From the moment we walked in the door we felt at home here at The Prancing Pony. I can't speak highly enough about everything! The inside of the home was stocked with whatever a family would need on a vacation. This home is one of a kind! A good sign was that our three children kept saying, "Can we go back to the house now?" or "We are going to eat at home right!" They loved it there! Unique places to sleep and the swing made it so interesting! In the evenings we snuggled up with blankies and watched movies on the projection screen which was an added bonus. The cool crisp air in the evening, the sound of the babbling brook and the shine of the moon made sleeping spectacular! (We never used a fan--totally comfortable!) The acreage around the property was a dream come true. The children spent hours exploring the stream and woods. They couldn't wait to get outside and "cross" the creek. Very refreshing! Every day we saw deer and every night we heard the owls and watched the stars. The Logan Canyon area is gorgeous! We sure wish we could have stayed another week! Everything about this stay was perfect. The owners are very accommodating, kind and there if you need them. Thank you so much for a most wonderful stay at your canyon lodge! We'll be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you for your comments. Your family was a joy to have and we are so glad you were able to see Utah and Idaho and stay at our home. Come back anytime!

To start, the owners of this property are extremely nice and wonderful to work with. They gave us our privacy but were available when needed. We stayed a few nights with our four small kids and we all had a great time. Everything in this house is natural wood and hand crafted, which made it very inviting. The lofts were really neat and the play area for the smaller kids was perfect. There was one major factor that somewhat overshadowed the whole stay, though - the heat. It was in the 90s outside and it was 85 inside every day. We opened the windows at night (when it was cooler) and we closed them during the day but it was just too hot. It made sleeping uncomfortable and just hanging out was somewhat unpleasant. Maybe we just had a uniquely hot few days, but it really affected our stay. The kids couldn't sleep in the lofts or the smaller beds in the playroom because it was too hot. We all slept in the master bedroom and the living room area where it was coolest. This is still a four-star location, though. If it had air conditioning, it would five stars. The heat was worth the pleasant ambience and the experience, though. We would stay there again - just maybe not in late July :)Owner response: Thank you for bringing the lack of AC to our attention. We lived there 6 years using the canyon breezes to cool the house, but it seems that summers are getting warmer. We are putting in AC and it should be done by the end of May 2013.

We stayed for 10 days in this delightful "cabin" in the canyon. We had two of our grandchildren with us (ages 3 and 7) for all of that time, and our other four for a day or so. All the children found the house to be just what they needed and wanted. The fun play areas outside made for great "kid play." We made any number of sand foods, using sand and imagination, of course, and there were plenty of outside toys for the the kids. The swings, glider, slides, sand area, and play house created wonderful imaginary games and situations. Inside, the little "alcove" sleep areas for the two grandchildren made sleep time easy. Creative night lights, stars on the ceilings, comfy beds, etc, plus some new books to read helped the kids feel comfortable in the new surroundings. And they couldn't get enough of the swing. Each grandchild had to have a final swing before they left. My seven year-old put it this way. "This isn't a cabin! It's a mansion!" The creative use of space to provide a play area set aside for the children while being easy to monitor by parents, and the toys in that area helped everyone just relax and have a good time. It was secluded and woodsy, even though it is very close to groceries and other shopping needs. Our little ones really enjoyed hiking up the canyon and taking advantage of the Logan Acquatic Center, which has a wonderful pool for smaller and larger children at a very reasonable price. The only problem we ran into was that it was very hot in Cache Valley while we were there, so it was hard to keep the house cool. It did cool down in the evenings, but perhaps another box fan would help. We put the box fan in the play area, so that the alcove bedrooms would cool down. The children were very hot--and being from Alaska, they weren't used to heat. The owners were very accomodating and helpful, and the cooking utensils were adequate, though we would have enjoyed a muffin pan. But for the price this was an excellent value and we really had a wonderful time during our stay. Thanks so very much to the owners!!Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for the excellent review. We hope you come again. We have now added 3 more box fans for those times it does not cool off at night. We wish you would have given us heads up earlier and we would have delivered them immediately. It has been hotter at night than normal. Usually we can count on it dropping below 60 at night which cools everything down. We have also put in some muffin tins. We want to be sure that everyone has a great experience, so if you do come again and have needs, then give us a call and we can respond much quicker.

