Tropical Whim is a Balinese style three bedroom villa located on the grounds of Palmetto Bay Plantation on the beautiful north coast of Roatan. It is adjacent to a nature preserve and bird sanctuary and only a short walk to the beach.
The large, louvered, mahogany sliding doors open to the great room space that includes the living room, dining room, and kitchen. The vaulted ceilings and polished wood floors add to the feeling of spaciousness. In addition to the master bedroom/bathroom suite with double sinks and shower, there are two bedrooms that share an additional bathroom. The home sleeps 5 guests comfortably and 6 guests if needed, an excellent choice for families. The ceiling fans along with the natural breezes make sleeping comfortable and the bedrooms have air conditioning, if needed.
The wrap around deck can be accessed by living room, dining room, and bedrooms. Read a book while relaxing in the Adirondack chairs or laze in the hammock while listening to the birds and other sounds of nature. Wireless internet is not available at the house but is available at the main Palmetto building for a nominal additional charge.
Palmetto Bay Plantation is a beautiful eco-friendly resort located on the scenic north shore of Roatan and is surrounded by many world-class coral reef dive sites. Enjoy the sandy beaches and tropical vegetation featuring tropical fruits and flowers. Trip Advisor (2009) awarded palmetto Bay Plantation 'Best for Romance.'
Tropical Whim is a 1-2 minute walk from the house to beach and the main building of Palmetto Bay, where you find the reception desk, bar, restaurant, dive shop, and information about the island and tours available. The restaurant offers a varied menu and overlooks the pool area. There is live entertainment on weekends.
With easy access to the second largest barrier reef in the world, you can take advantage of snorkeling and diving adventures. The on-site dive shop offers training classes and certification.
You can stroll along the groomed beach, schedule a massage with the Palmetto Bay Plantation's personal masseuse, or relax in a hammock under the palapa at the end of the pier with the clear Caribbean water around you.
Make Tropical Whim your home while enjoying the sights, sounds, and beauty of Roatan!

The house was great and was more than I expected. It was also nice to have use of Palmetto Bay's facilities, especially the restaurant. It was a peaceful quiet location away from the crowds but the beach was just ok. I was expecting soft sand and crystal clear water but that was not the case. The staff at Palmetto Bay was wonderful but I hate to say just did not seem to have it together. I was told the house would be cleaned daily-never was. I asked for a broom so I could sweep droppings from a bat that was trapped in the house-was told house would be cleaned of course never was. Pool was being cleaned in the middle of the day- just as I was going in for a swim. Kayak paddles broken with no replacement. Shuttle to airport 45 minutes late with no one really knowing why. I could go on. These were minor inconveniences (except airport shuttle) but I was just surprised, based on what Palmetto Bay charges for their villas, at their level of service. That said it is a nice place to stay but would recommend renting a vehicle if you want to explore.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners.

I went to Roatan last spring with a group of friends and had a fabulous time! It was my first trip to Roatan and the experience exceeded all of my expectations. I challenge anyone to find a more relaxing vacation spot. It was truly my idea of a perfect vacation...lots of sun and warm weather, great pool and beaches, plenty of opportunities for sailing and snorkeling (I highly recommmend chartering a sailboat...one of the best days of the trip!!), pristine accomodations with the amenities of home, and most importantly, awesome food every night at Palmetto Bay. We dined outside every night, surrounded by gorgeous scenery and lush vegetation, a beautiful setting sun, the beach in the background, and we dined on fresh fish or whatever fabulous special had been concocted by the Chefs. I also recommend getting the massage on the dock overlooking the water....awesome!! Before I went, I was completely stressed out, and I returned home feeling healthy, happy, relaxed and ready to go again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

This was our first time traveling to the island of Roatan. This resort house was fantastic and allowed us to rest, relax and forget about the stresses of everyday life. The house was spacious and extremely close to the main resort where there was a variety of meals to choose from, bar and pool. We had a private massage at the house, kayaked, swam, read on the beach, went snorkeling and the list could go on and on. We did as much or as little as we wanted each day. We would recommend this establishment to all.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.

This was our first visit to the beautiful Island of Roatan. The accomadations were spacious and relaxing which allowed us to kick up our feet, forget about the stresses of life by listening to the local sounds of mother nature. We were within walking distance of the Ocean, beach and main resort which provided a variety food choices, drinks, entertainment and a pool. We are counting the days until we can return to this special place.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, age 55+.

I have had the pleasure of vacationing in Roatan 3 times, staying in this home each time. It is PERFECT! It is new construction, with 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, and a full kitchen. The bedrooms have air conditioning, a rare treat. We kept drinks & snacks in the unit and ate most meals at the restaurant, but you could easily cook 3 meals a day at home. The wraparound porch is my favorite feature of the house. The hammocks are the ultimate spot to nap or read! There is a wide selection of books, puzzles, and games for your use, but you won't find yourself hanging out at home much -- Roatan is just too beautiful. I love Palmetto Bay Plantation because I prefer not to be part of a "herd" while on vacation. The Palmetto staff gets to know you on a first-name basis, and we got to know them. The food is very good, not fancy but they do a nice job. Banana pancakes were our favorite! Palmetto is a small resort. There are several dozen homes, but usually not more than 20-30 guests at one time -- so we got VIP treatment. There were rarely more than a couple people at the pool at any one time, and securing a snorkeling/diving time, sailing trip, or massage was easy and hassle-free. The property and surroundings are lush and unspoiled. One of our favorite activities was to take a long walk down the beach (either direction). We found warm, shallow pools in an otherwise 6" deep area -- perfect for swimming and finding huge starfish. There is almost no development as far as the eye can see, so it feels like you're exploring an undiscovered island! As you look for a vacation rental, you may have been warned about the bugs in Roatan. Yes, they exist. Yes, they are bad if you don't wear bugspray. After 3 visits, we know to stay coated at all times to avoid days of unpleasant itching. We noted that bugspray is probably more important than sunscreen in Roatan -- if you keep that in mind, the bugs won't be an issue. All in all, I highly recommend Tropical Whim at Palmetto Bay Plantation. This place is a perfect blend of rustic getaway and comfortable resort. Prepare to unwind, relax, and enjoy the beauty of Roatan!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, age 55+.
