Keywords: LUXURY OCEAN FRONT HOME ON PRIVATE ISLAND (PUGET SOUND)
Located on Hat (Gedney) Island, 5 miles from Everett (Port Garder), approximately 30 minutes North of Seattle, this no-bank waterfront house has breathtaking 180' views of Whidbey Island, Camano Island, Puget Sound and Olympic mountains. This is a private island community with a marina, rated nine-hole golf course and a tennis court. Private foot ferry access (note there is no ferry service on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays), no pavement, and a lack of commercial activity on the island make for a peaceful get-away from the hustle and bustle.
This vacation house consists of two wings connected by a huge Tigerwood deck. Construction was completed in 2009. The two-story bedroom wing has four bedrooms, two with private balconies and the others also open directly onto the deck. ALL bedrooms have ocean views. Three bedrooms have queen beds, and one has bunkbeds. The glass enclosed kitchen/dining/living area has large sliding doors, providing great views whether open or closed.
The house is fully equipped for your comfort and convenience. Amenities include a wood-burning stove/fireplace, stereo with CD player, TV for DVD player, games, puzzles, books, and kites. Fully appointed gourmet kitchen of bamboo cabinetry, granite countertops and stainless appliances also looks out over the ocean. Laundry facilities. Duvet covered down comforters for all seasons and top quality mattresses. Great cell coverage. Internet not provided; we recommend a cell modem if you need to connect while on vacation.
There are many things to do such as kayaking, walking, swimming, crabbing, clamming, scuba diving, golfing, beach combing, small boating, berry picking or just relaxing with a good book and enjoying the eagles and sunsets.
This peaceful natural setting is a great place for a half week or full week long vacation for all seasons. Minimum rental memorial Day to Labor Day is 4 nights, otherwise there is a strict two night minimum. No rentals Nov-Feb as property is winterized.

Very nice home with wide open living room, kitchen (GREAT ROOM) and deck with windows all around. Great views and relaxing. Sleeping quarters are in adjacent building connected by patio. There are a lot of rules and requirements so if you are not one to follow rules and to keep things neat and organized, this place is not for you! BBQ is electric and small----- somewhat of a problem for large groups.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for your feedback! With our island host's help, we have shortened the departure check-out list. We also bought a better power cord for the electric grill, thanks to this guest's expert advice that a different cord would mean more heat. We also bought a charcoal grill, for those who prefer the old-fashioned bricket way of doing things.

What an absolutely gorgeous home! Thank you for sharing it. The home and views were spectacular, plus we got to see lots of wildlife (whales, otters, seals, dall porpoises and bald eagles). The house on Hat Island exceeded our expectations in all respects, with the exception of the spring wet weather, which the owners obviously had no control. The house is pristine, the amenities top of the line and setting unbelievable. We saw grey whales within 50 yds from our view in the great room. It does take a little effort to get there (foot ferry does not travel each day), but our kids thought it was an adventure.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

I have stayed at this property on two occasions and cannot wait to go back. The home itself is just gorgeous: the residential wing contains clean, comfortable, and beautifully appointed accomodations with plent of privacy; the "main' house, with the kitchen and living room, are a perfect place to relax and enjoy time with friends and family. The home is right on the beach, so you are never far from beachcombing or playing in the water. And, of course, the views are breathtaking. The hosts, Steve and Leslie, have created an oaisis that is perfect for short and long stays. They are very organized, so visitors have all the necessary details about the property, traveling, etc., available. I highly recommend this property and expect to visit again soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This home was the most beautiful and unique beach home I have stayed at. If I could have any home in the world I would take this one. The emenities were top of the line. My friends, family, and I truly enjoyed ourselves. Also, working with the owners were easy and they were very prompt with my refund and deposit!!!! I have already suggested to several people to rent this vacation home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We had a fantastic time and enjoyed the sunsets immensely. Everyone was fascinated with how nice the place was and we could not have asked for a better setup. We enjoyed the crab pots (caught 7!) and also captured some mussels and cooked a feast.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

The set up of the home is great for groups of women and an inspiring place in which to make creative work happen...We spent our time talking, eating, sharing stories, resting, and laughing. We walked on the beach and watched the birds, gazed in wonder at the clouds and enjoyed naps. I listened to the frogs late at night and simply enjoyed the sounds all around me. It was a good place to be.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

About the owner: Professional couple with three teens. We live and work in Seattle, and stay at our second home on Hat Island as many weekends as possible, since its just 1/2 hour north of Seattle. Our boys love to explore the wetlands and use the kayaks and bring friends. We love to catch crab, bake blackberry crumble, and entertain friends out on the beach.
Why the Owner Chose Hat Island (AKA Gedney Island):
Hat Island is a breathtakingly beautiful secluded island not far from our Seattle city home. With the help of a fabulous local architect and talented designer, we built this custom home between 2006 and 2009 with the goal of creating a quiet, relaxing, fun, family vacation spot. We put a priority on amenities for great sleeping and great cooking and relaxing while reading or enjoying the spectacular panoramic water view. All the bedrooms have a great view; two have private balconies.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We see lots of wildlife: whales passing through in the springtime, eagles, seals, birds, and rabbits. Hiking around the island is a great way to get in a 4.5 mile walk at low tide. Crabbing and clamming and berry picking (in season) are available outside your door.
Three free recreational kayaks are available for use, and free use of island vehicle.
There are some rules due to the nature of a private island HOA and the geography. For example, the Home Owner's Association has rules about fires and water consumption, and we ask guests not to disturb the neighbors or drive on the grass. Some rules help us leave the house in pleasing shape for the next guests - like cleaning the grill and putting away dishes the last day - things that are required in most resort/house rentals. And we try to keep the cleaning fee low by having guests put borrowed items away on the last day. We have an on-island host to helps out, and we use the same checklist for ourselves that we give to guests!
