We had a lovely week in Oceanside. House was big enough for us with 2 teenagers and dog , but still cozy and comfy. Gorgeous views of the ocean from up and downstairs. Kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed. Loved having the fireplace. And Easy exit! Not a lot of requirements for leaving the property at the end, just pile up the laundry and take out the trash, I Have stayed in places where you need to plan on hour or more just to get the place ready for the clean up crew, I appreciate making it simple. Beach access is not right out the door but very close and fairly secluded. Had a nice weenie roast on the beach and days of beach combing. Owner was helpful and responsive sending a good list of information about the house and the area. We will certainly come back again, and would recommend to friends. Be sure and note the link on this page for the facebook page of the property for more pictures.

It was late January, I'd been working quite a few 60 hour weeks and, frankly, I was burnt out. I wanted to find the perfect place to relax, shut off my laptop and explore. Being an East Coast expat without much time spent on the West Coast, I was unsure of what to expect of the Oregon coast. Sure I'd heard all of the good things, but I figured I've visited nearly ever coast from New York to Florida, how could this be any different? I arrived late, another long evening at work delayed my departure, and had only the sound of the ocean to tip me off to where I was. I spent an hour on the oceanside deck staring into the stars, anticipating the arrival of sunrise and a weekend away. When I awoke the next morning, I was taken-aback by what I saw. Blue. Blue ocean, blue skies. The world stretched on forever from the home's vantage point, framed by natural rock and the horizon a ship passed in the distance. I couldn't help but wonder if the crew-members of that ship weren't looking up and thinking of a similar retreat they'd soon be on. I sat again on the ocean facing deck thinking I truly hadn't viewed something like this back East. The next two days were filled with treks to the shore, scaling the various rock formations below and late night talks with friends. It was just what anyone looking to escape would ever need.

The property description and reviews accurately highlight this great beach home... it's off the beaten track and comfy with funky charm, exactly what we were looking for. The home was well-suited to our party of adults and small children, and we certainly appreciated the well-appointed kitchen and endless sea views. We hope to return to the northern Oregon Coast sooner than later...

My husband, three young kids, and I had a great week while staying at this home overlooking the beautiful Short Beach, just a mile up the road from Oceanside. The home was clean; my husband and I noticed a musty smell since the home is not often occupied, and a smoky smell from the pellet stove downstairs, but our kids couldn't smell it and couldn't have cared less :). It was lovely weather anyway so we made a point of keeping the sliding doors open and let the breeze air the house out. The home had all of the ameneties we needed for cooking and bathroom use; we used the charcoal grill to do dogs and burgers and s'mores (there are skewers in the kitchen). I appreciated the fact that the furniture was not freaky cast-offs, and I loved the Pope clock. The kiddos had fun roaming around the little trail that goes around the house and goofing with the little rope swing out back. It was an easy and fun walk from the home to the road and the Short Beach steps. It was fairly steep, but the kids never complained and were always gung-ho about going back down the steps day after day! The beach is incredibly beautiful; from the seastack perched on the shore to the ones further out to sea, the scenery was nice, and since it was July there was a good layer of sand at the shoreline. There are loads of rocks to walk over to get to the sand, but even they are awesome: I have never been to a beach better for rockhounding. It was fascinating. We also visited the Cape Meares lighthouse, the beaches at Oceanside, Netarts, and Cape Lookout; The Fish Peddler restaurant in Bay City, the Tillamook Air Museum, the Tillamook Farmer's Market, and, of course, the cheese factory. There was plenty to do to keep us busy, and plenty of time to relax. The owner sent us a well-thought out packet of information that kept us in the know and on track. The house may be on the other side of the driveway from the ocean, but that was absolutely fine. The neighbors were friendly and quiet, the view was super, and we didn't have to deal with scores upon scores of tourists (excepting said cheese factory). Thank you for the opportunity to stay in your awesome beach house.

This rental is a quiet little gem and you can't beat the price. We only had 5 in our party but I could see how this home could accommodate many more than that. It is kid friendly though the balcony railing slats were a little wide for our liking. The kitchen was well stocked with basic cooking necessities and it had a spectacular view. The beach area below the house's road is pretty rocky and the trek down is as described; very steep. However, Oceanside beach is extremely close and is wonderful. I would recommend a restaurant called Brewin in the Wind if you head to Oceanside. They even had a few vegetarian/vegan selections as well as fresh crab and shrimp specials. The owner was a little slow to respond but great in every other way. I would definitely recommend this home.

I must get back to this wonderful home and explore more of Oregon's gem coastline. The house is a perfect jumping off point for exploration or quiet walks along it's nearby, nearly private, beach. Perfect ocean views from the living room and kitchen allow you to endlessly drink in the ocean's beauty. The house is incredibly cozy with a modern flare decor and all the amenities one would need - soup to nuts. Super comfy beds and nice sheets with lofty down blankets. Perfect for a couple, group of friends, or a family getaway. Superb!! I must go back!

