This is a comfortable and well-decorated "Pied-à-terre," an ideal accommodation for a small family or for two couples traveling together.

In French a "Pied-à-terre" is a "home-away-from-home" - sometimes quite small, often a second family residence. Our "Pied-à- terre" is situated in Cadenet, a medieval village in the heart of the Luberon Natural Park and in the heart of Provence.

Cadenet is lively and picturesque and an ideal home-base for touring all of Provence. It is 30 minutes from Aix-en-Provence, 45 minutes from Marseille Airport, and 45 minutes from Avignon with its TGV station (direct line to Paris and London).

ACCOMODATION: Located in the heart of Cadenet, the "Pied-à-Terre" is south-facing, and has a calm, welcoming atmosphere. The patio doors in the light-filled living room open onto a 24m² terrace with panoramic views over the roofs of the village, the Durance River Valley and the Montagne Sainte Victoire. There is also a small, sunny back garden with an olive tree and aromatic Provençal herbs.

This recently restored village house has an surface area of 75 m2 inside. On the ground floor the large bedroom has an adjacent full bathroom. This bedroom gives onto the little garden. There is also a small child's bedroom and second toilet/washroom right next to the main bedroom.

Upstairs there's a spacious open-plan living room, kitchen, and dining area -all comfortably appointed, and leading out onto the large well-furnished terrace. The kitchen has a large dining table, a small refrigerator with freezer compartment, an oven, and four cooking rings. There are plenty of utensils, pots and pans, etc.

Above the living room is a 12m² sleeping loft, with an exceptionally comfortable pullout sofa bed. The loft can serve either as a second bedroom - it is well protected from below by curtains - or as a quiet reading area.


THE VILLAGE OF CADENET: The 'vieux village' (old town) of Cadenet, where the "Pied à Terre" is situated, is very pretty with its shady squares, old fountains and spectacular hilltop ruins. It is lively all year-round, and less 'touristy' than some of the more famous villages of the Luberon. It has many excellent shops selling all the essentials and a lot of non-essentials, a couple of very cosy cafés and some excellent restaurants, including Reine Sammut's "La Fenière", which has one star in the prestigious Michelin Guide.

Centrally located for touring and exploring the major attractions of Aix, Avignon, Arles, and the Camargue, Cadenet is within easy driving distance of the well-known hilltop villages, medieval fortresses, and ruined priories of Provence . The village also offers an authentic taste of life in a typical Provençal village. Its Monday morning street market is considered one of the best in the area.

SIGHTSEEING: Just a mile or so north of here lies the fashionable village of Lourmarin. Further on you can visit the famous ochre quarries and ochre-coloured houses in Roussillon, the spectacular village of Gordes, the 13th century Cistercian abbey of Sénanque as well as the beautiful town of Isle sur la Sorgue with its famous weekend Antiques markets.

Within easy reach are the walled city of Avignon and the Palais des Papes (Popes’ Palace) or Aix-en-Provence, a beautiful spa town famous for its café terraces shaded by plane trees and Arles, with its Roman amphitheater and medieval cathedral.
