Logan chalet description

Listen to the creek, watch the wildlife and be only a mile from town. This new home has Australian Cypress hardwood floors, indoor grill, heated by a Tulikivi (A soapstone fireplace from Finland), and cooled by canyon breezes. We lived here for several years and never felt the need for air conditioning. The home was designed to let the cool breezes cool it. However, May 2013 we are installing AC so that no one would feel any discomfort. No detail was left out on this unique layout with beautiful natural wood to create a lodge setting in a compact space. On the main floor there is one master bedroom with a king sized bed. There are two loft bedrooms accessed by a shipman’s ladder each with a queen sized bed and an additional single trundle bed. There is another raised sleeping area behind Japanese Shoji doors that houses a single mattress and toddler bed as well as a carpeted play area. Sleeping for 9 or 10 can be easily accommodated in this unique layout. Jacuzzi tub and a home office make this a place to come home and relax after a good day skiing, hiking or biking. The kitchen is fully equipped and the home includes a washer and dryer. Bring a DVD and use our 110 inch Projection screen with surround sound. The canyon road goes for 4-5 more miles and then ends in wilderness area. With the Logan to Jackson bike race and the Top of Utah Marathon both in the valley, this home is passed everyday by athletes who are training in a beautiful setting.
Outside the house is a deluxe private playground with sand box, playhouse, swings slides and an adjustable basketball hoop for any kids who want to join you. There are 10 acres of land to take a walk across the bridges along the creek. We have seen deer (almost every day), raccoons, moose, fox, rabbits, pheasants, owls, and other wildlife that live in harmony with this home. Yet we are one mile from the post office and McDonalds. We have the benefit of quiet seclusion and still close to town. It is like our own private oasis.
We have just opened this house up as a vacation rental and wish to share a dream that we created in a beautiful setting.

For weekends, we require a two night stay unless the weekend is seven or less days away.

This place is wonderful. Great location, house is big and has everything that you may need. Only one minor complain: the house was really dusty. My wife spent the first hour just dusting.

Owner response: Thank you for your review. I am so sorry that it was dusty. As the person in charge, I never believe in making excuses, as the buck always stops with us providing a wonderful property for our renters. We are usually the cleaners of the home, but were out of town and arranged for cleaning on short notice while we were gone. I am so sorry that you spent any of your vacation time, doing our cleaning. I thank you for bringing this to our attention.

We really enjoyed our stay at this great house. Tom was very helpful and welcoming. The house had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. It was the perfect place to connect with family.

My wife and I spent a lovely two weeks in this very comfortable home. As it happens, we stayed in a time of particularly cold weather with lots of snow and rain - but we never knew that while indoors, thanks to an effective and cheerful wood stove. The location is just wonderful, very close to Smithfield town (which is itself close to Logan), nestled amongst the trees in a secluded canyon. Even in the winter, with no leaves on the trees, it felt secluded and private. Any other season you'd be surrounded by greenery. We'd come back in a New York minute!

There's really no point to going to far into this -- simply put, the place is amazing, clean, modern and comfortable. The owners are very gracious, respectful and accommodating. The only reason to not stay at this property is if you're not planning on staying within 100 miles of the area! We hope to be back again next year...

The Prancing Pony was the most welcoming and heart warming vacation/rental home I've ever stayed in. It was cozy, clean, and private. My group and I had the best time ever which translated to one of the best birthday get always ever! Thank you Dr. Worthen to you and your family to opening your home to my family.

Our family wanted a quick weekend getaway up north. This was perfect. Property was just as described. Very clean, and the beds were comfortable. The location was beautiful. Quiet, and peaceful, without being completely isolated. About 10 minutes outside of Logan and just a couple of minutes from "downtown" Smithfield. The owners, Tom and Gaylen, couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating. Wish we would have had more time to stay a few extra nights. We will be back!

We loved our stay at this wonderful lodge in Smithfield, Utah. We have been coming to Logan for years for conferences and meetings at Utah State and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again for meetings at the University, it is a short drive and well worth it for the beautiful setting and comfortable accommodations. The kitchen is stocked with everything you might need and the beds are comfortable. The setting is idyllic, we saw deer in the morning and evenings yet we were minutes from restaurants and a supermarket. The owner is wonderful to work with, you won't regret your stay in this euro inspired lodge.

The inside of property met the needs of 5 grandchildren, 3 parents and 2 grandparents. It's a great getaway for kids. I agree with most of the 5 star reviews A few improvements are needed. Start with a thorough cleaning. I was always concerned that a slight breeze might dislodge some of the dust on ceiling beams during a meal. The vegetation all around is overgrown. I had to clear the paved path that's around building so our boys could " skooter " The bigger problem could be a wildfire. Today, Aug 18th, Utah has 9 active wildfires. Please read www.readyforwildfire.org. There is also serious wasp problem . Two of my grandsons were stung. There are nests allover the building and even under the picnic tables. We could not be on the outside balcony because of them. I know they can't be eliminated but numbers could be reduced. We did not meet Tom Worthen as he and his family were attending a funeral of Elmer Crow in Idaho. We read the sad but inspirational story

Owner response: Thank you for your comments. We will address them for future renters. We insure that any area that is in contact with anyone is spotless clean, but you are right that there are some beams 20 feet up that have some dust on them. I will get a ladder and take care of that this fall. I am sorry we were unable to meet you due to the funeral. This is the first time that we have missed meeting a guest and being there to take care of any needs. I will go and spray again for wasps. Our goal is to be as responsive as possible and so if there is ever is a problem, we want to be right there to spray for you. We live on the same property and are only across the creek. We are aware of wildfires but try to keep the area as natural as possible. But you are right that there were some branches that hung out over the garage driveway that wraps around to the far back of the house. We always considered this more access for us as owners as that is where we keep our equipment, but will be sure to clear those branches for anyone who wants to play there in the future. Great suggestions as we want to make this a no negative comments kind of place.

Great place. We enjoyed very much. The outdoor activities were fun(play ground, the creek, the fire pit). The house is unique and fun. The ladders and stairs were a challenge for young children (1 to 4 year olds) but worked for the rest of us. Owners were great.

Canyon Lodge turned out to be a welcome treat for our family. When have five children and there was room for all of us (cozy). It had great light coming in through the windows and a fun play area for our kids. The lofts were perfect sleeping places for our teens and the little ones slept in a quaint playroom alcove. There is only one bathroom, but it did not seem to be too big of a problem. We fell asleep to the sound of the rushing creek and cool mountain air.

                      Why the Owner Chose Logan:
It has great privacy and seclusion but within a few minutes of anything the valley has to offer. It is a very unique and open layout that is one of a kind.

Peace and quiet and being part of nature. But the warmth of the wood inside and the all natural materials such as slate and soapstone, make this very inviting. We even have a hammock swing inside to play on.
