmas. he was in great pain. We were so worried, but everywhere was closed. We felt so helpless. Finally we called Riyad. Within half an hour he had found a very good dentist willing to see my son. He went to the clinic with us, communicated with the dentist and helped us buy the necessary medicines at a nearby pharmacy. With effortless charm, Riyad, brought an intimidating and difficult situation to a quick and easy resolution. He acted more like a family member than a hotelier. I will always be grateful for his help.

It was great getting to know you and Raoul sitting around the fire pit enjoying great food and wine. And of course, what can you say about Homer? He is one of the sweetest, most lovable dogs we have ever met! We love him and will miss him! As for things to do, we highly recommend the drive up to the Aconcagua and a hike in the Aconcagua National Park. Some of the most spectacular scenery we have ever seen! December 4th, 2009 Riyad Thank you so much for sharing your oasis in Mendoza with us. We have had such a lovely few days here. We really got a chance to explore the area and fell in love with Mendoza. We really enjoyed touring several wineries, lunches were amazing at Ruca Malen and Andeluna - and having a beautiful garden and pool to relax by for our siestas. You and Raoul provided a really wonderful asado! What a chef Raoul was. Delicious meat, veggies and wonderful company. The Quinta is a very unique place to stay. We loved having Homero greeting us every morning and evening when we'd return. The hens provided us with delicious eggs - such a treat and the cherry trees had the most delicious fruit. A trip to Valle del UCO with Marcelo is a must! He was a great tour guide and such beautiful wineries. We fell in love with Mendoza and will definitely be back!

Nov, 9 2009 Thank you Riyad for a wonderful stay. The villa is perfect for people who like lots of space. The villa itself is also very well equipped, which we appreciated. Homero was a great companion for two people who are very attached to their own dogs. We didn't much time at all in the city, preferring the country side. Aside from the terrific asado with you and Raoul, highlights for us were: - Wine tour of the Valle Del Uco with Marcelo - and excellent driver who arranged a varied tour of the wineries. Altos for lunch was wonderful. - Trout and Wine did a very good day trip to Uspallata and area.the people of Mendoza relax along the river on Sunday after the excellent tasting lunch at Ruca Malen. - Aside from the very good artesian market, there is a small store on Italia Street in Chacras that has good design, high quality things at reasonable prices. Thank you Riyad for all your help and a terrific stay Katherine and Andrew. - Just watching

We came to visit vineyards and were not disappointed. The first afternoon we toured Nieto Senetiner just down the road. Julia, the guide, was enlightening in all aspects of the wine business and product. One morning we spent with Phillippe at Carinae for a nice time at a tiny vineyard. That afternoon we spent hours and hours with Christian at Tempus Alba drinking wine and eating cheese on their magnificent deck. On Sunday we toured Ruca Malen and enjoyed the five-course meal with fine wines. The Sauvignon Blanc was a pleasant surprise. Fernanda Lucero was our delightful host. April 1-7, 2009Riyad,Thank you again for a wonderful week here at Quinta Anabtawi! You have created such a beautiful environment and we enjoyed every moment from sitting by the pool to our nightly asados! Homero has been a wonderful companion and the fresh eggs every day have been just delicious! It has been such a luxury to have such a beautiful (and large!!) outdoor space just to ourselves and we certainly would love to come back! You have been such a gracious host from organizing bike rentals to arranging wine tours and we truly appreciate it.Some of our recommendations for future guests:-We spent a fantastic day wine tasting in the UCO valley and would highly recommend it. We hired a wonderful driver from Mendoza who picked us up here at the villa in the morning and took us to the three wineries we had chosen (he handles the reservations)We went to O. Fournier, Andeluna(highly recommended for lunch – delicious!) and La Azul. It was a perfect grouping (all a little different) and an excellent day.Marcelo(the driver) speaks excellent English (he lived in Canada for several years) and we cannot recommend him highly enough! (It was 600 pesos for the day for the 2 of us - UCO is a long drive! – closer tours are less)e-mail : marcelo.villegasAThotmailDOTcom- Bikes and Wines – Riyad arranged for us to rent bikes for the week which were dropped off and picked up at the villa. We did not have a car so this was a great way to get around!- La Vicenzia (in Chacras) – excellent empanadas! Go around Lunch or Dinner time when they are hot out of the oven!- Jebbs – obviously! Excellent bread and sweet treats – we think their alfajores are the best we’ve had in Argentina.- Local wineries:- Altavista was lovely though we missed the entrance the first time around – if you hit the main road, you’ve gone too far!- Sentiner was excellent, especially the tasting. Riyad set this tour up for us and our guide, Julia, was very good and very knowledgeable.- UCO valley wineries:- O. Fournier is quite modern, excellent tour and beautiful building.- Andeluna was perfect for lunch – tasting menu with wine pairings was excellent – the food was great and we got to try many more wines than a usual tasting.- La Azul is tiny – fantastic wines but be sure someone in your group can speak Spanish – Marcelo translated for us.It has been a wonderful holiday and we truly appreciate everything you’ve done to make this place and our stay so me

