The Barn House is a unique and beautiful home that was once truly a barn. In 2001 it was transformed to become something quite magical, and it is now a treasured country experience made available to you. Whether you are a group of two or many...family, group of friends, business group, retreats..the Barn House provides an opportunity for an experience instead of merely an event. The beauty of country will surround you inside and out, with views that hold their own magic with each season, and the interior of the barn with it's wood, stone and stained glass, will leave you in awe as you explore all it offers.
When you rent the Barn House, it is fully furnished with all you probably will need, and if something additional is needed, we will do our best in the tradition of country hospitality, to accommodate you...and to make your stay a treasured memory.
Whether you plan to visit the many attractions in the area...the wineries, the Field of Dreams, the Riverboat Museum, Galena, ski at Sundown, or you plan to just enjoy the peacefulness and serenity of the country, the Barn House will meet your needs.
It isn't possible in words or pictures to fully capture the beauty of the Barn House and the country surroundings -- you must experience it yourself. You will then know why...heaven and earth do meet at the Barn House.
Keywords: The Barn House is a full home rental, where you have the entire home to share with your family/group to make your time together an unforgettable experience.

Our family enjoyed our stay at the Barn very much. The kitchen with its commercial stove and fridge made our meals easy to fix and it is stocked with every utensil you may need for cooking, baking, etc. We loved the views and enjoyed watching deer graze near by with two pair binoculars provided. The kitchen and dining and living room are beautiful with space to spare for dining and gathering for games and fun. It also had a huge family room with big screen tv and sectional down stairs We had plenty of room. We enjoyed the skeeball, bean bag toss and karaoke. Tony and Gerarda were most helpful and Gerarda made special cookies to surprise us and they were delicious and appreciated by all the grandkids. You would enjoy your stay at the barn. The only thing that I think would add to the fun their would be a ping pong table or pool table for even more family fun. Sincerely, The Hilmer'sRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

The Barn House is a pretty neat property. It has several beds/baths to accomodate a large group. We had some kids in our group and they had plenty of room to run outside. The owners even provided baby gates for the stairs! The outdoor space is great, with plenty of tables and chairs, a grill, games/toys, etc. The kids enjoyed feeding carrots to the horses outside and playing on the swingset. I would liken this property to a bed and breakfast more than a hotel or resort. The owner is at the house often, to the point that you feel you are staying WITH her. It is not uncommon for the owner to walk right in the house unexpectedly while you are sitting there eating breakfast. There is no privacy. The one other problem we had was one of the downstairs bathrooms was completely missed by the cleaners... hair all over the tub surround and a dirty toilet. I am guessing this was just an error to miss this room, as the rest of the place was very clean. The kitchen has every gadget and cooking utensil known to man so you really do not need to bring anything for cooking except food. The beds are very comfortable and there is plenty of room over three floors to spread out. Overall it was a neat place to stay for our annual family gathering.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: The Barn House is not a bed and breakfast as you rent the entire home, and yet it is more like a guest house than a basic rental home as we also live on the property and personally oversee the Barn House. As you can tell by the pictures and the description, this is a unique home and we provide many amenities to our guests -- we also greet you when you come, show you through the home and do what we can to make your stay a special one. Included with that would be respect for your privacy. It is our common practice to knock and wait for acknowledgement to enter the home if we come to bring in something you need or requested, or stop in to see if you might need anything especially if you are here for a longer stay. But with great respect for the wonderful family who wrote this review, those who thought I came in unannounced may not have seen that someone signaled me to come in after seeing or hearing me at the door or what I interpreted as a signal to come in. I appreciate the feedback on their concerns and will use them for improvement, and I am grateful that, overall, they found the Barn House to be a pretty neat property as we found them to be pretty neat family, and were honored to share our home with them.

