My husband and I had booked several snowcoach tours at Mammoth but we wanted to stay in Gardiner. We are so happy we found the Cabin by the River. Warren certainly built it solidly for a winter stay. It was not drafty at all, heat was very quiet and the bathroom has a wonderful separate heater. The cabin is beautifully situated on the river but right behind Chris and Warren's house so you are not isolated and they are readily available if you need something. The ride into town takes about 10 minutes and you see wildlife along the way. I would love to stay there sometime in the warm weather in order to enjoy the beautiful porch and its swing!

The cabin is ideally located for access to the north entrance of Yellowstone park, just 15 minutes' drive away. It really is right on the river, and from the porch or your room you can hear only the sound of the water, and occasionally the chatter of rafters floating by. It was spotlessly clean, well stocked with everything we needed and more. It is thoughtfully decorated with lots of nice little touches, including a gas grill, prepped and ready to use. We especially enjoyed our porch visits from the two friendly dogs and the cat. We didn't care too much about internet access, but the few times we did need it, access was just fine, especially from the loft space upstairs. A heads-up to families: the only internal door is on the bathroom, and access to that is through the main bedroom downstairs, so the occupants of that room can't expect too much privacy. Because there are no doors, noise carries a bit too. The loft space is great, but our younger-but-almost-fully-grown son was a bit crowded, as the twin bed is tucked under the angle of the roof. A smaller child would be fine in that bed, and the queen bed has plenty of room. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would go again (but without our teenagers) and would happily recommend this place to others. Gardiner itself is a lovely little town: lots of dining options as well as several rafting trip organizers. Before going into Yellowstone park for the first time, be sure to visit the National Parks office near the entrance - the staff there are incredibly helpful. The cabin owners Chris and Warren were also very helpful with recommendations and answering questions.

The cabin was exactly what our family needed while we were here to see Yellowstone. Chris made sure we had everything to make our stay enjoyable. The beds were amazingly comfortable (especially after a long day of hiking and sightseeing), and the house was tidy and neat. I wish we could of stayed longer. The kids are talking about "next time" already! Thank you Chris!!!

We visited this cabin recently and found it way above our expectations. It is absolutely charming in a very quiet and relaxing setting. I just read the review of the last family that stayed here and was very surprised. I absolutely do not agree with them about the size of the cabin. It is quite spacious and will easily sleep a family of 6 or 7. It is remote, which is part of its charm, but because of that I didn't expect great cell phone service or really fast wifi. In fact, I think it is extremely generous that the hosts provide wifi. It is a vacation after all. It is right on the river and very secluded. Two things that are hard to come by these days and may be under valued by some people. A wonderful cabin in a wonderful location with wonderful hosts. We have spent almost 40 summers in and around Yellowstone and this is our favorite place to stay anywhere around the park at any price. We have highly recommended it to our friends and other family members. Thank you Chris and Warren!!

This cabin was great. We hated to leave. It was perfect for the 2 of us. The sound of the river, the peace and quiet, cozy and charming, I could just go on and on. I would tell anyone visiting Yellowstone, this is the place to stay. After a day of being in the park and hiking the trails, it is wonderful to return here and have a glass of wine on the front porch and listen to the river and the birds. If you stay in one of the park hotels you will be surrounded by people at the end of the day, but here just nature. And maybe the owners cute little dog who visited us the two nights we cooked dinner and sat on the porch.

Wonderful, secluded cabin on the river that was quiet, peaceful and a great place to relax after some long days in Yellowstone. Owners were on-site and helpful and kind. River is awesome, close and gurgling outside the window. Most everything was as promised, but there are two things you should know that are not clear. 1. This cabin in TINY. Not 2-bedrooms, as advertised, only one plus a tiny loft. So small that our family of 5 was tripping over our luggage and storing everything on the porch. The TV sits on top of the fridge. If you use the "sleeps 5-7" as a gauge, you will be very surprised at how small it actually is. Perfect for a couple, maybe with a kid, but with a family, bringing groceries to cook dinners, etc, it was cramped. 2. The cabin has no cell coverage, wifi to the house was weak and even when wifi was connected, it was so unreliable that we could not maintain a VPN connection. If you want to get away, great, but if you need to maintain contact with work this place will not be a good fit .. neither my ATT or my wife's Verizon phones had any service. Better informed renters are happier renters. Great place, we just felt like we did not get what was advertised.