February 11, 2009Dear RiyadHere we sit on the morning of our departure, sipping our last cup of coffee and reflecting on this incredible trip to Argentina! After two and a half weeks in this glorious country, we are grateful and feel so grateful and feel so blessed for sharing this country with you and all the wonderful people of this land. The moment you greeted us at the gas station, to direct us your home, we felt your kindness, openness and gift of your hospitality. You are a wonderful man with a heart that is so wide and so gracious.Greg communicated with you for several months via the internet and we felt your willingness to help from our first e-mail. As you know we are here in Argentina for our honeymoon and what a honeymoon it has been! When you opened the magnificent gate to your Quinta Anabtawi, we were immediately transported to “Paradise” – as the gate opened, my eyes were opened even wider as we were greeted by the lush, rich and perfectly manicured “Paradise” that you have created. The pool area is beyond relaxing, the gardens are beautiful and the entire layout of your property has been created with such love, care and creativity.A few highlights from our trip to share with your guests that follow our departure:1)The wineries are worth a day of visiting. We went to Luigi Bosca for a tour and it was terrific! Great wine tasting to follow the tour.2)Then we went to Ruca Malen for a delightful 5 course lunch/wine pairing. This is a must if you are trying to decide which winery to visit. Excellent meal, fabulous wine, great views – sit outside!3)We thought Francis Mallman was terrific! The setting is extremely romantic and magical. You will never believe how amazing it is inside when first pull in – keep going inside you are in for a real treat!4)Restaurants: Don Mario, in Palmares – great steaks at a great price!5)RELAX, RELAX, and ENJOY the pool!6)Homero – what can we say, he is a trip! Now we call him “Don Homero”!We know we will be back and we expect to return next year. Please come to Chicago to visit us. Our doors and our hearts will always be open to you. Thank you for everything. With deep gratitudeGreg and Susan GrabackiChicago, Illinois, USAP.S. How could I forget to mention the outstanding asado – many thanks to Raul!

Dec 23-30 2008From Springfield, IL USAWe will no doubt think often of our time here…Considering the current state of our economy, we seriously considered canceling this trip. What a mistake that would have been. The Quinta has provided us respite and refreshment – a time to decompress and reflect on our blessings. As much as we enjoyed our various excursions (dining out, wine tours, drive to Chile, rafting), the Quinta remains far and away our most treasured experience. It is clearly a labor of love for Riyad with its beautifully landscaped & well thought out grounds. He has created something very special here and it provided a retreat unlike anything else we have ever experienced. We will miss it terribly – the asado with delightful Raul, meeting Homero’s Bart, conversations with Riyad, the generosity of his spirit & heart, his love for his son, the pool, the majestic poplars swaying against the intense blue of the Mendoza sky. All of it has been such a blessing and we leave deeply grateful.Thank you Riyad.Barry & Lucy JensenSummer(17) & Rily(14)

