Beautiful Sierra forest, all-year river, Strawberry Store, riverside restaurant, and hiking trails are just outside your door. Pinecrest Lake is a mile away, and you can hike to it along the most beautiful streamside trail one can imagine. You can fish in the river in front of the cabin, at Pinecrest Lake, or on one of the many Sierra lakes and streams that abound in this area. .
The newly expanded Dodge Ridge Ski Resort offers excellent alpine and nordic skiing and is only a 15 minute drive from the cabin. Overall, the Sonora Pass area is the most scenic in the Sierra. I love this place! First of all, the location is fantastic, with the river rushing by--leave your windows open at night in the "dorm room"--the sound will sing you to sleep in seconds. We love to hike and there are so many fantastic hikes minutes away. The local store is so close and it has most everything you need--the kids are always happy to run over to get it for you--imagine that! Don't feel like cooking? Walk over to the charming Strawberry Inn--great food and they also do carry-out. (Great burgers!) The skiing at Dodge Ridge is great and gets better every year. The runs are well-groomed and have everything from beginners to the kind I don't even want to think about! We got so tired of the traffic to Tahoe, the traffic in the ski parking lots--think Squaw on the weekend--the search for a nice place to stay, etc. What a hassle! This beautiful cabin is minutes away from Dodge Ridge, there's no traffic and you can practically ski back to your car at the end of the day. Lift tickets are much cheaper (especially for seniors), the runs aren't crowded and everybody is SO NICE! And back at the cabin, you can warm up with a glass of wine by that beautiful green rock fireplace--and you can't even hear the football game downstairs! I love that, but if you like the game, the new downstairs family room is beautiful and very comfortable-- and it has its own fireplace! Also, there's a nice bar and the food is fantastic at the Steam Donkey by the Pinecrest store--you'll pass it on the way back from Dodge Ridge. Great atmosphere and service! This is a cabin for all seasons, but there's a special fragrance in the late summer--you can smell it on the way up! When we start the climb up after Sonora, my dog wakes up and starts to sniff and when I open the window, she sticks her nose out and she knows what's coming--hikes in the beautiful forest just a few feet away from the cabin--a slice of heaven for a dog, just as it is for us!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you for your Review. You are correct. The skiing and other winter sports -- and also the winter atmosphere at Strawberry/Pinecrest -- are hard to beat. There is a tobaggan hill just a few minutes walk from the cabin. The skiing at Dodge Ridge is first-rate. Another new ski lift has been added for this season. Last season, the winter snow total at Dodge Ridge was second only to Squaw Valley among all Northern and Central California ski resorts and was within 1" of the Squaw Valley total. Dodge had more snow than all the other Tahoe Region ski resorts. Anyway, we agree with you. The winter scene at Strawberry/Pinecrest/Dodge Ridge is just about perfect, especially when there is fresh snow on the ski runs. The cabin is totally set up for winter, and we're very glad you liked it. Thanks for your Review.

I've been coming to this cabin yearly for the last 10 years--first as a couple with my wife and now as a family. This cabin combines nostalgic charm (e.g. wood panel walls, relaxing couches/chairs, picnic bench dining room table, and woodburning fireplace) with modern efficiency (e.g. downstairs TV room with gas fireplace, modern appliances). I enjoy the ease of access to the beautiful river (100 ft away and great fishing), many fun hikes, lakes (Pinecrest Lake-1-2 mile beautiful walk), ski resort (2-3 miles drive distance), and Strawberry Store (150 feet away). This is a place where my body, mind, and soul can rest easily. I look forward to many more experiences in the future!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

This place is Heaven! Even our dog perks up when we head up the mountain to this cabin. First, we love how the place is decorated with green stone hearths, wagon wheel furniture, denim slipcovers, quilts on the beds, cowboys, forest trees and bears. Secondly, the cabin has everything we need to relax and be comfortable: clean, pretty, compfy furniture, and beds, great lighting, plenty of room, two fireplaces, great views, two TVs and dvd macines. Thirdly, the location has everything we need to do all the things we love best: hiking, skiing, boating, reading, swimming, fishing, ice skating, sledding, snow shoeing, biking, motorcyclling, rock hounding, target shooting, sight-seeing, shopping, gambling, roasting marshmellows, napping in the hammock, dining out and getting treats at the local general store, a minute's walk from the cabin doors. We can't wait to go up again, and highly recommend this cabin to every Sierras cabin-seeker!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

My family and I stay at this cabin every year for a week in the summer and occasionally during the other seasons as well, when we can get away! Simply put, we LOVE this place - the cabin is cozy and comfortable and has everything you need to make your vacation smooth. The owners have thought of everything you might want. Darling cowboy decor! Great location by the river - so fun for kids to pan for gold, and the rushing of the river makes for the best night's sleep ever. We like to spend a summer day on the beach at Pinecrest Lake with yummy soft serve ice cream, and if you want a hike, you can walk up the the dam and the lake from the cabin! We've had a blast skiing and sledding in the winter, too. If you are looking for a great vacation in the mountains, this is it.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you for submitting your review. We try very hard to please the many families and their friends who rent our cabin. We think about it all the time. Each season, we try to add even more features to the wonderful Strawberry experience our renters might enjoy while vacationing in the cabin. Thanks again for your review.

About the owner: Anne: Passionate about the Sierra, mountain cabins, and, especially Cabin 5. She is constantly adding new features and touches to her cabin and loves to receive feedback from her many vacationers and guests. Allan: Drone husband of Anne. Loves the cabin because of the local skiing, hiking, swimming, backpacking, and the easy availability of all the good features Anne has added to her cabin.
Why the Owner Chose Strawberry:
Sonora Pass is the most beautiful area of the Sierra, and the Pinecrest-Strawberry area is the best place to have an all-season cabin. The summers and autumns here are wonderful. The winter beauty plus the great skiing and other winter recreational activities are equally wonderful. Being located on the Stanislaus River just adds to the overall beauty of the Sierra experience.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The cabin has been extensively rebuilt with a new large downstairs family room with gas-fired mariposite rock fireplace. Kitchen and furnishings also largely new. Just out the front door is a myriad of outdoor activities including family BBQ's on the deck, hiking to the Lake, or enjoying a fine meal at the Strawberry Hotel's restaurant/bar across the road. One can drive down to the Gold Country including the historic towns of Sonora, Columbia, Twain Harte -- or up to historic Kennedy Meadows, Clark's Fork for a picnic by the river, a hike on the Pacific Crest Trail, an easy day trip to Bodie, Mono Lake, and the incredible Eastern Sierra. Then, there are warm, lazy afternoons of swimming, picnic lunches and fun on a rented party boat on Pinecrest Lake, and movies under the stars at the lake. At Natural Bridges near Columbia you can float down a small stream that passes through a mountain ridge and exits the other side. On the way you will float through three chambers with stalactites, stalagmites, and even a waterfall. There are several natural caverns offering tours. (Begin at Murphys, one of the most charming of the Gold Country towns.)