Everything was exceptional. The place was beautiful, fit the description perfectly and the location was fantastic. Right on the river, with an outdoor fire pit (we made smores!) The only thing negative was the roof over the shower was on a slope and anyone over 6 foot needs to duck. But a very reasonable accommodation. I would be careful with very young children as there are stairs from the entry way to the main floor and two ladders to the lofts that are steep. My adult children had no problems and the views were fantastic. A great breeze kept the place cool, especially during the evenings. This in spite of the heat wave that visited with us. The master bedroom was on the main floor and had three large windows that we opened for birds and a breeze. We saw deer and a friendly cat. Everything was in great working order and my adult children loved the projector screen. Centrally located between Logan and friends in Richmond. Several nice walking trails. Very comfortable beds and having a washer/dryer was a plus. The house itself is wood and slate tile. Very comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. Great place, great stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We loved this place, it was a great place to stay. My wife and I took our three sons, 5,7 & 17, plus our daughter and her husband. We had plenty of room and activities for everyone! I will say that if you aren't young and/or agile, the loft bedrooms would be a bit tricky. It is about an 8' foot ladder that you have to climb to get in them. But if that isn't an issue, then I highly recommend this home! We were there during a week that was in the mid-90's and there is no air conditioning, but you open the windows and let the breeze blow through while listening to the creek and the place stays very comfortable. The kids play areas were really nice, both inside and outside. We even went down to the creek and played for awhile. We made use of the large projector TV and watch a movie that evening, it was great fun. It is more of night time activity though, too much light to see the screen during the day. The home is close enough to town, maybe 5 minutes, to have the city conveniences, while allowing you to feel like you are way out in nature. I would highly recommend this home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Rusty and family - Thank you for the review. Glad to host your family. I did want to clarify that the master bedroom is on the main floor and is accessed by stairs and not a ladder. So glad the Natural Air Conditioning worked. We lived in the home for four years and were always comfortable with cool evenings and breezes.

we only had the opportunity to book one night while preparing for bike event in the cache valley but already hope to return again. most of the group of 4 of us arrived late but all agreed: not nearly enough time to enjoy this spot. the house is open and airy and comfy and clean and the location for riding and hiking and staging anything in the cache is GREAT. we're all hoping to return. thank you to the owners for being so accommodating.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Photos could not have prepared us for the beauty, warmth and comfort of the Canyon Lodge. We knew immediately we would have a good time when we were greeted so warmly by the Worthens. The lodge was exactly as we expected. It was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Our 4-day stay included having one of our married children spend the night and another brought his children up for the day. It is the perfect place for family gatherings and is especially accommodating for children with the indoor and outdoor play areas. Pushing the Japanese Shoji doors together turned it back into an adult only retreat. The 110" screen made for a special movie night. Plus -- you haven't truly experienced life until you have fallen asleep to a babbling stream outside your window. This is definitely the place to stay if you find yourself in the Logan area. There is an abundance of things to do in both Smithfield and Logan but you also don't want to miss the beautiful scenery of the surrounding canyons and recreational areas. We had a great time exploring but always looked forward to coming back to the lodge. We will definitely be going back to stay again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at this lovely lodge when attending our daughter’s graduation from Utah State. It was perfect! The cabin was lovely and had so many extras. The surroundings were beautiful! We loved watching movies on the large screen; it was like being at a theater. It proved to be the perfect setting for a family luncheon celebration with guests from ages 1 to 80! Our only regret is we couldn’t stay longer! Thank you Tom for giving our family the perfect setting to celebrate!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

With 8 in our party, this home worked very well for us. We'll definitely stay here again when in the area. Hardest part was figuring out the light switches, but once we got that down, it was great. Very nice home with slate and hardwood. The tulikivi wood stove was so easy to use and worked great for heat. All the comforts of home including dishwasher, washer/dryer, lots of towels, shampoo and soap, kleenex, paper towels all furnished. No skimping here! Enjoyed the projector DVD and surround sound for watching Hugo Cabret . . . almost like being in the theater. Definitely recommend this property.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I were impressed by the comfortable and cozy accommodations afforded at the cabin. We stayed one night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We cooked steaks on the indoor grill, cuddled by the fire, watched a nice movie on the projector television, and enjoyed a nice warm bubble bath. In the evening, we fell asleep to the lullaby of the creek below. We highly recommend this cabin for your stay. The cabin truly is a home away from home. All you need to bring is food. Everything else is there for your comfort. Thanks again for the nice experience, Tom.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is a great house with wonderful hosts. Tom and Gayleen went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and warmly welcomed. The house is super cool. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because it's listed as 3 bedrooms but 2 were loft bedrooms accessed by ladders that while interesting and added to the kid's sense of adventure could be a problem for folks older than 12 and 13. There are also a lot of stairs to reach the interior of the house. The location served our family quite well. We highly recommend the Logan Canyon area. There is a great visitor bureau in the town of Logan as well. Some of our highlights were hiking in Smithfield Canyon and meeting some neighbors, soaking at Maple Grove hotsprings outside of Thatcher ID, Gossner dairy factory, horseback riding in Huntsville, UT and skiing Snowbasin.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Location in private, quiet canyon close to Logan is ideal. The spotless lodge is gorgeous and functional: cypress floors and glow from dual-sided Tulikivi fireplace creates a warm, inviting atmosphere; full kitchen with superb appliances facilitates gourmet meal preparation; light from a wall of windows floods main king bedroom; and large bathroom serves all sleeping areas with central location. Most important, Tom is a delightful host. Look forward to returning and will recommend to friends.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

