Modern Anini Beach-Home - Only 85 Seconds Stroll to the Water
Year Purchased: 2000
Why the Owner Chose Anini Beach
We fell in love with Anini Beach when we were on our honeymoon 30 years ago! We discovered it quite by accident and felt that if we ever had the resources to buy a home there we would feel blessed.
In the meantime, we rented several homes on Anini for family vacations. Our kids learned to snorkel there, and three of our children went on to become certified divers. The beautiful lagoon reminded us very much of some Tahitian- Society islands, our other favorite paradise. We especially loved the lagoon with its many shades of blue and green, the false kamani trees, the waves crashing over the reef, and the view of Kilauea lighthouse in the distance. By choosing to buy property on Anini, we knew we could enjoy the beautiful scenery, swim, snorkel and kayak in the lagoon, sit and watch the spectacular summer sunsets. We also liked the tranquility of Anini, but appreciated the fact that it's only five minutes or so to Princeville or Kilauea. We've also enjoyed snorkeling and have seen many turtles, spotted eagle rays, an octopus, and many moray eels in addition to the countless tropical fish.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Our home is so close to the beach! Just a minute's walk down the picturesque beach path and you're there! It's near enough to bring the kayak, the cooler, beach chairs; although, Leslie often just brings a good book and a cup of coffee!
We love to sit on the lanai and admire the many shades of green and all the different kinds of palm trees. We enjoy tropical gardening and and have plumeria trees, heliconias, anthuriums, hibiscus, and many others. Leslie is also experimenting with water gardening! Also on the lanai is our bird feeder, which attracts cardinals, doves and raucous java sparrows. The big backyard is great for children to play and their parents can watch from the lanai.
Inside our Hawaiian cottage are two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and a "bonus" room that can be used for sleeping or watching TV. Leslie is always making more tropical quilts and gets inspired by her surroundings) and her enthusiasm has resulted in some of our guests visiting our great local fabric shops and designing their own quilts!
Anini Beach picnic area and departure point for swiming out to under-water canyon just within the inner reef (excellent snorkeling)and turtle spotting
Great place to sit on tree limbs and watch sunset/rise over the water only 85 seconds level stroll to the home
Owner's Map of Anini Beach
We are Leslie and Bob Weatherwax from Granite Bay and Lake Tahoe, California. We own Anini Ohana Hale and the other home on the property, Hale La'au Pohaku. Bob is a semi-retired FounderCEO of an energy consulting firm since 1981and Leslie is a retired speech therapist in public schools. Our six children are grown and now we live with the two youngest "adultolescent" sons and three lively dogs (two Shelties and A Patterdale terrier). We also have eight grandchildren, of whom the youngest two are adopted orphans from Ethiopia. We love to travel, and have enjoyed many adventures on every continent except Antarctica. We especially love the tropics. And of French Polynesia, The West and East Indies, the Amazon basin, Papua New Guinea, tropical Queensland, and sub-Saharan Africa, we think Kaua'i is the most beautiful!. We enjoy birdwatching, gardening, kayaking, snorkeling and swiming. In addition, Leslie loves to quilt and has made about 30 tropical wall hangings and bedspreads for both our homes in Kaua'i.

We stayed at the guest house behind the main house which made it quiet and secluded with the only noise being rain and the birds off in the jungle. We loved watching all the colorful birds that came to the feeder. The house was beauitifully decorated with all the conveniences you would need and really makes you feel like you are at home. Anini beach is a short walk away and by road you are not far from the lighthouse, Princeville, Hanalei and the other North Shore Beaches. The next time we come to Kauai would definitely stay here again.

Anini Ohana Hale is the perfect place to stay! It is only a short walk to the beach and then you can snorkel and relax as long as you want. The beach is never crowded and is one of the best snorkeling spots on the island! Everything you could want or need is there and they keep the house in great condition. The many quilts on the walls are beautiful and the house has a very relaxed feel. Unlike a hotel, it is quiet! The only things you hear are the birds outside:) The owners have thought of everything in regards to making your stay so comfortable, that it really feels like your “home away from home”. My husband and I have stayed there 2 or 3 times now and will definitely be back again!

We stayed at the Ohana house with our 3 year-old twins and one and a half year-old toddler. It was a perfect location. We could walk across the street to one of the most child-friendly beaches on Kauai. There were plenty of beach toys to borrow from the house, and even a kayak; One of the favorite memories of the twins is kayaking in the lagoon and seeing sea turtles. The house itself was fun and safe for the kids (very minor child-proofing was required -but all very easy such as moving phones, etc.). The layout of the house is ideal. It is sectioned into two portions, allowing adults to remain awake in the upper portion while children sleep quietly in the lower portion. The house also has a large backyard that was private and perfect for playtime away from the beach. Everyone truely enjoyed our time at Ohana and the twins keep asking when we can go back to "our Hawaii house."
Owner response:Per the recommendation above, Ohana is ideal for families with children. Plenty of places to run around on what we think is the safest beach on Kauai and maybe, thanks to the double reef, the safest in all the Hawaiian islands. The home has baby/toddler furniture as well as a fully equipped kitchen. A separate DVD player and 2nd TV in the "child's" portion of the home affords a quiet place for somewhat older children to relax between adventures a bit away from their parents. With kayaking, snorkeling, wind and board surfing, and bogie and skim boarding all within a mile, there is plenty of very nearby activities for kids of all ages.
Recommended for:Families with young children.
This Home Made Our Vacation Really Special!!

My wife and I travelled to Kauai on 8/6/10 to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We decided that rather than stay in a noisy and crowded resort, we would find a nice quiet house tucked away from the bustle, and that's exactly what we found at Anini Ohana Hale. The photos on VRBO only give you a taste of what the house is actually like. When we arrived, we were left breathless at how beautiful the house is. it's exceptionally well maintained and spotlessly clean. It's spacious and beautifully decorated. The house is not equipped with central A/C but the ceiling fans in each room as well as the additional floor fans provided in the closets are more than adequate to keep the home cool. Plus the house is tucked away under a canopy of trees which also go a long way toward keeping the house cool and pleasant. The owners are extremely friendly, helpful, accommodating and knowledgeable. They provide you with very detailed instructions about the use of the house as well as providing an abundance of information about the surrounding area which came in very handy as we were first time visitors to Kauai. This house is actually the smaller of two homes and it sits just behind the larger one. We had two different sets of "neighbors" in the main house during our stay and they were all delightful. If the front house is occupied, you might pass one another coming or going during the day, or perhaps shout a friendly "good morning" to one another, but the proximity of the main house did absolutely nothing to lessen our enjoyment of our house. My wife and I enjoyed plenty of quiet and privacy. The house is fully stocked with multiple sets of towels, and linens. The washer and dryer was invaluable, especially after a day hiking or on the beach. The kitchen has every appliance you might need. (Toaster, coffeemaker, even a waffle maker) There are two bathrooms. The one in the front is very nice and has a tub, toilet, and sink. However the one one in the back actually juts out of the back of the house and has many windows giving it an airy, outdoor feel. There is a huge tiled shower back there which is tremendously refreshing after a day of outdoor fun. The beach is not visible from the house, but as described, it takes only about a minute to walk to it from the front door. The owners have provided beach chairs, boogie boards and even a two-person kayak for use during your stay. We can't recommend this house more highly. We will definitely rent this home again!
