Listen to the creek, watch the wildlife and be only a mile from town. This new home has Australian Cypress hardwood floors, indoor grill, heated by a Tulikivi (A soapstone fireplace from Finland), and cooled by canyon breezes. We lived here for several years and never felt the need for air conditioning. The home was designed to let the cool breezes cool it. However, May 2013 we are installing AC so that no one would feel any discomfort. No detail was left out on this unique layout with beautiful natural wood to create a lodge setting in a compact space. On the main floor there is one master bedroom with a king sized bed. There are two loft bedrooms accessed by a shipman’s ladder each with a queen sized bed and an additional single trundle bed. There is another raised sleeping area behind Japanese Shoji doors that houses a single mattress and toddler bed as well as a carpeted play area. Sleeping for 9 or 10 can be easily accommodated in this unique layout. Jacuzzi tub and a home office make this a place to come home and relax after a good day skiing, hiking or biking. The kitchen is fully equipped and the home includes a washer and dryer. Bring a DVD and use our 110 inch Projection screen with surround sound. The canyon road goes for 4-5 more miles and then ends in wilderness area. With the Logan to Jackson bike race and the Top of Utah Marathon both in the valley, this home is passed everyday by athletes who are training in a beautiful setting.
Outside the house is a deluxe private playground with sand box, playhouse, swings slides and an adjustable basketball hoop for any kids who want to join you. There are 10 acres of land to take a walk across the bridges along the creek. We have seen deer (almost every day), raccoons, moose, fox, rabbits, pheasants, owls, and other wildlife that live in harmony with this home. Yet we are one mile from the post office and McDonalds. We have the benefit of quiet seclusion and still close to town. It is like our own private oasis.
We have just opened this house up as a vacation rental and wish to share a dream that we created in a beautiful setting.
For weekends, we require a two night stay unless the weekend is seven or less days away.

From the moment we walked in the door we felt at home here at The Prancing Pony. I can't speak highly enough about everything! The inside of the home was stocked with whatever a family would need on a vacation. This home is one of a kind! A good sign was that our three children kept saying, "Can we go back to the house now?" or "We are going to eat at home right!" They loved it there! Unique places to sleep and the swing made it so interesting! In the evenings we snuggled up with blankies and watched movies on the projection screen which was an added bonus. The cool crisp air in the evening, the sound of the babbling brook and the shine of the moon made sleeping spectacular! (We never used a fan--totally comfortable!) The acreage around the property was a dream come true. The children spent hours exploring the stream and woods. They couldn't wait to get outside and "cross" the creek. Very refreshing! Every day we saw deer and every night we heard the owls and watched the stars. The Logan Canyon area is gorgeous! We sure wish we could have stayed another week! Everything about this stay was perfect. The owners are very accommodating, kind and there if you need them. Thank you so much for a most wonderful stay at your canyon lodge! We'll be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for your comments. Your family was a joy to have and we are so glad you were able to see Utah and Idaho and stay at our home. Come back anytime!

To start, the owners of this property are extremely nice and wonderful to work with. They gave us our privacy but were available when needed. We stayed a few nights with our four small kids and we all had a great time. Everything in this house is natural wood and hand crafted, which made it very inviting. The lofts were really neat and the play area for the smaller kids was perfect. There was one major factor that somewhat overshadowed the whole stay, though - the heat. It was in the 90s outside and it was 85 inside every day. We opened the windows at night (when it was cooler) and we closed them during the day but it was just too hot. It made sleeping uncomfortable and just hanging out was somewhat unpleasant. Maybe we just had a uniquely hot few days, but it really affected our stay. The kids couldn't sleep in the lofts or the smaller beds in the playroom because it was too hot. We all slept in the master bedroom and the living room area where it was coolest. This is still a four-star location, though. If it had air conditioning, it would five stars. The heat was worth the pleasant ambience and the experience, though. We would stay there again - just maybe not in late July :)Owner response: Thank you for bringing the lack of AC to our attention. We lived there 6 years using the canyon breezes to cool the house, but it seems that summers are getting warmer. We are putting in AC and it should be done by the end of May 2013.

We stayed for 10 days in this delightful "cabin" in the canyon. We had two of our grandchildren with us (ages 3 and 7) for all of that time, and our other four for a day or so. All the children found the house to be just what they needed and wanted. The fun play areas outside made for great "kid play." We made any number of sand foods, using sand and imagination, of course, and there were plenty of outside toys for the the kids. The swings, glider, slides, sand area, and play house created wonderful imaginary games and situations. Inside, the little "alcove" sleep areas for the two grandchildren made sleep time easy. Creative night lights, stars on the ceilings, comfy beds, etc, plus some new books to read helped the kids feel comfortable in the new surroundings. And they couldn't get enough of the swing. Each grandchild had to have a final swing before they left. My seven year-old put it this way. "This isn't a cabin! It's a mansion!" The creative use of space to provide a play area set aside for the children while being easy to monitor by parents, and the toys in that area helped everyone just relax and have a good time. It was secluded and woodsy, even though it is very close to groceries and other shopping needs. Our little ones really enjoyed hiking up the canyon and taking advantage of the Logan Acquatic Center, which has a wonderful pool for smaller and larger children at a very reasonable price. The only problem we ran into was that it was very hot in Cache Valley while we were there, so it was hard to keep the house cool. It did cool down in the evenings, but perhaps another box fan would help. We put the box fan in the play area, so that the alcove bedrooms would cool down. The children were very hot--and being from Alaska, they weren't used to heat. The owners were very accomodating and helpful, and the cooking utensils were adequate, though we would have enjoyed a muffin pan. But for the price this was an excellent value and we really had a wonderful time during our stay. Thanks so very much to the owners!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for the excellent review. We hope you come again. We have now added 3 more box fans for those times it does not cool off at night. We wish you would have given us heads up earlier and we would have delivered them immediately. It has been hotter at night than normal. Usually we can count on it dropping below 60 at night which cools everything down. We have also put in some muffin tins. We want to be sure that everyone has a great experience, so if you do come again and have needs, then give us a call and we can respond much quicker.