Jan 9, 2009 What a wonderful way to usher in the New Year with friends and family at Qunita Anabtawi! Riyad, we've had a great time in your gardens, the house and the studio. Everything seemed perfect for our mix of generations and 3 couples... plenty of room to stretch out in, well equipped kitchen, refreshing pools, ball sports and even a huge clay oven along with 3 asados!. We didn't feel a pressing need to leave and tour the countryside, but our walks, the winery tours, the meals out(Ruca Malen and Francis Mallmann) were outstanding. Thanks for all the tips, the maps and the reservations. Last night we enjoyed walking down to guardia vieja street, to watch the Dakar racers roar by, then it was back to the Quinta for oven baked pizza chased down with a flight of Jerome microbrews. Then the night before .... the Asado!. Thanks much to you and Raul and Homero for such fine company and the introduction to a true ritual. In sum, a stellar week. Thank you for all your help and genuine hospitality. I look forward to a rematch (Ping Pong) soon!. Boyd What a great spot! We had a wonderful time here at the Quinta. Homero was the perfect companion while lounging poolside, playing cards on the patio or our meals at the clay oven. Riyad was a great host in what was all in all a fantastic vacation. Brett The Quinta is so nice it makes you want to spend all your time here. But when we got the courage to leave, we were greeted by beautiful vistas, great wines and of course the best steaks I have ever had. Riyad was so helpful in telling us about the best wineries and restaurants and making reservations for us. It was certainly an experience I will not forget. Jeff

Dec 13-18 2008 Our stay at Quinta was unforgettable and very relaxing. The security blanket and helpfulness of Riyad being a phone call away was priceless. Our five days here have been the highlight of our month in Argentina. We will miss this amazing oasis and of course Homero. Mostly we spent our time enjoying the quietness of the Quinta, since we are now heading into Mendoza for a few days and here are our ratings: 1) Terrazas de Los Andes Rating: Not very good tour or wine. 2) Ruca Malen Rating: amazing lunch (they even did one vegetarian for us) 3) Carlos Pulenta: Rating: great tour and very good wine. Thank you for everything! We hope to be back for a longer stay. Lisa and Ryan Boulder, Colorado

Dear RiyadWe couldn’t ask for a better finale to our visit to Argentina than a four day escape to your Eden at Quinta Anabtawi! You have thought of everything from a few DVD’s and a soccer ball for the boys to helping arrange our brief itinerary to local wineries and Aconcagua.Highlights of our stay (in no particular order):-Homero, your “PR” perro – always at our doorway each morning with tail wagging.-The swimming pool – so restful.-The pond where the boys caught more fish than we will be able to count (and of course released)-Lunch at Ruca Malen (not to be missed)!-Hiking the loop at Parque Aconcagua on a sunny, cloudless day, a blue-green lake and azur skies. To top everything was the last night’s asado coordinated by Riyad and the master chef Raul. No BBQ will ever be the same.Riyad, your hospitality and Quinta will live in our memories forever! You and Quinta Anabtawi will be on our next itinerary. Only next time we want to stay at least one week!Cheers!Gary, Mary Ann, Ben and JackSan Diego, CA.

March, 2008. There is no place like the Quinta…but now we must head home. It’s been an amazing month – that went by way too quickly! The Quinta has been the highlight of our trip – a true gem. The house and grounds are top notch. We couldn’t have picked a better place to stay while discovering the beautiful wine region of Mendoza.Riyad is by far the most helpful host we have ever encountered in our travels. We pestered him for 6 months before we got here – and again for the month we were here. Let’s just say we’ve been “high maintenance” visitors. Yet, Riyad delivered on everything AND MORE! Riyad’s asado night is such a treat. Raul is definitely a master when it comes to preparing the feast (he’s great company, too). Our attempts at asado didn’t produce quite the same results – “blackened” describes it best! But we did manage to conquer the pizza oven and produced some lovely creations – in literally minutes! Smokey and delicious. And yes, Homero, the ear-flapping dog, is a loveable as everyone says. He’ll steal your heart with his big brown eyes waiting for you at the door every morning as you open the curtains. He’s been great company and earns his keep as one of the best PR guys we’ve ever met! How many pictures did we take of him?!Some great wineries to visit in the area – although if you’re driving be prepared to go around in circles a few times before finding the places. The street signs and published maps can be “slightly” misleading.Riyad. Thank you so much for making our time in Argentina so memorable. We would highly recommend your Quinta to anyone. We truly appreciate all your time and effort making us comfortable here, answering our many questions, setting up reservations and helping us out when we got lost. It’s been a pleasure meeting you and we thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent with you (who knew the expats lunch would last 8 hours!)Gracias por todo amigo. We wish you well.Norman Parsons and Laura Philips.Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

