LOCATION: Sand Castle I is located mid-way between Clearwater Beach and St. Petersburg Beach in the city of Indian Shores, about 30 minutes from Tampa International Airport, 90 minutes from Orlando and about 10 miles west of I-75.
ACCOMODATIONS: Condo, 2 Bedrooms + Den, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6) and under the building parking.
ABOUT THE AREA: Indian Shores is located on a barrier island in the Gulf of Mexico. The area has beautiful wide white sand beaches, and is close to golf courses, malls and other shopping and a great variety of entertainment venues. The area is home to the NFL Buccaneers, the NHL Lightning and the American League Tampa Bay Rays. Busch Gardens is about 45 minutes away and the multiple parks of Disney plus Sea World and Universal Studios are only about 90 minutes away. Bike, motorbike and boat rentals are available across the street. John’s Pass with charter fishing, boat rentals, water sport activities, shops and restaurants is about 5 miles down the beach. Other attractions in the immediate Tampa Bay area include Adventure Island, the Florida Aquarium, Sunken Gardens and the Lowry Park Zoo.
Nearby cities such as Sarasota, Bradenton and Tarpon Springs offer a wide variety of additional attractions.
There are many excellent restaurants including The Pub just across the street, Crabby Bill’s, PJ’s Oyster Bar, Guppy’s and the five star Salt Rock Grill, all within a few minutes drive. These and many others offer fresh seafood and other favorites, several with water front dining.
ABOUT THE CONDO: Our condo at Sand Castle I is a direct Gulf-front condo with great views of the beach and Gulf of Mexico from our 3rd floor balcony. Watch the beach and sunsets from the large 23 foot balcony with sliding glass doors from the living room and master bedroom. The master bedroom has a king size bed and private bath. The second bedroom has a queen size and a single bed. The den has a queen sleeper sofa. Both bedrooms and the living room have flat screen TVs and DVD players. The living room has a small stereo system with a CD player. The unit has wi-fi internet service. The kitchen and both bathrooms have been remodeled and the unit is freshly painted and tastefully decorated. The kitchen is fully equipped with new appliances, cooking utensils and dishes. The unit is equipped with a full sized washer and dryer. The balcony is equiped with adjustable electric shutters that function as great sun shades on hot, sunny afternoons.
The Sandcastle I complex has a large beach-side pool and hot tub, a sauna and a games room with ping pong, a lending library, and free Wireless Internet service. The beachfront area has a lush tropical garden, barbeque area and picnic tables overlooking the Gulf. Each condo has designated reserved parking and the space for our condo is under the building. There is also guest parking on site.
The Suncoast Beach Trolley provides service between Clearwater Beach and St. Petersburg Beach (stops near the building) and is a convenient way to get around the beach area.
Our condo is managed by a local property management company that oversees many of the rentals in our building. Their office is conveniently located just up the street.

My Wife and I have stayed here the last two years in February. This unit has been very well maintained with many upgrades during these two years. Kitchen has everything you could ask for and very well organized. Property and pool area maintained immaculately. Owner very helpful in every way and very nice to deal with. Great restaurants nearby and very centrally located. Unit has everything you could ask for to enjoy a great holiday.

We would very much like to publically thank the Mckinnons for opening there home to us. It was more than perfect. The owner was extremely responsive to our pre trip questions and his agent was prompt though and helpful. The photos do not do the unit justice, new furnishings are comfortable and rooms tastefully decorated.The unit was very clean and well kept. Every amenity necessary was provided. Lovely landscaping and spectacular sunsets. Only place like it on the beach. We couldn't have been happier. The location of Sandcastle I is perfect and with such an awesome beachfront that we never wanted to venture to any other beach. The property and grounds were attended to daily and the cabana and umbrella just outside the unit was very reasonable to rent for the week. Our son said the bed was so comfortable that he didn't want to get up! We enjoyed our sunset cruise from John's Pass as well as a visit to Universal only a short drive from the condo (90min) made for a fun adventure. We had a fantastic experience at Guppys just down the street so much so that we went back the next night. Best food in Indian Shores. We hope to return next year and will make sure to book Unit 307 at Sandcastle I when we do, the best family vacation ever! Thank you so much.

Arrived to a broken screen door (more on this later). Not a flashy place, you get what you pay for. Cheap furniture and bedding. Not enough glasses. Towels were very small and could have used some softner. Would have made them feel a little less like sand paper. Back sliding glass door impossible to open easily and the squeak it made could wake up the entire condo. Lock on that door didn't work. Master bath is tiny. Not enough room to dry your hair with someone else in the room and got extremely hot in there. Ice maker on refrigerator didn't work. Required that dishes be washed or put in dishwasher but there was no dish washing soap for either. That would have been nice. We left and a couple of weeks later got billed for the broken screen door closure. The nerve of them!! I called and complained and got the charged reversed after I was lectured that when I stayed on one of their properties again I need to let them know up front. Stay again?? Not in this place nor with this rental company. Pass on this one. You can do better for the money.

Owner response: Neither we as owners nor our management agent was aware of any dissatisfaction on the part of this renter until they complained about being charged for the broken door closer. Our agent felt the charge was warranted but reversed it when the renter objected. The screen door and closer were new in October 2011. All needed repairs have been completed. We believe we have a nicely furnished rental unit equipped with up to date appliances, furnishings, utensils, dishes and accessories. It has been remodeled and updated with new bathrooms, kitchen cabinets, doors and moldings and tile floors except in the bedrooms. We update the unit and replace items on a rotating basis as appropriate. The refrigerator, a French door model, was new in 2010 as was the full size dryer. The carpet in the bedrooms was replaced in 2011 and the living room sofas, chair, entertainment center and tables and lamps were replaced early this year. The unit has three relatively new flat screen TVs, all with DVD players. Free Wi-Fi was added in 2011. We believe the dishes, glasses, flatware and cooking utensils are adequate and appropriate for a unit our size but it does require that they be washed on a regular basis. As with most rental condos, we supply the furnishings and equipment but not the expendable supplies beyond a starter quantity. We regret that this renter was dissatisfied but feel that we provide a nice, appropriately furnished and equipped condo where up to six individuals can enjoy a vacation. We have a number of repeat renters, several for multiple years, two of whom have already renewed for 2013. We believe it is a great place, at a reasonable price, to enjoy a beach front view of the Gulf of Mexico.

I can say I highly recommend this condo in the Sandcastle building. It was spacious and clean. It was well decorated and updated with everything we could possibly need for our vacation. You can tell the owners have made this their 'home away from home'. The location was excellent. There was plenty to do close by. You are an easy trip into Tampa to the aquarium and Bush Gardens or just a quick trip down the road to mini golf, shopping and great food. And I have to say, the beach here was perfect. It was white and soft and the ocean was warm. We will be back for sure!!