Everything was exceptional. The place was beautiful, fit the description perfectly and the location was fantastic. Right on the river, with an outdoor fire pit (we made smores!) The only thing negative was the roof over the shower was on a slope and anyone over 6 foot needs to duck. But a very reasonable accommodation. I would be careful with very young children as there are stairs from the entry way to the main floor and two ladders to the lofts that are steep. My adult children had no problems and the views were fantastic. A great breeze kept the place cool, especially during the evenings. This in spite of the heat wave that visited with us. The master bedroom was on the main floor and had three large windows that we opened for birds and a breeze. We saw deer and a friendly cat. Everything was in great working order and my adult children loved the projector screen. Centrally located between Logan and friends in Richmond. Several nice walking trails. Very comfortable beds and having a washer/dryer was a plus. The house itself is wood and slate tile. Very comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. Great place, great stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We loved this place, it was a great place to stay. My wife and I took our three sons, 5,7 & 17, plus our daughter and her husband. We had plenty of room and activities for everyone! I will say that if you aren't young and/or agile, the loft bedrooms would be a bit tricky. It is about an 8' foot ladder that you have to climb to get in them. But if that isn't an issue, then I highly recommend this home! We were there during a week that was in the mid-90's and there is no air conditioning, but you open the windows and let the breeze blow through while listening to the creek and the place stays very comfortable. The kids play areas were really nice, both inside and outside. We even went down to the creek and played for awhile. We made use of the large projector TV and watch a movie that evening, it was great fun. It is more of night time activity though, too much light to see the screen during the day. The home is close enough to town, maybe 5 minutes, to have the city conveniences, while allowing you to feel like you are way out in nature. I would highly recommend this home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Rusty and family - Thank you for the review. Glad to host your family. I did want to clarify that the master bedroom is on the main floor and is accessed by stairs and not a ladder. So glad the Natural Air Conditioning worked. We lived in the home for four years and were always comfortable with cool evenings and breezes.

we only had the opportunity to book one night while preparing for bike event in the cache valley but already hope to return again. most of the group of 4 of us arrived late but all agreed: not nearly enough time to enjoy this spot. the house is open and airy and comfy and clean and the location for riding and hiking and staging anything in the cache is GREAT. we're all hoping to return. thank you to the owners for being so accommodating.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Photos could not have prepared us for the beauty, warmth and comfort of the Canyon Lodge. We knew immediately we would have a good time when we were greeted so warmly by the Worthens. The lodge was exactly as we expected. It was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Our 4-day stay included having one of our married children spend the night and another brought his children up for the day. It is the perfect place for family gatherings and is especially accommodating for children with the indoor and outdoor play areas. Pushing the Japanese Shoji doors together turned it back into an adult only retreat. The 110" screen made for a special movie night. Plus -- you haven't truly experienced life until you have fallen asleep to a babbling stream outside your window. This is definitely the place to stay if you find yourself in the Logan area. There is an abundance of things to do in both Smithfield and Logan but you also don't want to miss the beautiful scenery of the surrounding canyons and recreational areas. We had a great time exploring but always looked forward to coming back to the lodge. We will definitely be going back to stay again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed at this lovely lodge when attending our daughter’s graduation from Utah State. It was perfect! The cabin was lovely and had so many extras. The surroundings were beautiful! We loved watching movies on the large screen; it was like being at a theater. It proved to be the perfect setting for a family luncheon celebration with guests from ages 1 to 80! Our only regret is we couldn’t stay longer! Thank you Tom for giving our family the perfect setting to celebrate!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We were needing to stay the weekend in the Cache/Logan area and wanted something more than a hotel room since we have 4 young children. We found this rental property and weren't quite sure what to expect. We were amazed at how perfect this property was, especially for kids. We enjoyed our stay and it was very comfortable for being in the middle of winter. Thanks for sharing this great home.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

With 8 in our party, this home worked very well for us. We'll definitely stay here again when in the area. Hardest part was figuring out the light switches, but once we got that down, it was great. Very nice home with slate and hardwood. The tulikivi wood stove was so easy to use and worked great for heat. All the comforts of home including dishwasher, washer/dryer, lots of towels, shampoo and soap, kleenex, paper towels all furnished. No skimping here! Enjoyed the projector DVD and surround sound for watching Hugo Cabret . . . almost like being in the theater. Definitely recommend this property.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