January 6, 2008Our stay at the quinta was outstanding – its tranquility is the perfect contrast to the fast paced BA experience. Riyad is a knowledgeable ambassador to Mendoza and a wonderful and interesting person that we truly enjoyed getting to know. The Quinta experience surpasses anything possible within the confines of a standard hotel accommodation, highlighted by an authentic Argentinean BBQ prepared by Riyad’s humorous and loveable amigo Raul. MAGNIFICENT!! You turned two vegetarians into meat-eaters for an evening! Homer was a spectacular pal – well mannered and adorable. We want to take him home!Jonathan & Amy MalenDavid Deming & Janine Santimauro.San Francisco, CAP.S. Call us if you’re in SF. Bring Raul and Homer too.And Bart!

The occasion of our visit was to celebrate Christmas together as a family following my 21 year old's ascent to the summit of Aconcagua. When he and his friend returned they stayed for 3 nights in the lovely studio apartment, while my sister-in-law, niece and I stayed in the quinta for 11 nights total. It was a very relaxing vacation. Riyad, Raul and Mario made our stay so stress-free. With their help we were able to grill out 2 nights and another night we shared a barbecue with them. They offered us a lot of help in getting situated and arranging for reservations. The pool was beautiful and refreshing and the fresh eggs and fruit were delightful. I would love to go back someday and take my husband. I rented a car and feel very capable of getting around to any of the local sites, including driving up to the Aconcagua National Park. Because others had booked for the last night we would be in Mendoza, Riyad arranged for us to go to a nice, two bedroom apartment he manages for our final night. It was very convenient and close to the airport. I highly recommend the quinta as your Mendoza destination.

14 April 2007-04-16Riyad Thank you for a lovely stay at your Quinta and for your generous hospitality.Though we did not venture too far, we did enjoy a visit at Jebb’s and also a very enjoyable evening at “Dowel”. This was the micro brewery on the Panamericana road just before Palmares. The restaurant serves 4 different beers (not sure about the grape bear!). The German food was very pleasant and a change of menu. The holiday was made even more memorable by the thoroughly enjoyable evening spent with Riyad and Raoul, who excelled with his asado and entertaining conversation. (with our limited Spanish and his lack of English).Useful info: a visit to the nearby Senetiner winery is well worth a visit. We could not end without saying that Homero was the star of the visit.Thank you for a very warm and welcoming introduction to South America.Geraldine and Paul (London, UK)

April 6/07When we first arrived at the Quinta we poured over the suggestions of previous visitors with full intentions of following through on everyone’s informed recommendations.6 days later- we are now leaving…. Without ever dining at one of Mendoza’s fine restaurants – without ever tasting a pastry from Jebb’s … which we are sure are both incredible experiences. We are leaving instead with our own amazing memories as we’ve discovered the best way to enjoy Mendoza is to make it your own. And with much gratitude to Riyad – we accomplished just that!!Quinta Anabtawi became more than just “our home away from home” – it is now our very own private oasis to which we will return to, often – if only in our memory.Riyad and Raoul – from the bottom of our hearts – Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! We’ve learned another lesson at the Quinta – the only thing “lost in translation” are bad jokes (Ha!). Friendship transcends any language barrier!P.S. Who is Homero???With love and thanksPam (Waterloo, Ontario, Canada)Carolyn & Richard Smith (London, Ontario, Canada)

