Pamper yourself in this spacious (771 sq ft /67 sq m), well-appointed, one bedroom apartment! It is located in a beautifully-preserved 19th century building in the historic Bastille neighborhood, close to the Marais, the Seine and the Canal St. Martin, in the up-and-coming 11th arrondissement.

THE APARTMENT
Our apartment is located on the second floor (third floor American), and after you climb up the recently renovated, broad stairwell, you’ll be met by our English-speaking manager. She will give you the keys, show you around your temporary home and demonstrate how to operate all appliances. If you have any problems during your stay, you can contact her.

(She will be fully available if anything comes up--but of course you are welcome to contact us if needed).

The kitchen is the first room on the left. It is fully equipped with carefully chosen appliances and cooking utensils, and laid out with generous counter space. To the left of the kitchen, the spacious, marble-walled bathroom reveals a level of luxury truly unique in a Paris apartment. There is a multi-function shower that doubles as a private steam bath, as well a beautifully-large bathtub, just the thing for soaking those tired limbs after a vigorous day of sight-seeing. A heated towel rack keeps your towels cozy and warm for you after your bath or shower. A mirrored vanity with ample counter and storage space is spacious enough for more than one person to get ready in the morning. Also, you will also find tucked away here a top-of-the-line, full-sized Miele washer and dryer.

Next to the kitchen, the large dining room is just the place to enjoy what you brought home from the Richard Lenoir market, with elegant seating for four under an antique crystal chandelier. Note the original 19th century moldings throughout the apartment but particularly here above the chandelier. This room also features inlaid oak flooring, set in a herringbone pattern (point d' Hongrie in French).

Enjoy cozy seating in the salon or living room, which includes a deep wine-velvet sofa facing its own marble fireplace, a comfy black leather club chair--above you will be another crystal chandelier. The comfortable sofa will fold out to provide a large bed with adequate space for two adults. You also have the ability to close off the living room and dining room if are using the sofabed, thus providing privacy and quiet for all guests.

Relax and watch digital French or British TV (with a few American channels as well) on a new LCD television. Bring your laptop and enjoy free wifi. If you need to use the telephone, calls are free to the US, UK, continental Europe and Asia. This salon also features a recently added set of closets and desk, where a printer has been set-up for printing of your boarding passes or Parisian itineraries.

The bedroom features a marble fireplace as well as antique 19th century end tables that flank a custom, hand-made Treca mattress. The thick-paned, double-windows will eliminate street noise and the outside shutters can be closed if you need a dark room for sleeping.

Finally, even what is usually the most ignored room in any Paris apartment has been given the luxury treatment: the W.C. is in marble, floor to ceiling.

LOCATION AND NEIGHBORHOOD
Our apartment is located in the historic Bastille neighborhood, just enough off the beaten tourist track to provide a calm respite, but still close enough to all those things that make this city indelibly Paris. Literally a block away is the incredible Richard Lenoir food market that no less an authority than David Lebovitz has pronounced one of the best in the city (don’t miss the rotisserie chickens and the incredible fresh fish stations). On the same esplanade where the market comes alive on Thursdays and Sundays can be found your local metro stop--the Breguet-Sabin station.

But if you’ve slept in on market day and/or just need a few comestibles to tide you over, there is a new Carrefour City grocery store, conveniently situated literally around the corner. This store is a smaller version of the grand “hypermarché” chainstore found all over France but it still has fresh fruits, veggies, fish and meat, and carries an impressively sized and priced wine selection. If you want to comparison-shop your groceries and wine, there are two other grocery stories a few blocks away.

And if you don’t want to shop for groceries and would prefer a croissant, chausson de pomme or pain au chocolat to go with your morning coffee? Two blocks away is the Becaert Boulangerie which our sweet tooth can personally vouch for. For more serious eating and drinking and just across from the boulangerie is the neighborhood favorite bar/restaurant called Café de l' Industrie, which takes up three corners of the intersection of rues Sedaine and Saint-Sabin.

But food and drink are certainly not the only attraction. Two blocks up is the famous pedestrian street Rue de la Roquette, which is a lively stroll past shops of every kind in the daytime and a vibrant, club/restaurant scene at night. Catch an opera or ballet at the the Bastille opera house, just ten minutes down Richard Lenoir boulevard. And for more leisurely strolls, go west to the Place des Vosges and Marais, or north to the Canal St. Martin. Or head south to the Seine and the Ile Saint Louis. All these Paris landmarks are reachable within an easy twenty minutes, with the Pere Lachaise cemetery and the famous Aligre market just a bit further away on foot. Of course, with the Breguet-Sabin metro station two blocks away and the Bastille metro station ten minutes away, you have a direct connection to the rest of Paris.

