If you want to get away from it all, yet have access to everything, Casa Largo is the place. Nestled among monkeys and parrots on the mountaintop above the quaint fishing village of Garza, our villa is the perfect retreat for a couple, several couples, or a small family seeking seclusion and relaxation. While home, sit under the comfortable shade of our wrap-around porch and enjoy the breathtaking view of Playa Guiones. Do yoga, read, nap, watch birds, swim in our gorgeous infinity pool, or soak in our luxury jacuzzi overlooking the jungle. In the evenings, grill and dine al fresco, watch the sunset, and linger in one of lounge area under the stars. When you want to get out, just drive to one of the many restaurants just three to six miles away in Garza, Esperanza, and Nosara. If you like the beach, Playa Garza is just five minutes down the hill and the popular surfing beach, Playa Guiones, is just 20 minutes away. Samara Beach and Playa Carillo are only thirty- minutes south.
There are many activities that can be booked in Nosara including deep-sea fishing, surf lessons, monkey tours, river tours, horseback riding, canopy tours, and turtle tours on Ostional Beach. But if you are like us, you will find that you have everything you need right here on the hill. If you need to work and stay connected to the world, we also have US satellite TV and Internet access.
The main villa is large with cathedral ceilings and screened-in windows for ventilation. The villa includes two master bedrooms, one with a king-sized bed and the second with two singles that can also be pushed together to form a king. Both bedrooms are large with full baths. All beds have quality linens. Because of the high ceilings and wrap-around porch, the house stays very cool and does not need air-conditioning.
Just a few steps across the back lawn from the main villa is a Private Casita with a queen-size bed, bathroom and outdoor shower. There is also a small reading area in the room. There is also an air-conditioning unit here, although we find we rarely need it. The Casita enjoys its own private terrace with built-in lounge area and designer cushions, perfect for sunning in the day and stargazing at night. The Casita terrace also leads to a six-person, luxury jacuzzi right on the edge of the jungle, giving a spectacular view of the treetops and the ocean. The jacuzzi is solar-powered and kept at a comfortable, warm degree for day-around use. A second terrace rises high over the canopies, putting you literally in the jungle. From here, relax in one of our hammocks under the shade of the llallo and teak lanai. Howler monkeys travel very close to the terrace and it is the perfect spot for some memorable nature photography.
Casa Largo is the perfect house for a couple or couples, or a small family with adult kids. The Casita allows for additional privacy while not being too far from the main property. It is also the preferred sleeping area for anyone who wants to sleep open air with a mosquito net and enjoy the sounds of nature. We do not recommend our home for small children due to the height of the terraces and the openness of the pool and home with nature. There is of course a gourmet kitchen with all amenities.
If rugged luxury is your cup of tea, then Casa Largo is the place for you.
For people interested in mind/body wellness, the area is one the Blue Zone's in the world, featured by National Geographic. A Blue Zone is a region of the world where people commonly live past one hundred due to the area's healthy environment and living styles. The Nosara area is also home to the Blue Spirit Retreat Center, affiliated with New York's Omega Center, and the Nosara Yoga Institute. Our home is an easy (ten-minute) driving distance of both of these places and offers a peaceful setting to return home to after classes. Organic vegetables and meats are available on weekends at the farmer's market. Our home's water is solar-powered and gravity-delivered. Our drinking water comes from our own community well and is potable and healthy.

Amazing. Six of us (three couples) spent a 10-day vacation in Garza, making this house our home base. Nicer than any hotel I've ever stayed at (and I'm very picky), this house - with it's private casita - gave us more than enough room to sun, swim, relax and enjoy the beautiful weather. The pool and view are - by far - the best part of this experience. We spent countless hours bobbing in the water and staring off into the endless Pacific Ocean. A great, shaded veranda was our outdoor dining room every night and nearby restaurants and beautiful beaches provided us with lots of daily destinations. If you go, ask Karen about arranging for a chef. Our experience was delicious and all the more relaxing thanks to the excellent cooking our local chef provided. I can't recommend this enough. I can't wait to return. Karen and Stephen were also wonderful to work with, helping us navigate everything from directions to grocery stores.Did you find this review helpful? Owner info
Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: We are a couple in our 40s who left the jungles of New York for those of Costa Rica. I am working on a novel and Stephen runs a business. We never knew such a peaceful existence was possible. Come experience for yourselves!
Why the Owner Chose Nosara:
Stephen has been coming here for many years and knows the area well. Vista Royal is a safe, gated community with few, but fabulous neighbors. For us, it's the perfect location because we are in the hills away from the dust, crowds and crime with spectacular views of the ocean that frankly make you never want to leave home.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We have expansive floral gardens and avocado, lime, orange, and banana trees. The monkeys come right up to the trees near the terraces. Sunsets are spectacular year round. But most of all, we love the quiet and that when we look out over the valley in the evening we see only three lights.