Feb, 27th, 2007Our third visit to Quinta Anabtawi speaks for itself. Same old Riyad, Mario and Homero!!Trip marred only by a break in to our rental car on a Saturday night in the middle of the city. Be warned . Put it in an “Estacionamiento”.Top of our enjoyment was gourmet , fixed price ($US35) lunch at the Almacen-del-Sur in Maipu. Leave 3 hours free. Club Tapiz still good. La Bourgogne prices have steeply risen and the quality has declined. We had a lovely drive up to Los Penitentes (on the road to Chile), lunch, salad, jamon drudo and beer and return to the Quinta. Spectacular scenery!Enjoy the Quinta, as Riyad with his improvements drives up the quality to 5 stars.Jean and Michael ShirleyLenox, MA, USA

December 21 – December 28, 2006To borrow one of our host Riyad’s favorite words, Quinta Anabtawi is fabulous!Riyad – you have created (and are still creating) a garden of earthly delights. It’s a tranquil, comforting oasis in this wonderful high desert landscape and a safe refuge from the crazed and astonishingly incompetent Mendocino drivers.Riyad – you are a great host and a very generous human being. It has been a privilege to meet you and to spend some time talking and getting to know you. May your wife and your son have a wonderful, happy and healthy life.A personal note – as owners of a home in Mexico that we rent, we want to praise Riyad for the great job he does – from the first e-mail contact through our entire stay. Life is in the details, and Riyad is a master of the details. He really understands how to make his guests feel they are at home. Then there is Raul, master of the asado and the creator of the best pizzas we have ever eaten (or could imagine eating). Not only is he a great chef, he is also a sweet, loving man. Our only regret is that we don’t speak enough Spanish to get to know him much better. What can you say about Homero that everyone hasn’t already said? He is a love. He is also a great actor, doing a great impersonation of a dog. He has also convinced us that he is sad to see us leave. Our favorites here in Mendoza:-Dinner at la Bourgonge – superb food and service in a beautiful setting at Carlos Pulenta winery.-The wine tasting tour at Nieto Senetiner led by a young woman called Belen. She was passionate about the winery and extremely knowledgeable. Probably the best wine tour we’ve done anywhere.-Rafting the Mendoza river with the people from Betancourt.-The banos and mud bath at Cacheuta Hot Springs.-Ayllu Arte Popular – great artisan store on the west ring road to Mendoza.-The town square in Chacras-Cocktails in the bar at the Hyatt hotel. The longest cocktail list we’ve ever seen. Great pisco sours.-Dinner and conversation with Riyad and Raul!Muchas gracias!Hasta luegoTerry, Michelle & Vera FitzpatrickPortland, Oregan USA

12 November 2006Adios Quinta Anabtawi, Riyad, Raul and Homero (“Mo”). Our time here was peaceful after busy BA. Many, many thanks, to our host for the beautiful and tranquil setting of this place. Things we especially enjoyed:1-Driving to the Chilean border into the Andes2-The back road to Tupungato3-Raul’s cooking, especially el horno caldero4-Rafting the Mendoza river – Argentina Rafting5-The company of Mo.6-Wonderful host Riyad 7-Tasting wine at Achaval Ferrer – if you like wine and you have time for one, this is it!8-Not being a “white bread/pan casero” person, Kelly failed to add to the long list of “Jebs” devotees, but the rest of the crew loved the morning facturas and media lunas ritual.9-A special emphasis to Raul’s asado (better than can be found anywhere we have feasted in Argentina – particularly his perfect grill of the meat cuts and the special gaucho sauce). Also the road (gravel for +- 20Km) from Potrerillos on Rte 9 to Tupungato and then out to Tupungato park post the high altiplano vineyards.10-The afternoon mate and helados rituals with the tribe – from the high Andes to Riyad’s magical landscape and pool – special moments with the teenagers.Riyad – from our first point of e-mail contact through 1500 Km of to/from driving excursions, our novice attempt at asado, to Raul’s bouquet evening and departure – everything has been a flawless dream (Ok, so we did have a few lost moments on the streets of Mendoza and violated siesta with our frenetic N.American psyche ?), we will certainly return – next time from Santiago by car and with all our climbing equipment! All our love and best wishesKelly KriegerGreg SundbergPeter SundbergMimi KriegerSeattle, Washington, USA