My wife and I recently spent a wonderful 9-day vacation in Paris. We loved the city, the neighborhood (Bastille), and Cathy and Alan's apartment. Most appreciated was the well equipped kitchen. We took advantage of the open air market and ate in most nights, and then splurged on a few extraordinary restaurants within walking distance. If I could give this review more that 5 stars, I certainly would!

This is our 8th visit to Paris and our 7th apartment rental. This apartment has been our very best experience, by far. The apartment is located in a typical Parisien neighbourhood away from the touristy sights but easily accessible to the Metro and many buses- another wonderful way to experience living in Paris. The apartment itself is beautifully renovatd with a very modern spacious kitchen, large bathroom with shower and soaker tub.Having a washer and dryer is one of our pre requisites when choosing an apartment- less clothes to pack on our trip! There is a separate toilet-a wonderful convenience! The size and the layout of the apartment is fantastic. If someone wants to have a nap or a sleep - in, the bedroom is situated away from the rest of the apartment and so, is very quiet.Having Dee the apartment manager meet us and show us how things worked was a bonus. She was most helpful The only caution I would add is that there are 30 steps to the apartment on the second floor. If you have any mobility issues , this may be a concern. Cathy and Alan were very helpful when making the booking and in providing wonderful tips and suggestions for the neighbourhood. It was a pleasure and an excellent experience for us. Thank you Cathy and Alan. We will return. PS Love the art work

For our first time in Paris, we wanted more than a stale hotel room, we wanted someplace that could feel like home, and this apartment did. Far enough away from the tourist areas that you can see real Parisiens going about their daily lives, but close enough so you are minutes away from the action. The nearest Metro station, the Bréguet-Sabin station on line 5 became our stop, and is literately five minutes from the apartment. When we arrived, we were met by the apartment manager, Dee and she was so delightful and helpful. The apartment building is beautiful and the apartment was clean and inviting. The pictures in the apartments listing were exactly what we found, though the side table in the bedroom now have lights, which was really nice. The fully equipped kitchen was wonderful to have, as were the washer and dryer. The beds were comfortable, there was nothing like falling into them after a hard day of sightseeing. The Carrefour City market, nearly across the street from the apartment, was a big help and we bought most of our groceries there. Around the corner there is an American Bar-B-Q restaurant that was very good and it was a nice way to ease ourselves into the world of Paris café/restaurant life. Communication with the owners went very smoothly and the information they sent us about the area was very helpful. We hope to return to Paris in the near future and would not think twice about returning to this apartment or recommending it to our friends and family. Thank you for everything.

We stayed at Cathy and Alan's Paris Apartment during the 2012 Winter Break. The apartment was lovely and we had a great time. My husband and I and our two boys ages 8 and 14 were very comfortable in the apartment, and the apartment was very clean with very nice furnishings. You will love the marble bath and the well equiped kitchen! Thanks to Cathy and Alan and to the apartment manager, Dee for making our trip to Paris so wonderful!

My husband and I have been to Paris several times, each time renting an apartment. I started our search for this trip the begining of 2012, looked at several locations. We are soooo glad we selected this one. The apartment has an atmosphere of total comfort, from the time we entered the apartment we felt we were home. Dee, apt mgr, was very helpful with information about the apartment and available when needed after she left. The marble bathroom and WC were beautiful as were the wood floors. Fully equipped kitchen for that gourmet chef is great when you go to the Farmers Market on Richard Lenoir Blvd, right down the street, Thursday and Sundays and want to create that gourmet meal. Access to the Metro for all the Paris sites is right around the corner as are several restaurants. The pictures of the apartment are exactly the way the apt. looks, beautiful!!! Cathy and Alan were very helpful with any question we had. This is the one you want to use while in Paris.

There are many Paris apartments listed on vrbo.com. We feel we chose very well with this neat and spacious apartment. Very helpful and prompt communication both by the owners and the local property manager made all the arrangements and our time there go smoothly. This charming apartment looks just like the pictures on the website. Near two métro lines (5 & 8) and numerous bus lines, getting around is easy. Small grocery stores, an excellent 'boulangerie' and a variety of restaurants are all close at hand. The nearby Place de la Bastille is a very lively neighborhood, but just a couple blocks away the apartment is on a corner of two quiet streets. We stayed a month, and felt very much at home.