The Barn House is truly as beautiful and comfortable as it looks on this website and the owners are very helpful and accommodating. We were there for a weekend as part of a group of 12 friends, and we rode our bikes both Saturday and Sunday on the Dubuque Heritage Nature Trail, which is especially scenic between Epworth and Durango. The Epworth trailhead for this biking/walking trail is just two or three miles down Gun Club Road from the Barn House. The Park Farm Winery is also just two or three miles in the opposite direction, a wonderful place for an aperitif, with views over the rolling countryside that are beautiful--but no more beautiful than the views from the Barn House itself!Did you find this review helpful? We could not have found a better place to host family while in Iowa for our son's wedding. There was so much room to spread out, everyone was comfortable. The pictures are great but there is so much that cannot be captured with photography - it is a truly beautiful home. Tony & Gerarda were amazing hosts, always available if we had a question or needed something. It was easy to find and within a decent distance for all our comings and goings. After the long days associated with a wedding, it truly felt like we were going home for the night and were able to completly relax. It is on our list of places we would like to return to someday!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We enjoyed the New Year's weekend at the Barn House. It was an inviting "home" where we had the opportunity to spend time with our 4 kids, their spouses and our 10 grandchildren (ages 5-16). All under one roof but so spacious that we were never cramped and with the two huge tables in the main area, we spent one night playing cards and game boards all together in one area. Other times the 7 granddaughters who slept in the loft area played up there and the 3 grandsons played play station in the downstairs while the adults could enjoy the main floor - a few adult beverages around the fireplace playing Loaded Questions and being quite noisy. We are a family that loves to have fun so not so much the "Hallmark" family - but it really was as close to a Hallmark weekend that one can have. Many memories made last weekend. The host and hostess were most gracious and boy can they make a fabulous cake they surprised us with. They were so accomodating. Highly recommend it for any family get together or reunion.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

On August 15th, 10 of the "girls of '62" arrived at the barn house. What a wonderful place to gather. There is so much room..(6 bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths) The kitchen area with 2 stoves, a commercial type refrigerator and freezer make it so easy to put together meals if you so wish. The screened -in porch (with its great view) was our favorite gathering place..but there were many places for us to sit and chat. And the elevator was such a plus...we aren't young anymore, you know. The beautiful setting is almost spiritual...and the beauty of the structure itself just adds to the whole experience. And then there is Gerarda...what a wonderful hostess. She spent one evening just chatting with us..we so enjoyed her and so appreciated her warm and welcoming personality. She even sent over a warm and wonderful outmeal cake and ice cream our last night there. Thanks again, Gerarda..you may our stay so special. She will help you find near by attractions that you can enjoy, as well. I would recommend the barn house to one and all. You will love it. We all did. It was exactly as described...but more. Sherlock, the dog, was our official greeter. What fun !Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at the Barn to celebrate my mom & dad's 50th anniversary. It was the PERFECT place to stay. There were 18 of us - ages 6 - 71 and all of us loved it. We had plenty of place to hang out, talk, play, etc. The owner, Gerarda, was a great host who bent over backwards to make our stay comfortable and memorable. We would highly recommend this place. In fact, my family spent some time talking about when we could return.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.

We were in town for one night, and needed a place for family to gather. This was absolutely it! The whole home was gorgeous, clean and absolutely breathtaking. The evening spent on the deck watching shooting stars with family was worth every penny. Just wish we had more time to cook in the amazing kitchen, and kick back for a couple days. It has always been a dream to live in a barn some day, and this just made that dream all that more important. For now, I have the memory of the day, and absolutely look forward to a return trip. Tony and Gerada were fabulous hosts, and a pleasure to do business with. I would highly recommend a stay here!!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

Just returned from a stay at the Barn House by Mom and four adult daughters. Great location and great house for relaxing in comfortable, special environment. The Barn House was a wonderful place for our annual family four-day getaway, even more beautiful than the photographs! Gerarda is delightful and we followed through on many of her suggestions for places to eat, to our pleasure. We loved the small town atmosphere but Dubuque is so close, and we came home each day from our excursions past cows and corn crops. We delighted in each having our own bed and bath, enjoying both the open deck and the screened porch, and the openness of the kitchen/dining areas. Everyone of us expressed how pleasant this year's trip was - we highly recommend this property and the service of its owners.Recommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, families with young children, girls getaway.

We recently stayed at the Barn House for a family gathering. There were 5 families staying with a total of 20 people. The Barn House exceeded all of our expectations. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out, yet it always felt like we were together as a group. The entire house had everything we could have needed...from games, to movies, to extra blankets and pillows, to all the pots and pans we needed. It truly felt like home - we never even left the property during our stay. Tony and Geranda are wonderful host who are located close by. The one time we needed something, we just called them and they were able to help us out. Stay here for your next relaxing getaway and you will not be disappointed!Recommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