Oct 20-26, 2006 Riyad: After a week in hectic Buenos Aires, your quinta was a Fabulous change of pace. We agree with all of your prior guests - the grounds are fantastic! Sitting by the pool and looking at the blue skies makes the vacation very special. We especially enjoyed being able to buy and then drink special wines at the many outdoor spaces we could use. Also cooking meals at the outdoor grills and giving our leftovers to Homer -- a special companion to us and all of your guests. Thanks again Riyad Arthur & Trish New York, NY

Hello Riyad! We had such a wonderful time at your villa! Thank you for being so kind and helpful! And Homero too! It was so special to wake up and see his face, play with him in the yard, and sit with him by the pool. He is such a sweet, gentle dog! Some highlights: -Driving to the Andes in our rental car. Parque Provincal Aconcagua is a must-see! There is a 30-45 minute walking path that was great. There is a look out point with views that are just breathtaking! - Alta Vista and Nieto Senetiner had good, informative tours in English. I'd recommend both. Also we had lunch at Senetiner. I'd recommend that too. Norton was only ok. - Golfing nearby was lots of fun. The nearest course for non-golf club members, La Vacharie, was very nice. Although it had only 9 holes, the views were spectacular. And the other course, Club de Campo, was a very well-conditioned, 18 hole course. Thank you so much for helping us get to the courses! That was very kind of you. We would have been lost without your help. - Empanadas at the road side stand. Delicious! But most of all we enjoyed hanging out at your villa. Relaxing by the pool, bbq (that was lots of fun!), the birds, the rabbits, and, of course, playing with Homero! If we are ever lucky enough to return to Mendoza we will definitely stay at your villa again! We leave with many special memories. Thank you.

January 2006What an amazing place! Riyad- Thank you for all your kindeness. The architecture, grill, flowers and pool were beautiful. We visited the thermal springs with the caves and the great authentic market at the entry. The drive through the mountains there was magnificent. The horses down the street gave us a wonderful ride (gentle even for my 5yrs old girl) and a view of the snow capped mountains in the summer. The disco-Bbq place even had their chef prepare sushi for us as their wonderful yellow lab dog gave us hugs as he wore his sunglasses. Yes, the dog wore sunglasses the majority of the evening.Don’t miss the spectacular drives through the mountains, it is a natural wonder. The shopping in independence plaza in Mendoza city is fantastic. Great shoes!Riyad, “himself”, cooked us the best BBQ we have had in Argentina. Especially the tomatoes he cans himself. Mucho Bueno vino every noche!Homer, thank you for your love and protection in the Quinta. May he live long prosperous and eat much carne!Hasta luego – ChauWe will return.Fabian, Nicole and Mia Kristmann, Florida, USA.Ohh! Don’t miss the truck that comes around in the morning shouting on a loud speaker. He has the most delicious fruit and vegetables.

We have had a wonderful stay at Quinta Anabtawi. Our children enjoyed playing soccer and hide-and-go seek in the beautiful yard. Homer was quite enjoyable and entertaining. We especially enjoyed the sandwich shop, La Vaca, in Chacras, Jebb's and the zoo and parks. Mostly we want to thank Riyad for being a great host. We thank Riyad and Raul for the exceptional barbeque and enjoyable evening. We found the area to be very relaxing, the people friendly and a good place to unwind with our family. We hope to visit again, perhaps next time during the summer when we can enjoy the pool. It is beautiful ! Good luck Riyad We hope to see you again in the future. Scott, Julie, Leah, Mara and Elise