The listing and the other reviews don't lie. This apartment is beautiful, spacious, clean, comfortable, fully-equipped (more so than any other place I've rented in France, and I have done this a lot), and it's located in a great neighborhood that's within easy walking distance of public transportation, markets, great restaurants, and many tourist destinations. It is truly a welcoming place to come "home" to at the end of the day. Everything went smoothly, from reservation, to arrival and being met by the helpful apartment manager, to check-out. This place is definitely worth the rental price. You won't be disappointed.

We decided for our 2nd time in Paris to stay at an apartment. Was a little apprehensive about doing this but what a great experience. Our booking, on line communication, and all the details were handled professionally. The apartment is exactly how you see it. It has more than enough room for 2 or 4 people. The neighbourhood is lively and the market on Sunday and Thursday is well worth visiting. The actual apartment was super clean, the electric shower was a nice treat, a bottle of wine was left for us. I would not hesitate to recommend staying here.. out of the tourist area and in a great little apartment. The metro is very close for heading into downtown and we had no issues at all. I would say this place is well worth the money.

We loved it here! We spent 2 beautiful weeks in the apartment and are so glad we selected this one in Paris! We couldn’t have picked a better location; and the spaciousness and cleanliness of the apartment were outstanding. This accommodation was perfect for our honeymoon- and my first time in Paris! We had breakfast every day in the apartment- picked up delicious and affordable fresh food at the many neighbourhood grocery stores (especially the one directly across the street from the apartment). We also picked up some great items at the Richard Lenoir Blvd market. We loved having a dishwasher in the kitchen as it just made everything so easy. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we wanted and more (i.e. induction stove top). It was fantastic having everything we needed in the kitchen (and in the apartment) and we enjoyed sitting in the dining room enjoying our meal with lots of sunlight shining in. We also appreciated the iPod dock and were able to play great music when we were in the apartment. We enjoyed relaxing at the end of a busy day in the living room (we brought our iPad and were able to benefit from the free internet offered) and appreciated the free calls to Canada so we could stay in touch with our family. The bed was very comfortable in the bedroom so we were able to get re-energized for our next day filled with adventure. It was also a treat to have a huge bathroom that included a technologically advanced shower, soaker bathtub, lots of counter space and a washer and drier! The apartment really felt like home. Almost every day we hopped on the subway (about a 5 minute walk from the apartment) and were able to get around the city extremely easily (we highly recommend the weekly metro pass which allows you unlimited travel). One of our favourite neighbourhoods was the Marais, which had some of the best restaurants in the city in our opinion. We could even walk home! We were very fond of the Bastille neighbourhood and spent time there almost daily. We also thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to Versailles and absolutely loved the gardens in the city (i.e. Jardin du Luxembourg and also the Rodin Sculpture garden). Bring comfortable shoes! We have already given many friends who are planning trips to Paris the contact information for Cathy at this apartment. We hope to one day return to Paris and stay in the apartment again! Thank you!!!

This apartment is superbly located 1.5 blocks off Bd Richard Lenoir and about 3 blocks from the Bastille. There are lots or restaurants, bars bakeries, and a food store all within a couple of blocks. The Richard Lenoir Blvd hosts a major market on Thursday and Saturday - its a real treasure! The apartment is on the 2nd floor, very clean, well maintained with completely new bathrooms and kitchen, top quality appliance and washer and dryer. Space is a little tight for 4 adults but certainly doable. Booking and check-in went without a hitch and there is a great supply of Paris information and maps there which we found very useful. The apartment manager, Dee, was also very helpful. There is a lovely wine store just before Richard with an old Parisian gent who's full of stores and speak excellent English and the pub adjacent to the Velib bike share stand also has a couple of staff who love to practice the English. I really like the key chip automatic door opening system and felt security was excellent. It's up a tricky flight of stairs so probably not for the physically handicapped. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day stay, and would definitely do it again.

About the owner: A few years ago, when our girls were younger we spent a memorable year in France... in Aix-en-Provence. The girls became fluent in French. We made life-long friends. It was hard to leave. Finding this apartment in Paris was a way not to have to leave France for good. Alan and Cathy