The gorgeous ocean view and near-empty beaches made for my best winter holidays in years! Cooking a feast was easy in the spacious kitchen, but enjoying it while looking out over the water and listening to the surf was the highlight of my stay. The house was immaculate and comfortable- I really enjoyed the mix of modern and kitsch in the decor. I was so sad to leave!

Our 3 days stay in Oceanside was awsome. We did get rain one day but that did not stop us. The house on the beach was excellent and the view was awsome. The only request that I would make for a future winter stay is dry wood for the fireplace. I may suggest that sufficient would be kept in the garage were it can stay dry. Other than that everytging was great!

Owner response: Thanks for the review and firewood suggestion. We'll make sure that some wood is moved to the garage!

I recently stayed at this home. It is very nice....nice view through the other houses. The only thing I would say is the hike down to the beach is quite steep; and you will get a workout !! It is pretty though. It was nice not to have to wash the beddiing and towels before we left like a lot of other places do even though you are paying a cleaning fee. I definitely recommend Oceanside.....one of my favorite places on the Coast !! Cape Meares Lighthouse is beautiful !!

Had a great time staying at this house for a long weekend. The view from the deck is AMAZING, as noted in the description. The accommodations were comfortable for the seven people in our party. The drive from Portland takes you through some incredible scenery, and there are all kinds of fun outdoors activities to do. Be sure to check out the Cape Mears Lighthouse and the Octopus Tree (one of the biggest trees I've ever seen). Also, the Tillamook Cheese Factory is one of the better tourist traps I've been to, complete with some amazing ice cream. I'd definitely recommend this house to those either looking for a nice relaxing time away or for those looking to get out and enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, biking and even crabbing.

Hard to beat this lovely house for charm, spectacular ocean view, and location on Oregon's north coast. We had a larger group (7 people) and a smaller group (4) people over 2 weeks time. Comfortable spaces for all, including a fully-equipped kitchen, fireplace, and laundry. IKEA furniture adds style. There is an abundant collection of DVD's for those needing entertainment. The beach area below the house's road is accessed by a charming walk through a lovely forest; though the steps down to the beach are steep and need caution if one is not sure-footed. You are well-rewarded for the efforts - from fresh mussels to agates and surprise caves and waterfalls, this beach will help you wash away all ills. Owner offers a canoe for the adventurous....2 of our group took it out and set fresh crab traps. About 24 large Dungeness crabs were served up for dinner that evening! Add on a bottle of wine from the Williamette Valley and it just doesn't get any better!

We loved sitting on the deck in the evening watching the setting sun. The only thing missing were the whales -maybe next time!! We hope to be able to visit again and would definitely recommend it. This beautiful beach house comes with my highest recommendation. The house is beautifully stocked and accommodated 10 of us comfortably. The wraparound balcony/porch has a breathtaking ocean view; a perfect place to sit in the adirondack chairs and watch the sun rise and set. We also enjoyed a dinner of fresh mussels picked that day from the beach below! A short drive (or very long bike ride) from Portland, there's adventure and relaxation to be had here. The only problem was that we couldn't stay longer.

SHELLFISH! That was the theme of my recent stay at this cozy, charming, brilliantly located guesthouse overlooking the beach at Oceanside. The picture windows with 180 degree views of the Pacific were the only distraction as my friends and I gorged on mussels and oysters galore - all picked from the bounty of the aforementioned ocean. The house is well appointed, with plenty of sleeping options, 2 bathrooms, 2 fireplaces, and a deck to seal the deal. I really liked the carpet in the main room. Oregon is notorious for fickle weather, so as the clouds rolled on the evening we were there, a spot on the comfy floor next to the wood burning stove was coveted by all the guests. Truly a slice of heaven on a secluded Oregon beach.

Wow - I had such an amazing time at this Oceanside home! The kitchen, living room and wrap-around deck have amazing views of the ocean - and everything is perfectly oriented to fill you up with seaside beauty. From Adirondack chairs on the deck to a great chaise lounge by the window, you'd be hard pressed to find a bad seat in the house. It's a short drive to Pacific City, but you feel far away in this peaceful little town perched on the shore. There's a great beach for adventuring a short stroll away, and plenty of tidepools and shells to discover as you comb the beach below. I am really happy that we chose to stay in Oceanside and can't wait to get back. 100% comfortable and well-appointed - you'll be set with all the necessities for a wonderful weekend escape. Enjoy!

we had the ocassion to visit the Ocean and Lighthouse View Home on Private Road last week (April 30 - May 6, 2011) and in a word it was perfect! pristine clean, well equipped (i missed not having a blender but that is not even worth mentioning), and very comfortable. i have stayed at other houses in Oceanside and while i enjoyed the expansive ocean views and people watching on the beach, the hand-me-down furniture was lacking. by choosing this place (and we would like to return, Patrick and Kate willing) we felt at home immediately! it was all about the view but still we brought some movies and probably didn't need to as there were lots to choose from. we settled in whether at the private beach or on the cozy furniture and read and picnicked and relaxed. a comment i have read on this house that i found off-putting was that it was grandma-ish. that isn't my style so while anticipating doilies and chinz i was quite surprised to see Ikea and modern decor. the grandma label does this place a great disservice. i cannot endorse the accommodations or the helpful hosts enough. Patrick and Kate were a dream to deal with. stop reading already, and book your next visit to this slice of (Oregon) heaven!

