This is a fabulous house in a spectacular one and one half acre garden setting. It is a well loved family home that we have owned since 1986. Our children have learned to water ski, sail, crab, fish, swim and kayak right off of the convenient and charming deep water dock.
The house was built in the 1970's. It is on three levels but the middle floor is the main living floor with two large wings on each side with bedroom/bath (queen beds) in each wing with walk in closets and with balconies The kitchen and great room with fireplace occupy the central part of the house and open onto a fabulous screened porch overlooking the dock, oak trees and the creek. The floors are heart pine. The walls are also pine. There is a loft overlooking the great room with a full bath and three single beds.
The great room has a glass top table that seats 8, a farm table that seats 8, a long counter that seats 8. On the screened porch there is another glass top table that seats 6.
Our crab pots are bringing in lots of crabs. Sitting at the counter with a pile of crabs and lots of newspaper is one of our favorite things. We have crab pots and a large pot in which to cook them.
On the ground level is a large room overlooking the creek with a queen bed, sofa and 2 chairs and stone fireplace. It opens onto a smaller bedroom with queen bed. Each room has its own access to the shared bath. It can be used as a suite, or two separate bedrooms.
The house is easily shared by several couples either with children or without. The bedrooms are widely separated and each has its own bath.
The dock is great for boating, swimming or fishing/crabbing , and boating We have a fleet of boats for your use. Included in the fleet are three kayaks, one canoe, one Sunfish, and a 15' foot jon boat with a 20hp electric start Yamaha. (We do have papers to sign before this boat can be used). Additional kayaks and boats can be rented at the Cherry Point Boat Landing. They also offer sunset cruises and nature tours. or you can enjoy your own boat or our jon boat. Check the website for Bohicket Boat.

The owners obviously take great pride and care of this residence. They include everything you could need for a stay in the beautiful town of Rockville. The house is huge, clean and outfitted for any outing on the local creeks, rivers, ocean and island exploring. Bring your boat and tie up in the deep water creek, watch the storms miles away form from the dock, check the crab pots, fish, swim, explore Botany island, take the boat over to Bohicket for lunch, shopping or dinner. Stair at a star-lit sky that is rarely seen from the city. This place will slow time down and force you to relax. Definitely will be back. Recommended for those that are so caught up in the rat race that they think they cannot relax.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We stayed here with another family for our kids' Spring Break. The pictures do not do it justice! The house has plenty of room for everyone to spread out comfortably. We kayaked, rode bikes, fished, crabbed, went shelling on nearby Kiawah, went into Charleston, saw a longline swordfish boat unloading at nearby Cherry Point Marina, played volleyball, and had just a wonderfully relaxing holiday. I highly recommend the Winery tour on the island. The owner was very accomodating and helpful in planning our trip, and has decorated the home beautifully. Beds were very comfortable and the home well-kept. We hope to come back this summer and bring a boat with us to do even more exploring!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

About the owner: The house is owned by 2 sisters. We are both in our 60's, both have 3 grown children. One sister is a retired librarian, married to a retired physician. The other is a retired psychotherapist. She and her husband have sailed their boat from Adams Creek to Europe and the Mediterranean where they now spend their summers.
Why the Owner Chose Wadmalaw Island:
This home was bought by our parents as a family gathering place. The house is roomy and comfortable and ideal for a family. Rockville is a 200 year old charming village full of gorgeous oak trees and charming houses. It is a five minute walk from our house. We are situated on a deep creek that has expansive views over the marsh to the North Edisto River. The setting is gorgeous.
We are boat people so having a true deep water dock is very important to us. The floating dock is 40' long and has 6 + feet of water at low tide. The intracoastal waterway (ICW) and the Atlantic Ocean are both in close distance. There is a boat landing nearby so bring your own boat or rent one near the boat landing.
Wadmalaw Island is a unique place. It is close to Charleston (about 35 minute drive). But it is a world away. It is protected, quiet, natural, un-commercial. However, you can buy shrimp from the docks and a few groceries at PM King's old fashioned grocery store; you can attend the charming Grace Chapel Episcopal Church or the Rockville Presbyterian Church. You can attend the 200-year old Rockville Regatta. You can visit a tea farm or a winery. You can have your boat repaired. You can rent a boat or take sunset cruises or nature tours from the nearby Bohicket Boat Company. You can drive 15 minutes to several fabulous restaurants.
And if you need more city-life, Charleston is a 35 minute drive, offering all the shopping, history, culture you could desire.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
In the summer we love to jump in the water, sail or catch crabs off of the dock. Adams Creek is ideal for kayaking and we have 3 kayaks, a conoe, and a Sunfish for your use. We also have made available a 14' jon boat with 20 hp motor which you may use if you demonstrate sufficient knowledge of boats and the water. Many types of boats are easily rented from Cherry Point Boat Landing. We enjoy taking boat trips to Botany Bay or Seabrook Island. We enjoy sunset cruises or sitting on the gazebo facing the western setting sun.
We also love to sit on the dock watching dolphin swim, fish jump or osprey fish. You can quietly read a book or perhaps write your own.
The set-up is perfect for cooking and entertaining. The fabulous, attractive kitchen is well equipped and has lots of granite counter space and cabinets. The pantry/laundry room is right behind the Sub Zero refrigerator and contains another refrigerator and a dedicated stand up freezer,
Our dogs love to run through the trees. If you want to bring your dog, please discuss that with us.
This is just a really nice house in which to spend time. It's nice to have everything on one floor, but then to have the ground level and the loft as places to escape.
