We stayed for a week with our 23 & 17 year old kids. We all loved it there. Fiona was extremely helpful before our trip and Melissa (manages the house and lives next door) was wonderful and very accommodating. The house is very rustic and beautiful... lots of wood beams and flooring, and very open. You can hear the waves crashing from your bed. The grounds were gorgeous, as well and everything is so clean. A great bonus was our "vacation pets". We loved Luckie, Blackie and Kitty. They are all so well-behaved and so sweet. It was a wonderful trip that we'll never forget. Thanks, Fiona and Melissa!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

Perfect combo. Sitting out on the cool and tiled veranda looking out through the jungle to the beach was pure heaven. We spent hours just relaxing and unwinding. Wake up in the morning to Howler Monkeys in the Jungle canopy right on the property. Take the Kayaks out for a spin. Relax in the Hammocks on the beach. Build a fire and roast a fresh caught fish bought two properties away on the grill on the beach. Walk down to the grocery store. Buy fresh bread from the bakery 5 minutes walking distance. In the evening a 3 minute stroll takes you to Hotel Celaje and eat a remarkable variety of delicious meals at the Pirate Restaurant Kardoes. Walk another 2 minutes for Pizza at El Coyote, where Jennie will set you up with virtually any kind of tourist excursion you might want as well as vehicle rentals. And please be sure to acquaint yourself with Melissa and her lovely family at the caretakers house. Give Melissa 45 minutes and the place is as clean as a whistle. Two dogs and a cat, Blackie, Lukie, and Poppie are gentle and loving additions: We became great friends during our stay. Fiona the owner is a delight; if you need anything including translations, be sure to let her know. A bus or a taxi will stop at the gate for you if you need to go exploring, although there is much to see just by walking around: We did not rent or need a car. My wife and I agree that we can recommend this property without reservation if you want to see a beautiful and peaceful slice of Costa Rica.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: I am so glad you enjoyed your stay and take away such good memories. It was great to have met you, hope you can make it back again!

We spent a week here with our three young girls. It was a perfect place to play and stay! No need for a rental car, grocery store nearby, and Melissa (the caretaker) was incredibly helpful for all our needs and questions. It was simple to catch the bus from the house to nearby beaches and Montezuma or just play in the beach outside the house. I give this beach house my highest recommendation and Fiona was prompt to respond to our questions and help us set the trip up.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

This house far exceeded our expectations. It is simple and beautiful. There are two grocery stores nearby and several good restaurants. You have the advantage of being close to the beach but feel like you are staying in a jungle. The sounds of howler monkeys and rain on the tin roof make for a good nights sleep. There is plenty to do with out going far from Cabuya. We enjoyed a fishing trip with Jose and renting four wheelers. Having sea kayaks on property was an unexpected bonus. There are plenty of hammocks, a very nice kitchen and a wonderful dining area. The house is very open and comfortable. A wonderful place to stay.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We have been travelling to Costa Rica for the past 16 years and this house is far and away our most favorite place to stay. Here you are directly on the ocean which is secluded and very private. There is also an abundance of wildlife...more than you will ever see in Monteverde. One morning while showering my son pointed out a howler monkey through the shower window that was no more than 3 meters away eating a mango. There are toucans, monkeys, parrots, iguanas, posote and even the occasional armadillo. There is a local fisherman just meters down the beach where you can buy the freshest red snapper. It's a great place for a couple or an entire family with friends. The caretaker lives right next door so you always have help if you need it...and the owner, Fiona and her daughters, are the nicest people you will ever meet. Anything that we have ever needed there was always addressed quickly such as when there was a small leak in the portal roof. It was fixed the next day. Cabuya is a quiet yet amazing place with a few very good restaurants, two small groceries, a great local bar and montezuma only minutes away. The prettiest road in Costa Rica crosses over from Cabuya to Malpais/Santa Teresa where there is world class surfing and endless white sand beaches. I can't say enough great things about this house and Cabuya. Here you are one with nature living in a 'Robinson Crusoe' house complete with an adjacent tree house and zip line for the kids, lovely river close by and all the hermit crabs that you can ever imagine. Enjoy!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Los Caracoales is as described and more.Photographs can not due justice to the details. The house is as immaculate as it is interesting. Each inside room reflects the beauty, joy and tranquility of the outside environment. The dining area and outside porch afforded us the luxury of transitioning from exciting days of exploring the beaches, kayaking along the endless shores, walking through the magnificent forests and hills of Cabo Blanco, visiting nearby Tambor with it's six kilometer beach where we rode horses disturbed only by the squawking and flight of Scarlett Macaws and roars of Howler monkeys, Curu Reserve with it's troops of Cappuchin monkeys and snorkelling/ Tortuga Island tour, zip lining, beach combing, basking in cool waterfall pools, shopping for souvenirs and eating international and local cuisine in Montezuma, surfing in Mal Pais or Santa Teresa or simply meandering through the sleepy, friendly streets of Cabuya by foot, horseback or 4 wheeler to easing into a warm shower and crawling under the covers where we were lulled asleep by the sound of waves lapping the shore in the front yard. Mornings brought soft light to the beautiful water as well as the songs of many birds it the private garden. On the practical side, we found that the kitchen was better equipped than ours at home, that we could easily barbeque at shore's edge by moonlight, that the little markets, bakery, fish vendor and restaurants right in Cabuya had all we really needed and more including smoothies and Pizza for my son. A car or 4 wheeler can be rented from Budget at Coyote Restaurant. There is a gas station in Cobano but if you run low, ask about gas in Cabuya where someone usually has some for sale. The caretaker is right next door and is extremely helpful. Buses will stop right outside the gate a few times a day and provide access to local towns and ferry services. The house is beautiful. The hammocks in the palm trees are heavenly for reading and napping. The community is quite and safe. Excitement of all kinds is easily accessible. Days spent here we the highlight of our vacation in Costa Rica. I highly recommend this property for adults and families looking for privacy, affordability, comfort, safety, adventure and more.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, tourists without a car.

We absolutely love this place. We first stayed here as a couple, and enjoyed the more adventurous things to do in the area -- hiking to the waterfalls, going out with the neighbors in their fishing boat (arranged by the very accommodating caretakers), renting a motorcycle and riding over the mountain to Mal Pais, snorkeling off Cabuya Island, and going for long hikes in Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve. Now we are a family and our young daughter loves this place as much as we do. The river and tidepool beaches are great for swimming, and she enjoys throwing pebbles in the water on the beach right in front of the cabin. We appreciate having a well-equipped kitchen for some meals, as well as being within a 5-10 minute walk of great restaurants -- The Bakery, Coyote Cafe and Celaje. The treehouse and sandy yard add to the fun for our daughter. The cabin is exactly as described, clean and bright with local artesania accents. Located along a quiet road within walking distance to Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve and close enough -- but not too close -- to the action in Montezuma. Getting to Montezuma is easy, even without a vehicle -- just hop on the local bus, or walk the 7 km into town. This cabin can't be beat if what you want is simple but comfortable accomodations that bring the outdoors in, provide the opportunity to relax and decompress, and to experience some peace and quiet in a beautiful setting.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, tourists without a car.
Owner response: I'm so glad you enjoyed the cabin!