This was a great find on short notice. Quiet location with close beach access. Owner provided great detailed instructions on local eats and activities, as well as information about the house. It was difficult to tell from the pics online, but I was hoping the house was on the beach side of the street, but it wasn't so the view of the ocean was partially obstructed by a smaller house, telephone wires, poles and such. We enjoyed very much though for our short stay.

Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners.

Owner response: Thanks for the review! Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and sorry about the confusion around which side of the street the house is on. I'll try to make that more clear in the description.

I spent a weekend here reading, finding agates on the beach (the only Oregon beach I've see with agates!), watching the seals play in the surf, and wondering how the heck they built a light house on a small rock so far out in the ocean. This is a quiet alternative to the busier, more touristy coast experience. And the crab from Netarts Bay is devine.

This house creates the perfect beach getaway! It is on the most beautiful stretch of the Oregon coast, and while the house is relaxed and private, there are plenty of adventures nearby, including great hikes, surfing and crabbing (to name a few). I've even seen whales from the front porch! The house itself is comfortable and clean and a great place for friends or family, as the bedrooms are private while the common kitchen/dining/living area is large and good for gathering and socializing and looking out and the waves and sunset!

This is a lovely house with a fabulous view, plenty of sleeping room, a well stocked kitchen, and easy access (down a big flight of stairs) to a really cool beach with lots of amazing tide-pooling. We've been going to the coast over New Year's for the past few years and this house is the best we've found! -The living room is not huge, but we were 8 adults and we all managed to watch a movie together. -The kitchen is good space for two or three people to work in together. -We slept upstairs, but downstairs is very spacious and sleeps plenty of people as well. -The weather over the weekend was perfect! I know this has nothing to do with the house rental, but it was certainly welcomed! We'd love to rent this house again in the coming year and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great retreat at the Oregon coast.

This getaway is a my favorite coastal destination. Whenever my girlfriend and I need to escape Portland and recharge at the coast, this is our go-to place. The drive is quick and our minds are clear before the car is unpacked. The house overlooks the Pacific where we cook tasty meals, drink coffee and watch storms roll in from the West. Once we even saw whales! Netarts Bay is close by and amazing for catching Dungeness crab. The most eclectic path winds down to the beach 100 ft from the front door and we always end up hunting the agates washed ashore while strolling with coffee each morning we are there. I highly recommend this coastal gem.

A group of six of us spent a great weekend at this comfortable, well-maintained and lovely house. It is equipped with a completely outfitted kitchen and attractive, comfortable furnishings, it has great views of the ocean and a rugged, rocky bay and it has quick access to the beach below. You really don't even have to leave the house to totally enjoy the coast. We left wishing we could stay another week!

Patrick and Kate's place is amazing! So quiet and relaxing, I watched the waves and birds migrating for hours. I loved waking up in the morning and walking along what, with only a few parking spots, is almost a private beach. And we're excited to go back!

Lovely spot. Great for walks, hanging out by the fire, watching the sea from the porch, indulgent cooking.

This is a perfect getaway house. The views are spectacular and serene. The continuous expanse of west windows fills the house with an ocean view. It is a short walk/hike down the bluff to a small private beach and a few minute drive into Oceanside. The scale of the house is really nice in that it feels comfortable both in intimate groups and larger groups. The beds are super comfy and the showers nice and hot. The kitchen is very well stocked with dishes and cooking gear that you need to prepare a fabulous meal. It was wonderful to just to relax in front of the fire place while watching old movies with the ocean view in the background. We definitely recommend this rental. Note that the main level of the house is on the 2nd level which could be a concern for those with difficulties climbing stairs.

What a great house! The description's accurate--and the view is as good as promised. It's obvious the owner spend a lot of time here as everything is very well maintained. Wonderful as a quiet escape, or a place to spend a long weekend catching up with friends. I'm already looking forward to the next trip: books by the fire, cooking staring at the sea, exploring the beach, the octopus tree... it's a great place.

We had a fabulous stay at this wonderful vacation home. The house is on a quiet street within easy walking distance to the quiet beach. The home has beautiful views and it would be easy to sit on the deck all day just watching the ocean.... or if it's chilly out just curled up on the couch watching the ocean through the big front room windows. The house is spacious and clean and very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you would need for cooking and you will be cooking at home since once you arrive you won't want to leave. We would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway with sunset dinners on the deck and long walks on the beach.