missing some basics for a vacation rental (cable tv, wine corkscrew, pizza cutter), but overall it was a great bunkhouse and we enjoyed our stay. the fireplace is one of a kind, the finishing touches are world class and the projection screen tv was fun. the surrounding area was pretty and good for exploring. one issue to note was the large accumulation of box elder bugs that just hung out in the kitchen and bathroom. i found one crawling on our six month old's neck, another that dropped into some food that was cooking on the stove and others that dropped onto us while sitting on the couch was the biggest drawback. at any time you could look around and see 3-4 of them on the windows or in the sinks.Owner response: Thank you for your review. We always like to make the place better and appreciate any comments. We have now put in a corkscrew and pizza cutter, thanks for the heads up. The home does have cable, but not hundreds of channels that are possible from cable. The home is in a setting surrounded by trees and as temperatures warm up, the Box Elder bugs do come out in the spring but only for 1-2 days. It is something we spray for, but they are a nuisance. For those of you unfamiliar with Box Elder bugs, they are not dirty or disease ridden like roaches, but are more of a pest like a fly that exists in every home in a country setting in Northern Utah. I am sorry that they created any kind of negative experience for your stay. Now that you have made us aware of them we will work to make sure that no one has an experience like this again. I am sorry that this happened to you as you can see from the reviews it has never been a problem. It just happened to be the one weekend the bugs came out from winter.

It's always hard to tell a great place from pictures and description because you never know what you're booking until you actually go to the place. Well, this quaint and put together cabin was absolutely a great surprise!! It's well furnished and extremely up to date. The location was perfect. Close to downtown Logan, but still hidden so you felt "away" from it all. Tom was extremely easy and welcoming to work with. He made the experience wonderful for us. We even were greeted with a Martinelli and a kind welcoming note. I'm beyond thrilled with our weekend getaway to this cabin, and I literally can't wait to go there again! Which I for sure will be doing;). Thanks so much Tom!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you Melissa. I know with a larger group, one bottle of Martinelli's doesn't too far. Can't wait to have you back with just your family (or your group).

This beautiful Canyon Lodge is the best of everything you could want in a vacation getaway. Our family, including four children under 10, comfortably enjoyed an extended stay at this luxurious home, close enough for easy access to Logan’s dining and entertainment yet tucked away as our own secluded Canyon escape from everything. Disneyland’s magic and animatronics can not compete with the wildlife and natural surroundings found here; 3 or 4 deer were seen almost daily grazing through the forest next to the beautiful, soothing creek. We slept each night with the windows open, sending in the creek’s peaceful sounds. The private playground area and basketball hoop were our kids’ favorite and watching movies each night on the 110 inch projection screen became our nightly ritual. The beautiful hardwood floors are immaculate. Our stay was during Fall-end into early Winter, so the soapstone fireplace was a cozy experience our family still talks about. Large master bedroom, two loft bedrooms, and two additional child sleeping areas made the home feel it was built for us. Carpeted play area for our small children as well. Our family enjoyed long sunset walks up the canyon road that ended in a wilderness area where our kids enjoyed exploring. The owners were SO helpful and prompt with any needs or questions that arose, as well as very knowledgeable about directions and the events taking place in Logan during our stay. Very clean, beautiful home. Our family plans to return again and again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This beautiful chalet is a one-of-a-kind rental perfect for families on vacation. Everything was handled promptly by the owners and the lodgings definitely exceeded our expectations. The owner was readily accessible for any concerns or questions. The accommodations are fabulously unique and the view was exquisite. The pictures of the lodge on the site do not do it justice. From the play area in the background, to the games in the toy room, to the basketball hoop--everything is well thought out for the travelling family. The sound of the babbling brook is perfectly hypnotic. The property is very clean and well-maintained. We travelled all the way from Florida and Michigan to stay here and would come back again in a heartbeat! One note: Must be able to climb steps.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

This was a wonderful cabin for a family get-away! Our five children (ages 5-17) all had something to enjoy at the cabin: the playground, hiking trails, fire-pit, and projector screen. The charming lay-out of the cabin was also very fun for our family. The children all enjoyed the lofts and play-room and my husband and I loved the coziness of the fireplace. We had such a fantastic stay with our 4 children (9,5 and 2 yr old twins). We always have such a hard time finding a place that is kid friendly and affordable. My children are still talking about our wonderful weekend away. We had such a great time watching movies on the theater screen and of course they loved the jetted tub. The pictures do not do this place justice. Beautiful place and so great for children. They have two separate little toddler bed areas that are so cozy and cute. They loved the glow in the dark stars on the ceiling with the black light and are of course the indoor hammock. I was so impressed with all the toys you had available for the children as well. Next time I won't even bother bringing any of my own. What a great place you have and we look forward to returning many times.