                        Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

Owner response: We have been providing lodging for guests for 18 years. It has been our first priority to offer a comfortable, convenient, and authentic “cabin” experience for all of our renters. While providing current “asked for services”, i.e., telephone, wifi, and satellite TV, we are still in a rustic, country, mountain setting. Until now we have never had a negative review. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience because of the wifi problem. We had not previously had any problem with it and we tried to correct it as soon as possible. But being an hour away from a technician, repairs do sometimes take time and are not always easily resolved. We did offer this guest a comfortable private place in our home to use the internet until the issue was resolved. Cell coverage does fluctuate some in our area including most of Yellowstone Park depending on equipment and provider, but we do provide a land line. We make every effort to represent our property accurately on the listing and regret that this person found the cabin to be smaller than indicated. There are 16 pictures on the listing as well as a detailed description attempting to give potential visitors an accurate view of our cabin. Our guests have always been very satisfied and happy with its size, location and amenities. We have a number of returning guests who always give us positive feedback. We appreciate this review and the opportunity to respond to it and all reviews. We hope the balance of their vacation was pleasant.

Our family of four stayed at the Cabin by the river for a week. The warmth, beauty, serenity and coziness made it a dream holiday. The greenery all around and the gently flowing Yellowstone river was soothing to the nerves. The cabin was clean, tastefully decorated and well stocked with all essentials that made our stay very comfortable. We thank the owners for making it a wonderful holiday for us and we hope to visit it again someday.

Our family of 20 (10 adults and 10 GRAND-kids) stayed here for 6 days for a family reunion. It was a wonderful place! Lovely accommodations, awesome views of the mountains from inside and the deck, everything you need in the kitchens, neat bathrooms and bedrooms, awesome quiet dishwasher which was used alot! We liked everything about it...the kids loved the swing set/toys. We ate inside and out. We thought the distance to Yellowstone Natl. Park was ok. Chris was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place! We did whitewater rafting, horseback riding, and the typical park sights. Lots of hanging out at the cabin in evenings. Thankful to God for no bear encounters!

Our family of 10 (4 adults and 6 children ranging in age from 7yrs to 17yrs) had a fabulous time in Gardiner! Chris and Warren are kind and make guests feel welcome the minute they arrive. The house is complete with everything a traveler needs. They have taken great care to provide guests with all the essentials...and much more. The large yard and swingset provided a fantastic place for the younger children to enjoy the cool mornings and evenings. The home is minutes from the North Gate of Yellowstone and close to several White Water Rafting establishments. Hiking trails are abundant and close by as well. Residents of Gardiner are so friendly and welcoming. Everyone was so helpful and quick to answer any questions. We definitely recommend this location to those visiting the Yellowstone area. Thank you Chris and Warren.

                      Owner info

                      Year Purchased: 1995

About the owner: I am a Montana native, 2nd generation, and Warren has lived in Montana most of his life having grown up in Northern California. We have 3 grown children and 8 grandchildren, all living in the area. Warren works for the National Park Service and I manage the cabin. We love living in the mountains but also love to travel. We have been providing lodging for visitors for almost 17 years and have loved meeting wonderful people and sharing our corner of the world. We have 1 horse, 1 mule, 1 dog and 2 cats who also enjoy our guests.

                      Why the Owner Chose Gardiner:
We built our 'Cabin By The River' in 1995. For 10 years we operated it as a bed and breakfast.. We are located in a small valley of the upper Yellowstone River. We have about 4+ acres on the Yellowstone River. Our home and the cabin are on this acreage.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We love being close to the river and hearing it flow by at night. We are in a country setting with neighbors yet private. Guests enjoy fishing right here and having a fire in the fire ring by the river. The mountain views all around are spectacular.
